Daar word tans onderhandel vir die vervoer van die klip en om die nodige toerusting se huur. Die sakekamer benodig fondse om die ander materiale soos teer aan te koop en 'n kontrakteur aan te stel vir die werk. Die projek sal deur 'n kundige ingenieur wat lid is van die sakekamer en tegniese komitee, bestuur word en kwaliteitbeheer sal uitgeoefen word.Die sakekamer beoog om per brief aan elke besigheid en deur die media versoeke te rig aan plaaslike besighede om tot hierdie projek by te dra. Dr. Marietjie Malanga van die Longtom Dierekliniek het verlede week haar kennis van perde en donkies gedeel tydens n besoek van die Lydenburg Dienssentrum van Bejaardes. Sy het ges perde is haar passie en grootste liefde vandat sy n jong dogter was. Dit was duidelik dat die perde en donkie wat sy aan ons voorgestel het baie rus t ig en gehoorsaam is in haar teenwoordigheid. Anoniem van Lydenburg skryf: Ek is so 2 weke terug afgetrek deur ons stadsraad se verkeersbeamptes. Hulle het op die hoek van Kerkstraat en Kantoorstraat gestaan. Die een beampte het my afgetrek (manlik), terwyl , die ander 3 (vroulik) net teen die kar leun en op hul selfone speel. Ek het aangeneem dis maar net 'n roetine ondersoek, siende dat ek niks verkeerd gedoen het nie.Hy het my lisensie skyfie gevra, en aan my safety belt gepluk. Hy het ook 'n sarkastiese aanmerking gemaak omdat ek te lank geneem

het, na sy sin, om die lisensie vir hom aan te gee. Daarna het hy om die kar geloop en na die lisensie skyf op die venster gekyk. Toe hy terugkom en niks fout kon vind nie, het hy vier keer aangedring op my selffoonnommer. Ek het geweier om dit vir hom te gee. Hy het hom vererg, en toe gese hy gaan vir my 'n boete skryf, want ek het volgens hom nie gestop by die stop- straat nie. Die voertuig wat ek ry (Uno) kan jy nie in eerste rat sit tensy jy dood stop nie. So jy moet stop. Nadat hy die kaartjie geskryf het (met foute op) het hy dit in die venster ingegooi en ges ek moet ry. Die boete was R750.Ek is vanoggend aanklaer toe (by die hof) oor die boete. Het die hele storie vir die vrou agter die toonbank vertel, toe stuur sy my na aanklaer "Pierie" (nie seker oor spelling). Terwyl ek vir hom vertel wat gebeur het, sit en kyk hy by die venster uit (ongeskik as jy my vra). Ek het hom ook uitgenooi om die Uno te ry as hy my nie glo oor die rat verhouding nie. Na als, s hy net dat hy niks vir my kan doen nie, hy kan net die bedrag afbring na R350 toe. Anders moet ek maar hof toe gaan op die datum en maar daar my storie vertel. En die be-ampte gaan in elk geval als wat ek s ontken en lieg, en my dan eers begin target. So dis maar... of ek betaal of dis my probleem...kan jy glo? So ek het maar betaal...

