What is a Good Form Running Clinic?
A Snail’s Pace GFR clinic gives an introduction to the fundamental points of the GFR program: The aim is to keep it simple; the goal is to get you running efficiently, easier, without injury, and likely faster. Our belief is that running is a SKILL to be learned, and practicing these points can make all the difference in quality, efficiency, and enjoyment of your running.
Then we transition into the filming portion where we capture the participants running: first in shoes, then barefoot. This footage will be used as a reference after you go through the drilling portion of the clinic. The goal here is not to prove that we should all run barefoot, but to learn how you can run more naturally. The objective is to run in whatever shoe works best for you (fitted by a professional and offering appropriate support), be it minimal, traditional, or even alternative footwear options..
The drills portion lasts for about 25 minutes and takes you through the four points of GFR. It gives you a chance to practice the four points in action under direction of the GFR trainer.
Lastly, the class goes into the review phase where you will have a chance to go over the points of GFR and see your video, having it analyzed by the instructor. Then you're off!
GFR Clinics are for one hour before the store opens and are limited to 15 people. You can RSVP at: http://www.asnailspace.net/FormsGFR.html

Staff Spotlight
Where are you from originally and when did you move to So Cal?
I’ve lived in SoCal my whole life. I grew up in Orange County.
What got you started on running, when, where, etc.?
I started running my senior year at El Dorado High School. I always enjoyed running the mile in my P.E. classes while everyone dreaded it and one of my friends decided to join the xc and track team our senior year and I joined her and fell in love with the sport! I then continued at Fullerton College where I had my best races.
What has been your favorite race and why?
I haven’t done many road races but my favorite is probably the Huntington Beach 10 miler. I wasn't really training at all at the time but I still decided to run it and got a decent time and first in my age group! I really liked the distance. It was my first 10miler. Before that I only ran 5k’s and 10k’s.
What is the coolest place you have gone for a run?
The coolest place I've gone for a run has to be Utah. I went on a road trip with a bunch of friends to go hiking there and we went on a couple hikes in Bryce Canyon National Park and Zion National Park. Some of us ran through parts of the hikes but had a lot of stops because of the gorgeous view and the elevation made it hard to keep going. It was good training though because there was a lot of uphill.
What are you training for now and how is it going?
I’m not really training for anything right now but I think sometime in the near future I would like to train for another 10 miler or train for my first half marathon.
Do you have any races that interest you?
My favorites so far are 5k’s and 10k’s!
What are your current running goals?
I currently am dealing with an injury so I’m just taking some time off to rest.
What is your best running tip?
Be consistent with your runs! Also, having a running buddy helps a lot to keep you going! Oh and having the right shoes!
Why do you run?
I run because I’m good at it and I love competing.
Any other hobbies or interests?
I really enjoy going to the gym and hiking!
What do you like most about working at A Snail’s Pace?
I love how much I've learned about so many different things that involve running. It’s awesome to be able to inform and help out our customers about stuff they had no idea about. Also, working with such a great staff makes working at A Snail’s Pace so enjoyable!
