IRRAWANG PUBLIC SCHOOL
An Innovative, Vibrant and Diverse Learning Community
Term 4, Week 4, 3 November 2017
Dear Parents/Caregivers,
We are nearly halfway through
the term. Swimming School,
Illuminate lantern workshop,
high school and kindergarten
transitions, excursions, Semester
2 reports, end of year planning
and so much more are well under
way.
Lots of notes are being sent home
with closing dates, information
and costings. We must stick to
these closing dates for notes and
money to ensure correct booking
and numbers take place. I thank
you all in advance for the
understanding of this necessary
process.
Our jointly constructed school
vision has been finalised. This
was a collaborative process
where staff, students and parents
had their say on the future
direction of our school. Our
school vision for the next 3 years
is as follows:
Irrawang Public School (IPS) is
dedicated to providing quality
academic, cultural, sporting and
performing arts opportunities in a
21st Century environment. We
promote confidence, respect and
success in our students, staff and
community members.
I am excited and committed to
achieving our school vision
together.
STEM Superstars at Irrawang
The Science Technology
Engineering and Math’s Bridge
Building Competition was held
today at The Rooftop - Kotara.
Mr. Edwards took a fabulous
team of 4 to compete. Kaitlyn,
Meghan, Maggie and Jackson
created and tested their bridge.
As a result, the team came 2nd
out of 57 teams!! What an
amazing effort. Special thanks to
Mr. Atherton for coaching us in
engineering. See our facebook
page for some wonderful
pictures.
Kind Regards,
Mrs. Mathieson
Principal

IRRAWANG PUBLIC SCHOOL
Wow! We are nearly no longer the little ones of the school! We have had so much fun this year in KC growing, learning, playing and most importantly making friends for life during our first year at Irrawang Public. If you visit KC, you will now find little ninjas running around, Aussie 5 superstars everywhere and fabulous
learners ready to venture into Year 1.
We would like to thank Mrs Davidson for all her hard work and endless support as our SLSO in KC! You go above and beyond! Thank you
Lastly, we would also like to send a big thank you to our volunteer Mrs D, who has been giving up her time to help us with our Aboriginal Education. We love listening to your Dreamtime stories, creating Aboriginal
artwork and making some yummy Johnny cakes! Thank you
We have been having a great time danc-
ing and playing on rollerboards in the hall
for sport.
KR have had a great first year at school. This term we
have been learning about the creatures that live under the
sea. We have had some fun finding information about the oc-
topus, dolphins and sharks. KR have also wrote great Infor-
mation Reports about them. We have created a sea across
are classroom with lots of sea animals in it.
KR continues to read in the Engine Room every day and are
working hard to become great readers. Wow it is hard to be-
lieve the year is almost over.!
Irrawang Public School’s PBL News Irrawang Public School Community play their part by being
safe, responsible learners who show respect
everyone, at all times, in all settings.
RESPECT
How people show respect? Being an active listener
Being kind and considering others
Speaking politely and minding our manners
Looking after our community
Sometimes we react to a situation without considering the consequences.
We might say or do something that could be hurtful or harmful. It is important to be respectful to EVERYONE.
Controlling what we do and say is an important skill for life.
How do we show respectful behaviour at school, home and in the community?
Using appropriate language towards everyone at all times in every setting.
Thinking about and making right choices in all settings, at all times.
Listening to and following instructions in all settings every time with everyone.
Being in the right place at the right time doing the right thing.

Inquiry Showcase Research What we have learnt about our IDENTITY?
We are all like onions . . .
Created with unique layers that make us the amazing individuals
we are.
Our personality, families, communities, religion and beliefs (to
name a few) all influence the remarkable people we are.
What makes you unique? Stage 2 and 3 will look more closely
into this through the lens of famous architect
Hundertwasser and the Five Skins.
K-2 Author Appreciation This weeks Author in focus is Mem Fox.
Mem Fox is Australia's most successful author of books for young
children. Her first book, Possum Magic, is the highest selling picture
book ever in Australia.
In Irri’s Library we have read Whoever You Are and Two Little Monkeys.
The students enjoy listening to the rhyme and looking out for Mem Fox’s hidden messages!

Is your child starting Kindergarten in 2018 at Irrawang Public School? A reminder that our
Irrawang Public School Kindergarten Transition to School Program (5 week Program)
Starts: Next Wednesday, the 25th of October. Time: 12.30pm-2.30pm (meet in the Infants Cola)
Each week, as part of the Kindergarten Transition to School Program, our new Kindergarten Students will be finding out more about ‘Big School’ through learning
experiences within the classroom and school setting. For the first part of the session, our parents and caregivers are invited to an informative session, where we will offer
information on our school, teaching programs and how we can further support your child, as part of their transition to school experience. The second part of the session
will involve parents/caregivers reconnecting with their child and experiencing the school setting as a family.
Please call the school office on 4987 2403, if you would like further information. Child-care is available at Thou-Walla, for younger siblings.

Canteen Volunteers Needed
Providing nutritious food in our canteen is a vital step in helping kids set up healthy routines and habits for life. Our canteen is run with the help of a network of volunteers from our school community working together. If you can spare any time to join our network and help prepare and serve food at our canteen, we would very much appreciate a hand. Its easy and fun work with On-the-job training and you can dedicate as much or as little time as you like. Our time is from 8:15am-12.30pm if you are available. All volunteers’ efforts are rewarded with a healthy lunch and as much tea and coffee as you can drink. Just fill in the volunteers slip below and email or send it back to school. If you have any queries please feel free to contact me via phone, email or drop in to the canteen for a chat. Many thanks, Phyllipa Elvidge Canteen Supervisor 49872403 ipspandc@hotmail.com ______________________________________________________________________________________________