ALMER is a siding / station on the railroad from Belfast and Dullstroom. Near to the turn-off to Palmer off the R540, the road to PDullstroom that runs parallel to the railway, there is a tall red brick

smokestack.On closer inspection, situated, next to quite an extensive siding, one finds a derelict industrial site complete with the remains of a large kiln or furnace and derelict warehouse structures. I was once told that Palmer siding used to be the site of a large porcelain factory. Though a dump is nowhere to be found, the overgrown yard is covered in a white shale crust resembling dried porcelain clay or powder.Not in any publication on the region or its history, nor on the Internet could I find any information under the names of Palmer or porcelain. (Neither: crockery / china / continental china etc). In my archive I have the copy of a the hand-written memoirs of Ollie Mar, a colourful shopkeeper and later tour operator of Nelspruit. He was raised on a settlement or farm near Palmer, Groenvlei. During the '20s, Mar's father worked here at / in a cooldrink factory. This, together with the activities at Palmer, indicated that this Highveld region north of Belfast once must have been some industrious hub - most probably due to the nearby railroad. THE platinum mining groups are strategically better placed to cope with the overall negative effects of the current strike than members of the Associat ion of Mineworkers and Construction Union (Amcu).That was the underlying theme from Lonmin CEO Ben Magara when he told financial media in Johannesburg on Thursday that Lonmin in particular was in a "competitive" position to recover swiftly when the strike ended.That assessment was based on the group's strong financial position Lonmin had $200m in cash on its balance sheet at end-September and its successful track record in rebuilding production after the mayhem at Marikana in 2012.Mr Magara said: "The (platinum) ounces are still in the ground. We will still mine it. We know the strike will end and we know our business will come back. There will come a tipping point where I believe Amcu will come and sign our offer. We have a history and knowledge of how to bring back our business and we believe the biggest value will be in how we do that."Mr Magara said the strike now going into its 11th week had so far cost the country's three main

PROTECT yourself when driving at night by switching on your headlights, make sure theyre maintained and cleaned, and be extra vigilant on the road. Driving at night in the US accounts for only 23% of all vehicle distance travelled, but sees more than 50% of all road deaths for people aged 18 and older. What about South Africa, at night?Winter is on its way and many SA drivers will leave and return to their homes in darkness on our countrys already dangerous roads. Les McMaster, chairman of the South African Motor Industry Workshop Association (MIWA) believes that, though stats for South African roads are not readily available, our death toll is similar, perhaps even worse."At dusk and dawn," he said, "drivers lose the advantage of the colour and contrast available in full daylight. There are, he said, a number of ways to protect yourself while night-driving:Let your eyes adjust - The human eye naturally adjusts to darkness but can take as long as 30 minutes to adjust. During that period reduce speed. MasterDrive's Eugene Herbert agrees: "Regardless of how effective your headlights are they do not adequately light sections of the road on either side of the vehicle.Recovery depends on age - Herbert says drivers should be wary of glare and recovery time. While most drivers eyes recover from glare in three to five seconds, recovery times of seven seconds or longer are not uncommon. It depends on age. McMaster advises: "It may be useful to talk to your optomotrist about anti-glare glasses that can help you see better at night." Reduce speed Its advisable to reduce speed when visibility is poor. Reaction time is typically 1.5 seconds, so if a car ahead stops unexpectedly that's how long it will take to hit the brake pedal, let alone actually stop. Reducing speed is one of the best ways to avoid a head-on collision, especially at night when visibility is reduced.Take a break - Exhaustion severely affects reaction time so take a break every hour or so and dont drive if youre tired.Avoid distractions - Pay attention to all driving safety laws: don't use a cellphone. Passengers should avoid pointing at things outside of the car or socialising in a way that requires your visual attention.Safety checks before you leave - Before driving in the dark make sure your front and rear lights and all turn indicators are working properly. Die bussie ry op hoprofiel 