1. Introduction

This report describes the work carried out during the summer of 2010 and 2011 by

Midland Exploration Inc. on the Ytterby project. This project is a partnership between

Exploration Midland and JOGMEC (Japan Oil, Gas and Metals National Corporation).

The Ytterby 5 project area comprises 4 claims blocks, located near the border

between Quebec and Labrador, approximately 200 to 230 km east and northeast of the

town of Schefferville. This report will describe the work accomplished on Ytterby 5

project area, in the territory of Newfoundland and Labrador province more specifically

on 018311M, 018312M, 018312M and 019316M mineral licenses respectively.

Several types of work were undertaken on the Ytterby 5 project area. It includes a

prospecting and reconnaissance mapping program which included rocks sampling during

the summer of 2010 (19 of July to 31 of August) and channel sampling as well as grab

sampling during the summer of 2011 (11 of July to 12 of September), conducted by

Midland exploration team.

All work undertaken on this property is described in the present report as well as the

expenditures cost.

2. Property description

2.1. Location and access

The Ytterby 5 project area is located near the border between Quebec and Labrador,

approximately 200 kilometers east-northeast of Schefferville (Québec province) and

about 160 kilometers west-south-west of Nain on the Labrador coast (fig. 1). The town

of Nain is the closest community to the project area. Nain has a population of

approximately 1,250 habitants. It is served by coastal freighters during the summer

month and by daily flights from Goose Bay, Labrador. It serves as the local service and

supply center for the Vale Inco’s Voisey’s Bay mine. Schefferville town is also served

with regular flights and has a rail road served with a weekly train.

Near the project area, there are some hunting camps that can be used for

exploration purposes. Used by Midland Exploration Inc. the Mistinibi camp, which can

accommodated more than 16 persons, is operated by “Société de Développement des

Naskapi Inc.” Near the camp, there is a short gravel airstrip. It is also located close to the

Mistinibi Lake, so that can be easily accessed by hydroplane. Access to the four Midland

claim blocks are by both aircraft and helicopter.

2.2. Physiography

The terrain is characterized by several ENE-WSW trending narrow ridges and a

relatively flat plateau. The maximum elevation is 570 meters. Eskers and kames are

common in the area. The drainage is predominantly east and southeast. Bedrock

exposures, abundant on Ytterby 5, are mainly found on hilltops and cliff faces.

2.3. Mining titles

The Ytterby 5 project covers 4 individual mineral licenses containing a total of 54

individual mineral claims in the Newfoundland and Labrador (fig 2). It covers a total area

of 13.4472 km2 (1344.72 ha). All mineral licenses are 100% held by Midland Exploration

inc. Description and detailed information about these mineral licenses, are listed in

table 1. Figure 2 shows the locations of the 4 mineral licenses.

2.4. Previous work

2.4.1. Lake Bottom Sediment Geochemistry

The area covered by the Mistastin Batholith has never been the focus of any

substantial mineral exploration except the work completed by Iron Ore Company of

Canada (IOC) during the late 1970’s and early 1980’s some 70 kilometers northwest.

This work led to the discovery of the Strange Lake REE deposit.

IOC initiated their exploration work following the release of geochemical data by

the Newfoundland and Labrador Geological Survey. The survey revealed the existence

of anomalous fluorine in lake water and uranium in lake bottom sediment samples

collected in late 1970’s in Labrador. Single-element maps for ore-related geochemical

components show that the Strange Lake mineralization is best identified by Be, La, Pb,

Nb and Y. The deposit is also defined by Ce, Rb, Th, U and Zr, but not as clearly. Few La

lake bottom sediment anomalies were outlined in the Ytterby 3 vicinity by this survey.

2.4.2. Airborne Radiometry Geophysics

In the early 1980’s, the Geological Survey of Canada (GSC) completed an airborne

gamma-ray spectrometry (figures 5, 6 and 7) and magnetometric (figure 3 and 4) survey

covering the Ytterby 5 project area. The lines were orientated east-west with line

spacing of 2,000 meters. The Ytterby 5 project area is marked by an isolated strong

uranium and thorium anomalies and vague circular magnetometric low.

3. Geology

The properties aim in this report belong to what James et al., 1996 and more

recently Wardle et al, (2002) defined the “core zone” of the southeastern Churchill

province, which forms the back-country of New Quebec orogen and the tectonic

foreland of the Torngat orogen (Wardle and Al, 1990). The Rae province is divided into

lithotectonic domains delimited by major ductile faults.

