SAP... Seagate unveils NAS offeringsannouncement concerns the pricing of SAP enterprise support – the solution was introduced in 2008 with 22 percent service charges built into the price. The prices were frozen till 2016 initially – the commitment has been extended to 2020 for existing contracts for enterprise support. For new purchases, the prices that are inclusive of service charges will be fixed till 2025,” he added.

With increased lifecycle support on mainstream maintenance and a price commitment on other enterprise support services, SAP intends to let its customers bring stability to their businesses and ready their business for cloud that will set the trend for Middle East over the next few years.

Seagate marked its GITEX debut by unveiling a new portfolio of Networked Attached Storage (NAS) solutions that can be set up

and managed without dedicated IT staff.

The new portfolio includes five products, and is the biggest product launch the company has ever mounted in the business NAS space.

The Seagate NAS and Seagate NAS Pro lines are introducing a new operating system, NAS OS 4, together with hardware specifically designed for small businesses. The latest products come in a range of storage capacities from 2TB to 30TB.

Lance Ohara, Senior Director, Product Line Management, Retail, Seagate, is keen to push the products to the Middle East market. “In the EMEA region we are seeing huge pockets of

growth,” he says. “In most of Western Europe the markets are already established, but the Middle East presents a great opportunity. Our NAS offerings are perfect for Middle Eastern SMEs looking for a seamless way to manage their storage.”

Building on the success of its operating system, Seagate has debuted the next generation with NAS OS 4. Now with a redesigned Device Manager, users can manage preferences and configure settings from a single location.

It also includes App Manager and Seagate Sdrive for remote access.

Each NAS is populated with Seagate’s NAS HDD drives in capacities up to 5TB.

“Our primary focus is to invite end user customers to experience our product live at GITEX. We have had a joint stand with CPI Media for over the last four years. GITEX provides us a great platform, because in the course of five days we print about 100,000 A4 coloured pages live at the show and gives us a chance to evaluate the market reception, which has been really positive. We have been a part of this event for over ten years. GITEX has professionalised more over the course of the years.”Dr. Sassan Dieter Khatib-Sahidi, CEO and Executive Director, Board of Directors, German Imaging Technologies

Q&A: Peter George, President, General Dynamics Fidelis

What does your company hope to achieve at the end of Gitex? The Middle East region is a growing market with huge potential for IT security. There are many countries with emerging economies that will keep the growth moving forward for some time. Also, more mature economies like UAE and KSA have huge demand for new technologies and services. Overall, we see a great potential in this region; however, at the same time the market is highly competitive.

Why was it important for you to be at GITEX 2014?The Middle East is a key market for General Dynamics Fidelis as it provides opportunities with significant potential

investments for companies to protect from Advanced Persistent Threat (APT) and ZERO-day attacks. Fidelis XPS provides customers in the Middle East with technology to detect malware, viruses, and zero-day attacks though emulation and sandboxing. Fidelis XPS enables our customers to decode DNS abuse for data breach over DNS, VPN over DNS, and to decode any protocol over any port including unknown proprietary protocols and SSL/TLS encrypted sessions.

What channel specific initiatives did you outline during GITEX?General Dynamics Fidelis offers Advanced Threat Defense solutions suitable for several segments and

verticals. We have partnered with Value Added Resellers (VARs), and Certified Value Added Distributors (CVADs), so they are able to serve major geographies in the region. We are 100% channel-oriented in this region and our channel partners are our greatest asset. Our business strategy is concentrated around strengthening our channel partner network and expanding our product portfolio so it can deliver better margins to our partners. We intend to invest heavily in resources that can create a healthy channel network in this region; for example, a few months ago, we launched our new partner portal that includes incentives for our channel partners, which will provide many benefits to them.

What is the outlook like for the Middle East IT industry and will products and technologies unveiled during GITEX spur growth in the fourth quarter this year? Our main focus remains on strengthening the channel, expanding, and enhancing our product portfolio that will deliver better margins for our partners. We plan to invest in awareness and visibility for our brand through marketing campaigns, participating in major events like GITEX. In addition, our business plan aims to help our vendor partners expand their reach across the region. Geographic expansion is also part of our business strategy this year.

ZTE is showcasing a full range of innovative ICT solutions in the smart city and smart traffic markets, further emphasising ZTE’s expansion in the government and enterprise markets in the Middle East and Africa.

ZTE launched the U-World brand exclusively in the Middle East and Africa to provide a set of solutions for different industries tailored for MEA markets, including U-Safety for public safety, U-Highway for national broadband networks, U-Government for digital government, U-Power for smart grids, U-Oil & Gas for digital oil and gas, i-Rail of U-Transportation for rail transport, U-DTV, and e-Education. They facilitate

the development of enterprise businesses, improve the efficiency of governments, create a safe society, and greatly contribute to the economy and people’s livelihoods in these regions.

ZTE has helped the Kenyan government achieve an information-based public service, and assisted Ethiopia, Egypt, Mozambique and Nigeria in bui lding information-based education systems, and made further contributions to the education sector in Afr ica. ZTE has also contributed to the development of the communit ies it works in, donating funds to bui ld primary schools and orphanages in Kenya and Ethiopia, and

establishing ICT training centres in South Afr ica, Egypt, Algeria and Ethiopia.

“ZTE is very optimistic about the market potential for government and enterprise networks in the MEA region,” commented Huang Dabin, senior vice president of ZTE. “With the principle of satisfying demands based on local conditions, ZTE will continue to provide flexible, personalised and tailored services through its state-of-the-art wireless communications technologies and comprehensive ICT service solutions, to accelerate the development in the Middle East and Africa, promote local communications and economies, and improve people’s livelihoods throughout the region.”

connecting people and their devices, and the next few years will be about connecting things. Automation and orchestration will be key.”

Dabboussi says, “We believe in the value of GITEX, having the community come here together for one week, which includes many decision makers and technology and government leadership and also customers. As they all are available at one place, it is an opportunity to reconnect and forge new relationships. It gives us a chance to reconvene as a community once a year and agree what are the next steps to create more value out of those relationships.”

Cisco has made a number of announcements this week which showcases how daily lives can be transformed through solutions in IoT.