15 duim kommersile bande en hanteer ons slegte paaie vol slaggate met gemak en sonder ratels. Dit voel baie stewig. As jy hom looi, hoor jy die enjin, maar hy is lekker wakker. Die draaisirkel is kort en die bussie hanteer werklik goed, selfs teen ho snelheid.Ek voorsien dat ons die bussie gaan leer ken op ons paaie. Dit sal ook n uitstekende voertuig wees vir skole en sentrums. Die gehalte is goed, die waarborg en naverkope diens beloof om goed te wees, dit ry lekker en die prys (R 306 900) is baie goed. THE third-generation Mini, launched in South Africa this week, is significantly bigger (98mm longer, 44mm wider and 7mm higher) than its predecessor. But it's still very much a Mini, with the classic windows-all-round glasshouse, and emphatic waist and rooflines tapering slightly towards each other. And it still drives like a Mini, with accurate, very direct, kart-like steering, firm, slightly choppy suspension and burr-on-a-blanket road-holding. But the rest of it is almost all new. The styling - particularly the front treatment - has evolved further down the road imposed on it by Euro NCAP protocols for pedestrian safety, extending forward and down to scoop unwary jaywalkers out of the way with minimum injury, and signature design cues such as the headlights, upright grille, round headlights and tucked-up little booty have been softened almost beyond recognition. The fascia has been revised, finishing the job that was begun with the previous Cooper S; the speedometer is now part of a compact, very neat analogue instrument pod on the steering column. The round dial in the middle of the dash is still there but now it's an infotainment portal displaying, on request, anything from satellite navigation to reverse camera to traffic information to the name of the song currently on your favourite station. The switches for the electric windows have moved from the centre console to the door panels and the headlight switch has been moved from the indicator stalk to way down by your right knee. There's still a row of classic tumbler switches across the bottom of the centre stack but now the middle one is a keyless start. As long as the transponder fob is inside the car. The naturally aspirated 1.6-litre four of the previous Mini Cooper gives way to a 1.5-litre direct-injection turbopetrol three, boasting BMW's signature Valvetronic induction, controlling engine speed by varying both the lift and duration of inlet-valve opening. The triple is rated at 100kW from 4500-6000 revs and 220Nm at 1250rpm (230 on overboost); it makes all the right noises - a pleasant muted growl at low revs, rising to a typically musical three-cylinder wail at peak - but produces very little real urge below 2500rpm. It also suffers noticeably from turbo lag, almost always stumbling over gear-shifts unless it's revving hard, and taking enough time to spool up that overtaking manoeuvres - unless very comprehensively planned - can become a little scary. The Cooper is pretty quick, hitting 100km/h off the line in less than eight seconds and topping out at 210 - but only if you keep the mode switch in 'Sport' and leave your mechanical empathy at home. It does everything you ask of it without complaint but seems to lack that eagerness to 'get naughty' that is central to the cheeky Mini persona. All of which is not helped by a clutch that takes very firmly, just off the floormat, and a six-speed gearbox that manages to be both imprecise and notchy at the same time. Smooth shifts require a certain deliberate finesse; drive the new Cooper like a boy racer and you won't impress your passengers - you'll just make them seasick. The two-litre Cooper S, by contrast, pulls at the leash almost from idle, picks up revs like a cobra striking and seems to answer every request made of it almost before you finish asking. The new 1998cc turbopetrol four kicks out 141kW from 4700-6000 revs and 280Nm at 1250rpm. And it does the business; according to BMW it's good for 0-100 in 6.8 seconds and 235 flat out, and we have no reason to doubt those numbers. But it's the way it does it that make the new Mini Cooper S so much fun; the engine has an unholy appetite for revs, and a precisely-modulated response to the loud pedal that make feeding in the power around a long sweeper an intensely physical, seat-of-the-pants pleasure, and a slightly rough-edged induction roar above 4000rpm to remind you that, leather trim and fancy electronics notwithstanding, this is not an entirely civilised car. John Cooper's original idea was to build cheeky little race cars that would annoy the hell out of the drivers of expensive sports machines, and some of Mr Cooper's DNA is still perceptible in his latest namesake. There's just enough torque