ApplicationsDie grinding and engraving with mountedpoints. Deburring of castings and generalfiling with rotary burrs in ferrous and nonferrous materials.

The toolsThe high-speed model LSF 07 is ideal formany precision die-making applications.The high speed makes it perfect for work in different material and the well-balancedgrip makes it easy to control in detailedwork.

The 17-series is ideal for die grindingand engraving and the more powerful 27-series for deburring of e.g. castings. LSF17 and LSF 27 die grinders have a uniquevibration damping design in both short andextended tools. This cuts burr consumptionby at least 20% and prevents vibrationsfrom being transferred to the operator´shand. The speed governor enables highperformance with low tool weight. Asilencer keep sound level below 75 dB(A)on LSF 17 and below 78 dB(A) on LSF 27.

Rpm selectionThe speed depends on the diameter of theburr head, the material to be ground andthe material in the rotary burr. For example,∅ 3, 6 and 12 mm head diameter of rotaryburr, recommended rpm for work invarious types of material is:

TC: Tungsten carbide tipped rotary burr.HSS: High speed steel burrs. Use a fine cut burr for hard and/ortough materials and a coarse cut burr for stainless steel, softmaterials or light alloy.

For mounted points, follow the recommendation applicable to theparticular mounted point.

The high speed LSF 07 should be used with tungsten carbide burronly or with mounted points having the corresponding max rpm.LSF 07 can be used with max 4 mm burr head.

Shaft diameterLSF 07 has a 3 mm collet as standard. A 1/8" collet is available as optionalequipment. The most common shaftdiameter of the burr is 6 mm. The LSF is therefore delivered with a 6 mm collet(some versions are available with a1/4"collet). Other dimensions are availableas an optional accessory. When the burrhead diameter is 12 mm or more, it is recommended to choose a shaft diameter of 8 mm. Rotary burrs for LSF 07 has ∅ 3 mm shaft.

ApplicationsDry sanding and surface preparation,

such as removing handling marks andsmoothing down welds on car bodies andother sheet metal objects.

Rust and paint removal with fiber discs onsheet metal objects. Sanding and smooth-ing down the surface on wood, metal andnon-ferrous objects and on glass fiber re-inforced plastic.

Polishing, grindline removing, reducingsurface roughness. The lubrication freemodels leave no oil mist in the exhaust airor on the sanded surface. They are there-fore very suitable for high quality surfacepreparation in connection with paintingoperations, etc.

Rpm selectionFollow the recommendations given by themanufacturer of the abrasive which isused in each application. The recommen-ded working speed is usually between 50 – 75% of the maximum permissiblespeed of the abrasive. The following ex-ample is given for fiber discs, diameter180 mm, by one manufacturer of abra-sives:

Heavy deburring, trimmingand internal grinding.

ApplicationsHeavy deburring, light trimming ofwelds, hollow grinding and internal

cleaning of castings, repair grinding ofmaterial cracks prior to welding, bevel-

ling, weld root cleaning, where the objectputs a limit to the size of tool from anaccess point of view or where the mate-rial penetration should be confined.

The toolsAngle grinders are used with depressedcentre wheels and cutting discs, 80-125mm (3-5") diameter. For best control, use the support handle for a two-handgrip. For best access and reach, use thetool without the support handle using one-hand operation.

Straight grinders are used with coneand plug wheels for internal grindingoperation. They are permitted to be usedwithout any wheel guard to admit accessand because the object being ground actsas a guard.

Mounted points, tungsten carbideburrs and the smaller mounted points areused with the most powerful die grindersalso without wheel guard. The rigidversion of LSF 37 is well suited formounted points.

Rpm selectionThe size of tool for wheels, cone wheelsand plugs is selected according to thesize of wheel suitable for the job. Thisalso decides the rotational speed for thegrinder. The selection of tool speed fordie grinders depends on the burr headdiameter and the material to be ground.For example, ∅12 mm head diameter ofrotary burr, recommended rpm for workin various types of material is:

ApplicationsGeneral adjustment grinding, weld prepa-

rations and grinding with depressed centrewheels. Light cleaning of castings withstraight sided wheels.

