Getting Started

Beginner’s Guide to Instagram• Photo sharing app on mobiles ‐must download to your iPhone or Android

• Adds photo filter• Posts to your web page on instagram.com

Instagram – Set up• Download the app• Register account• Public by default• Can create private account

• Change your profile picture and edit info.

Follow people• Import contacts from email or from Facebook

• Once you follow people, see their photos and share photos with them

• Comment & like through the heart icon

Notifications• Set up your notifications

– If someone likes or comments on your photo

– When someone @mentions you in a comment

– When your photo is posted onto a popular page

– When you are tagged in a photo

Sharing Photos• Connect to social• Go to options button and to Share Settings

• If you choose to not share on social networks, photo appears only on Instagram

Photo tab• Add a photo• Click blue camera button in nav panel

• Can use photos from your camera roll

Instagram• Filters/Borders

– 20 filters – Give special effects– Some add borders– Can also remove borders with the square ‘frame’

– Tilt/shift

Explore Tab• Find people to follow• Search for users• Explore hashtags ‐#hospital, #privatehospitals

Home tab• Shows feed of photos by you and your friends

• Can like or comment on photos in feed

Video on Instagram• Can record and share directly from your phone

• Can add filters• Videos can be 3‐15 seconds long

Dos and Don’ts• Keep it fresh• Write a good bio• Use hashtags• Use text to describe• Be creative• Don’t post every photo• Don’t overdo the editing• Don’t post photos that are not yours
