Entrepreneurial-based teaching and learning that combined academic knowledge with a practical application

Entrepreneurship and the Creative Media Industries

The Sector Skills Assessment for the Creative Media Industries in Northern Ireland, reported that:• Creativity combined with entrepreneurialism are

both the driver and the challenge for the creative media workforce

• New graduates are lacking in the high level creative and entrepreneurial skills needed for the sector to grow

Mentoring as a compliment to existing teaching

“In seeking to embed entrepreneurial skills and knowledge, providing practical mentoring through the entrepreneurial process is considered a more effective method of disseminating these skills”(Hegarty 2006, Hegarty & Styles 2008)

To gain knowledge and understanding of entrepreneurial approaches by engaging directly with media entrepreneurs

To inspire and engage undergraduates to participate in entrepreneurial activities

Creating a safe environment for entrepreneurship based learning that encourages a proactive culture, and an openness to experimentation and to ‘doing’.