Coarse grit fibre discs give a bettersurface finish than bonded abrasives. They are therefore used when a smoothersurface is required in weld grinding, re-moval of casting scale and sand, roughcleaning and grinding in soft materials.

The toolsGTG 21 is the most compact, powerful and efficient tool of its type on the market.This third generation turbine tool providesimmense power and remains rpm underheaviest loads. GTG 21 offers an extremelyhigh removal rate even if it only weighs 2 kg and pays for itself fast by raisingindividual productivity.

Atlas Copco large pistol-grip drills aresuitable for most drilling tasks in virtuallyevery sector of industry.

LBB 45 is a two-hand pistol grip drillfor larger bit diameters. LBB 45 keepsconstant speed at varying feed forcesthanks to the speed governor. The feedforce can be further increased with the aid of a breast plate or feed screw, whichare available as optional accessories.

Screw feed drills

ApplicationsTorque control impact wrenches are

primarily used in serial production to

reduce the risk of operator misjudgement

influencing the quality of the assembled

joint compared to the conventional impact

wrench. Apart from a consistent joint

quality this provides for a better operator

confidence. In practice this also offers the

possibility to speed up production by

allowing the use of a more powerful tool

without risking bolt breakage.

The toolsThe LTS torque control tools are based

on the LMS series of conventional impact

wrenches. Above all this means the most

compact torque control tools on the market.

Most wearing parts are also common in

both series which simplifies service and

spare parts stocking.

Specific LTS features are:

ApplicationsScrewdriver is the term commonly usedfor assembly tools in the screw size up to approx. M6 screw dimension. Directdrive screwdrivers run until the motorstalls. Torque adjustment can be made by adjusting the supply air pressure. This model is used for self-drillingscrews, thread-forming screws and woodscrews, especially where ratcheting mustbe avoided. Slip clutch screwdrivers aresuitable for general purpose assemblyjobs. The applied torque is limited by anadjustable clutch. The ratcheting actionmakes slip clutch screwdrivers the mostsuitable tools where tightening charac-teristics vary, e.g. for sheet metal screwsand wood screws.

ApplicationsThe introduction of hydraulic impulse nut-runners meant a revolution in tightening of bolted joints, offering increased produc-tivity, improved quality control and betterworking environment. Today impulse nut-runners are selected in general assemblyoperations as well as in line productionespecially where torque accuracy, noise,vibration and service life requirements arehigher than that of the conventional impactwrenches.

In impulse nutrunners the torque istransmitted by a series of pulses in ahydraulic system with almost no reactionforce to the operator. The smooth pulsesgenerate a low noise level and a minimumof vibration. The force of the pulse can bedetermined by regulating an artificialleakage in the hydraulic circuit, whichgives possibilities for most accurateadjustment of the tightening torque of thetool.

The ErgoPulse toolsThe Atlas Copco ErgoPulse non shut-offnutrunners incorporate the latest technicaladvances, e.g. two chamber motors, twoand three-blade pulse mechanisms. Thisoffers a number of advantages. • High speed, high capacity for fast

operation.

Selection guideThe size of tool is determined on the basisof torque and/or bolt dimension. Torqueshould preferably be checked with a handtorque wrench. Electronic monitoring withan in-line transducer is possible but shouldbe verified with a manual hand torquewrench to avoid measuring errors due tothe extremely short pulse sequence.

ApplicationsThe shut-off impulse nutrunner auto-matically stops at a predeterminedtightening torque. Apart from the accu-racy aspects this has the advantage, thatthe tightening can continue at full pulsepower until shut-off takes place, thusshortening the tightening time. The shut-off also contributes toward shorteningthe operation cycle in that it eliminatesidle pulsing.

