FPCP is working more closely with our Presbytery and its program for the 13,000 children living in

foster care in Michigan. Our prayer ministry can help by praying for a special child each month. This

month we are praying for 12-year-old Hunter. Hunter is described as an outgoing, goofy, active,

dramatic and smart kid with a lot of simple pleasures. He likes participating in sports and his favorite

food is macaroni and cheese. Hunter hopes for a family who has a big yard and since he loves

animals, he wants one who has pets. More info on Hunter can be found at Mare.org. If you are

interested in helping with our foster care projects, please call Peggy at 734.953.1044.

Rev Dr. Davidson Chifungo, National Director, VERITAS College, Malawi Currently, Davidson is serving with VERITAS Bible College, Malawi as National Director. At VERITAS College, Davidson is involved in training for Biblical and holistic development for grassroots Church leaders and believers. Rev. Davidson Chifungo previously served as General Secretary of the CCAP Nkhoma Synod Church of Central African Presbyterian Church in central Malawi from 2007-2013. Rev. Chifungo grew up as a poor boy in a small village near Nkhoma. He was educated at the African Bible College in Lilongwe (a USA-based mission University), graduating in 1997. After graduating in 1997, God immediately called Davidson and Phoebe Chifungo to serve as

missionaries from Malawi into rural Mozambique. In 2000 he was ordained by the Presbyterian Church in Malawi, but continued to serve in rural and poor parts of Mozambique. In 2004, Davidson left Mozambique to be part of a Christian organization called VERITAS College. Davidson served as a program manager with VERITAS College, focusing on the training of lay leaders for Bible interpretation, application and communication, The vision is to develop transformed communities (communities which are able to apply God's word in all spheres of life). Today, Davidson is very passionate about facilitating and coordinating partnerships between churches, organizations and individuals from different nations working in Africa. Rev. Chifungo has received both his degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Practical Theology) and his Masters of Theology from Stellenbosch University in South Africa. Davidson and Phoebe have three daughters: Thoko, age 18; Thandi, age 12 and Temwa, age 10.

AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF REV. VASCO KACHIPAPA I was born 44 years ago. I am married to Madalitso, who is a High School teacher, and together we have three children; Miriam (18 yrs), Esther (16 yrs) and Reuben (14 yrs). I hold a Masters Degree in Transformation Leadership – Professional Studies from Barclay College in Kansas. I was ordained in 2001 and served in three different congregations. I have also served as the Synod Youth Director for five years. Furthermore, I was elected to serve as the Synod Moderator for two consecutive terms (2 years each), and I am currently in my fifth year serving as Synod General Secretary.

PLASTIC Did you know that plastic straws add up to about 2,000 tons of the nearly 9 million tons of plastic waste that ends up in waters around the globe each year? (The De-

troit News, 07/10/18) What a sobering statistic! Every day mountains of used plastic consumer products and packaging head to landfills, wasting the materials and energy that created them. Many of us recycle our plastic containers curbside, and although this is important, an even better effort is to reduce the amount of plastics we buy and to reuse the items we do buy. Reducing and reusing can divert millions of tons of garbage from landfills and our waters every year. (http://ecologycenter.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/eliminate-plastic.pdf ) We offer the tips below to inspire you to reduce, reuse, and trim plastic from your life at home and at our church.

FPCP Partners in Earth Care Reduce and Eliminate Bring your own cup or thermos when purchasing/drinking beverages away from home. Avoid plastic by buying in glass or metal whenever possible. Look for items with little or no packaging. Avoid individually wrapped portions (cheese slices, juice boxes, etc.) Bring your own containers and bags to stores and refill or reuse them. Purchase items in containers that can be refilled. Eliminate packaging by buying in bulk and large containers. Take these next steps: Drink filtered tap water. Fill your own bottles with water, eliminate waste, and save money. Buy used items - electronics, furniture, clothing, bikes, household items. Use reusable tableware, plates, and cloth napkins when hosting a party. Refill toner cartridges, pens, and other office supplies. Avoid disposable products: bags, plastic utensils, razors, pens, lighters, batteries. Urge your grocery store to carry products in bulk, or those that have reduced or recycled packaging. Choose long-lasting metal or wood toys and products, rather than plastic. Rent items that will only be used a short time. See if your community has a tool lending library. Complete the loop by buying products made with recycled materials, such as recycled paper and glass. Contact the manufacturer of products whose packaging isn’t recyclable and ask them to choose better

packaging.
