NNEWEW ARMA IARMA INTERNATIONALNTERNATIONAL MMEMBERSHIPEMBERSHIP LLEVELSEVELS
Starting in July 2013, ARMA International is introducing membership levels so that
you can join and participate as it makes sense for you, your career and your organi-
zation.
Our new membership levels will be broken out in the following categories:
Professional Member ($175): A Professional member will have all of the perks
of our current member and then some. Professional Members get discounts on
all of the resources ARMA International provides. They receive a print sub-
scription to our Information Management magazine. And most importantly, Professional members will have 24/7 access to all of ARMA International’s On-
Demand web seminars, free of charge – a catalog of more than 250 cutting-
edge topics all at your fingertips, when you need answers to your most press-
ing questions. This is ideal for any member who is familiar with information
governance and can benefit from substantial discounts on education and re-
sources.
Associate Member ($95): This is our first step into membership, recommend-
ed for students and retired professionals. Associate Members can join an AR-
MA International chapter and have access to an electronic version of our award
-winning Information Management magazine. It’s a great way for those new to
information management to get up to speed and see what ARMA International
can do for them.
Friend of ARMA ($0): In the past, we’ve considered nonmembers to be only
customers. But they’re so much more than that. They are our friends and our
colleagues, and we’re happy to provide them with the resources and education
they need.
Look for communication arriving soon in your mailbox and inbox with even more
information on ARMA International’s membership structure. As you renew your membership in the next year, we are happy to help you navigate the changes and
decide what level makes sense for your current involvement.

MMESSAGEESSAGE FROMFROM THETHE PPRESIDENTRESIDENT
The leaves are turning, pumpkins are popping up around town, and
we’re hurriedly moving into the last quarter of the calendar year. But the Tidewater ARMA Chapter year has just begun and we are already experiencing change. Our elected President, Vivian Washington, re-
signed her position due to additional professional commitments. Our by-laws dictate that the Vice President assume the responsibilities of President when there is a vacancy in that position – so here I am!
The Board met September 24 to fill the vacancy this created in the Vice Presidency, and we welcome Kim Kindrew, CRM, with much appreciation for as-
suming this appointed role. Vivian served us well in her brief presidency, bringing new vision and enthusiasm to
what Tidewater ARMA could accomplish under her leadership. One of her initiatives was to establish clear charges and achievement benchmarks for our standing committees. A
description of the committees and the benchmarks approved by the Board are included in this newsletter. Our committees are staffed by member volunteers – so please give of yourself to the success of this organization. Find your committee niche and PARTICI-
PATE! If you missed the September meeting, you missed a fun but detailed look at marketing
your records management program. As records managers we maximize the utility of rec-ords through the systematic retention and disposition of business information. That’s
what you do every day! We must effectively communicate the valuable resource we are within our organizations, and Kim Kindrew, CRM, of Jefferson Labs helped us focus on ways to do just that. Building on the marketing of our programs, this month Bruce
White, CRM, of Old Dominion University will help us with project management for rec-ords managers. Join us for his presentation on Tuesday, October 15, at Bensi Restau-rant in Hampton. We start with registration and
appetizers at 5:30 p.m. RSVP today!
I’m looking forward to seeing you . . .
Angie

ABOUT THE INSTITUTE OF CERTIFIED RECORDS MANAGERS AND THE CRM
CREDENTIAL
The Institute of Certified Records Managers (ICRM), an international certifying body of and for professional records managers, began the process of issuing the CRM designation in 1975. The organization and the credential continues to be a valuable part of the Records and Information Management (RIM) community; an expanding interdisciplinary, global and diverse constituency. The ICRM serves as the official certifying body for both ARMA International and the Nuclear In-formation and Records Management Association (NIRMA).
The CRM credential provides a strong foundation of core skills and competencies for the RIM pro-fessional. It covers everything from general management principles, all aspects of recordkeeping from creation, management, control, storage and disposition, through in-depth areas of record-keeping technologies. In addition, CRM Candidates are required to put together the subject mat-ter knowledge they gain through preparation for the exams, by writing two business case studies that demonstrate their ability to apply and convey their knowledge to upper management, clients and other constituents.