steer under hard acceleration to keep you concentrating on what you're doing and, when you change down in Sport mode, it blips the throttle - hard! - which not only makes you sound (and feel) like Stirling Moss on the Targa Florio, but also helps ensure ultra-slick downshifts under hard braking. The clutch on the Cooper S is no more forgiving than that of its three-pot sibling, but on this car it's action is firm and distinctly notchy, but light and precise with a pleasant 'snick' that tells your fingertips exactly when it goes into gear. SAD news out of Australia last week was that the three-times Formula One World Champion, and the most successful Australian GP driver in history, Sir Jack Brabham, has died at age 88 at his home. Brabham is most famous for winning the World Drivers Championship in 1959, 1960 and finally in his own Brabham in 1966.Brabham began his working life as a mechanic with the RAAF, serving in World War II before starting his own engineering firm. His motorsport exploits began when he started dirt oval racing, but he soon moved to circuit racing in 1954 in Europe in a rear-engined Cooper. His first GP victory came in 1959 at Monaco before winning the British GP and claiming his maiden World Drivers Championship that same year.Brabham won the Formula One World Championship again in 1960 at the wheel of a Cooper before parting ways with the company and turning his attention to building his own Grand Prix race car. A technology shift had begun to monocoque racing car designs but Brabham and his Australian race engineer decided to stick with the older but proven space-frame design.The Brabham proved competitive in 1964 and won the French Grand Prix, marking a historic first victory for Brabhams team. Until finally, a Repco-powered (essentially an old Oldsmobile power plant) BT19 Brabham race car took Sir Jack Brabham to victory in the 1966 Formula One season. Die 4x4 gesinsdag is slegs een van die projekte wat jaarliks aangebied word.Graag wil hulle alle 4x4 entoesiaste, asook die publiek, nooi om deel te kom wees van die wel bekende dag is. Dit vind plaas op 26 Julie 2014 by PLM boerderye, 10km buite Burgersfort, op die Lydenburg-R37 pad. Die hele gemeenskap, wat besighede en mynbedrywe insluit is betrokke by hierdie dag om dit so lekker as moontlik vir die hele familie te maak. Hierdie 4X4 dag groei elke jaar geweldig baie. In 2013 het 120 4X4 voertuie deelgeneem en ongeveer 7 000 tot 10 000 besoekers het die dag saam met ons geniet.Die baan is baie uitdagend en interesant, dit is egter nie so opgestel om normale viertrek voertuie te beskadig nie. Die roete is uiteengesit sodat hele gesin kan deelneem aan pret uitdagings soos lemoene gooi, windbuks skiet en ander 4x4 verwante uitdagings. Daar is groot pryse te wen deur almal!Na die sukses van Die Wildevy MTB bergfiets wedren in 2013 gaan ons groter en beter! Ons bied 'n 70km, 35km, 10km en 2km pret trap vir kinders onder 12 jaar aan. Groot name in fietsry soos Ben-Melt Swanepoel het aan die wedren deelgeneem daar word verwag dat hy weer gaan ry en ook ander bekende gesigte in fiets ry kringe gaan saam bring. Daar is ook weer die jaar uitstallers wat bydra tot die kleurvolle dag.Vir die jongspan is daar ook baie pret beplan soos springkastelle en skyf skiet waar 'n pragtige pryse gewen kan word.Vir die mense wat nie deelneem aan die uitdagings nie, is daar 'n trekker en sleepwa om hulle tussen punte te vervoer om sodoende niks van die aksie mis te loop nie. Hierdie is 'n gratis diens aan die publiek. Daar sal ook kampgeriewe beskikbaar wees vir die mense wat van ver af kom kuier.Inskrywingsgelde vir die dag is R900.00 per voertuig wat deelneem. Dit sluit ook 'n spesiale hemp vir die bestuurder en sy assistent bestuurder in. Die tradisionele show stopper, vind plaas in die middag. Dis nou waar 'n paar uitsoek voetuie hul passies deur die modderbad sal neem. Hierdie is 'n moet en sorg elke jaar vir hope pret. Moet dit nie misloop nie!Dit spyt ons egter dat geen 4x4 motorfietse toegelaat sal word op die

baan en op die plaas nie. Geen koel houers word op die terrein toegelaat nie, 'n kroeg met baie billike pryse is beskikbaar. Entheos Christian School Netball girls shine: Netball team attended the SCSSA (South African Christian School Sport Association) Regional Netball Tournament in Secunda on 17th May 2014. They received a Silver Medal for overall Second place out of the 8 schools participating. The team received excellent reviews and a special mention was made of Sihle Maseko (Goal Attack) as being a brilliant player. Coach Annatjie Rademeyer and assistant coach Annalie Oosthuizens hard work and dedication to the team was rewarded with an excellent day of Netball. Well done to all of the players!