It is made up mainly of Archean gneissic complexes mobilized during the

paleoproterozoic orogenic cycles of New Quebec and Torngat. The province is also

composed of volcano-sedimentary rocks, which were metamorphosed in to various

degrees, such as the paleoproterozoic group of Lake Harbour, the George River domain,

the volcano-sedimentary complex of Ntshuku and the Mistinibi-Raude domain. We also

can find on the province paleoproterozoic plutonic domains such as the De Pas batholith

(1.84 – 1.81 Ga) and mesoproterozoic plutonic suites, like the Michikamau anorthositic

suite (1.46 Ga), the Mistastin granitic-adamellite complex (Lalonde et al., 1994).

The property is underlain mainly by Archean and/or Paleoproterozoic of

amphibolites-facies orthogneiss and paragneiss of the southeastern Churchill province

(Kerr A. and Smith J. L., 2000). To the south, the property touches part of the Fazy lake

pluton (1450M Ma) which is a biotite-hornblende, lesser olivine and clinopyroxene

bearing quartz monzonite (figure 8). This intrusive body is located around the margins of

the Harper Lake Intrusive suite (HLIS), which is part of several undeformed

Mesoproterozoic plutonic complexes.

The Majoqua formation (1323 Ma) is composed by red sandstone, thin basalt flows

and tuff including flat-lying rocks of Shispikan plateau.

4. Field work

The 2010 and 2011 prospection program included rock sampling assisted with

handheld spectrometers and/or a scintillometers, two proved tools for radiometric

target identification. The program was aiming mainly airborne geophysical features

outlined by the GSC survey. Back from the field, the rock samples were analyzed with a

portable Niton XRF which provided a fair estimate and presence of REE concentration.

Finally, selected rock samples were sent to Activation Laboratories Ltd., located in

Ancaster, Ontario, for preparation and analysis.

In total 23 grab samples were collected, of which 9 are situated in the

peripheries of Ytterby 5 licenses. All rocks were analyzed for REE (table 2 and appendix

1). Sample locations are shown on figure 9.

Recently during the summer 2011, Midland conducted an exploration program

by doing channel surface sampling. Tree channels of respectively 11m, 2m and 5m in

length were sawed. A total of 18 rock samples, each measuring 1m in length, were

collected (table 3, figure 10 and 11). Further the rock samples were analyzed with a

portable NITON XRF providing first results in REE concentration and sent for assaying to

Activation Laboratories Ltd., located in Ancaster, Ontario.

A list of assays certificates and results can be found in appendix 1. Personnel who

participate in the project are listed in appendix 2.

5. Results

Assay results from the 2010 exploration campaign show that 3 grab samples have

anomalous REE concentration; sample 2297, 2307 and 2308 are mineralized with 0.6

0.57 and 0.87 % of TREO + Y2O3 respectively and are associated with a punctual

magnetic high of 1500m in diameter. Sample 2297 is from a 3 tons boulder containing

minor amount of ilmenite and sample 2308 comes from a centimetric granitic pegmatite

cutting through a migmatitic rock.

The 2011 assay results showed 4 anomalous grab samples in REE concentration;

samples 533145, 533146, 533148 and 533409 are mineralized with 0.55, 1.36, 0.58 and

0.58 and % TREO + Y2O3 respectively. The mineralization is hosted in an alkaline granite

cutting through the gneissic country rocks.

Three channels were cut through the mineralized zone with 18 samples collected

averaging 0.46% TREO + Y2O3, ranging from 0.12% to 1.32% TREO + Y2O3. The average

assay results of the TREO + Y2O3 per individual channel is 0.40% /11.0m including 0.68%

/3.0m for channel 1 , 0.35% /2.0m for channel 2 and 0.63% /5.0m including 1.17% /2.0m

for channel 3.

Results and descriptions of samples from the 2010 and 2011 campaign exploration

can be consulted in table 2and 3 respectively.

6. Exploration expenditures

The exploration cost was calculated following the Consolidated Newfoundland and

Labrador Regulation 1143/96 directives. The total cost takes into account all personnel

engaged, rented equipment, transport in to field work and exploration logistics within

018311M 018312, 018313, and 019316M mineral licenses. The total exploration cost

and expenditures descriptions for each license are listed in tables 4 to 7. A list of

persons engaged in the 2011 exploration campaign is available in appendix 2.

7. Conclusions and recommendations

With hand-held spectrometer, radioactive materials were encountered and often

found associated with high REE concentration anomalies obtain from grab samples and

channel samples. The anomalies in the trenching area are hosted in an alkaline granite

cutting through the gneissic country rocks. Diamond drilling is recommended in an

attempt to source and explain these anomalies.