The ErgoPulse shut-off toolsThe Atlas Copco ErgoPulse PT, PTS andPTX shut-off impulse nutrunner rangefeatures an inertia mass system –unmatched by timers and the pressuresensing systems when it comes tomaintaining an equal tightening torqueon hard and soft joints. The tools alsoincorporate a TRIM valve at the airoutlet that makes it possible to avoidshut-off after the first pulse on very hard joints. This function is even moreadvanced in the AutoTrim models. Herethe machine increases speed to fullpower after the first pulse. No other toolon the market offers you the combinedadvantages of the ErgoPulse.

ApplicationsModern angle nutrunners have beendeveloped primarily to meet the moststringent demands for quality assurancein tightening of safety joints in the auto-motive industry. However, the accuracydemands are becoming increasinglyfocused upon in other industries as well,not only from a safety point of view, butfrom the general aspect of product relia-bility, where a faulty joint might causehigh secondary costs due to guaranteeclaims and loss of goodwill. Angle nut-runners are also used for ergonomicreasons, i.e. low noise and vibrations, and for access in cramped quarters.

The toolsAtlas Copco LTV angle nutrunners areequipped with a unique quick acting shut-off clutch. Together with the powerfulmotor this is the key to high accuracy and aminimum of reaction torque to the operator.Combined with ergonomic and compactdesign and long service life they feature:

ApplicationsThe Tensor S range with its Power Focus3000 controllers is designed for safety-critical applications that demand a partic-ularly high level of accuracy. The systemhas capabilities for error proofing andoperator guidance, traceability, andcommunication with other Power Focuscontrollers or adjacent systems.

The System The Tensor S system consists of a tool,cable and controller. Atlas Copco alsooffers different software packages, bothfor configuration and analysis, as well as for process improvements.

Tool

Superior ergonomics, fast drive speedsand high cycle rates combine to makeTensor S the tool of choice, whereproductivity is a priority. The built-intransducer ensures that the torqueapplied is traceable against a calibrateddevice, in compliance with ISO 9000.

Controller

ACTA 3000The ACTA 3000 system plus a trans-ducer and a test joint makes it possibleto control and calibrate tools accordingto ISO and QS 9000. This can be donefor any direct driven tool, pulse tool orclick wrench. In synchronisation with acontroller, the system automaticallycalculates the new calibration value andupdates the controller by cable or IR.

The ACTA system is today usedwithin a wide variety of industries suchas white goods, electronics, aerospace,automotive, air-conditioning,construction, etc.

The systemThe ACTA 3000 measures torque, angle,pulses and speed. It comes in threedifferent versions:• Basic measures torque, angle, pulses

and speed.

• Quality Control (QC) calculates and

prints important tool and process

control data (SPC). The database can

store up to 10,000 tools/joints.

• Advanced Analysis (AA) can do all of

the above plus display graphs for joint

analysis.

The ACTA 3000 can be used togetherwith the PC program ToolsTalk ACTA.This allows you to have calibration data,service history and control statistics foreach tool stored in the database.

ToolsTalk ACTA automaticallyreminds you when to calibrate and whenyou need to do service on each tool inthe plant.

In addition, the ACTA 3000 togetherwith the MRTT torque wrenches mea-sures the static installed torque inde-pendently of operator. This is often donewhen controlling joints directly in theassembly area.

MIDI is a 1/2" BSP air preparation unit and issuitable for air flows up to 35 l/s, MAXI is a1" system suitable up to 70 l/s.The systems consist of:

These three couplings will give a minimumof pressure drop. They are full flow couplingswhich means that they have no restrictionsinside. They are also built for rough appli-cations, made of hardened steel and are lubri-cated with silicone-free grease, which isimportant when spray painting.

The traditional RIL balancers have a metalhousing to withstand rough treatment. The COL balancers provide weightlesssuspension and have a plastic housing. The wire length for RIL is 1.5 m and for COL 1.7 m.
