About Auston InstituteAuston has glorifi ed in its role as a tight-knitted, industry focused, urban institute which has consistently provided mainstream courses.

Condusive and vibrant, set in the heart of Singapore, Auston has remained resolutely specialised in Engineering, Management, and Info-Technology concentrating on the top-up degrees which have served its graduates so well in the employment market.

Its strategy up to 2012 however, aims for ‘sustainable regional expansions’ and the introduction of ‘To Market’ expansions instead of the heavy reliance on international student populations at the home campus in Singapore.

Auston has maintained its position as one of the top schools in Singapore after successfully achieving their CaseTrust, ISO and Singapore Quality Class for Private Education Organizations, all renewed in late 2009.

Modest growthDespite modest, but substantial growth, the university programme sees more than 400 proud undergraduates annually. With major revamp to government regulations, an exhilarating new course line-up and new prospects for the industry in Singapore, Auston has been investing in its future, increasing their employment of lecturing staff with calibre and substance, redefi ning cliche’ campus-life into a high-tech urban center of knowledge striving towards excellence.

CampusThe 5-story city campus is conveniently located between Boat Quay and Clarke Quay, and in close proximity to the Clarke Quay MRT station. Under it’s new leadership and management since 2008, extensive renovations have taken place, renovating and refurbishing it’s entire outlook and facilities, barely recognizable and much improved as compared to it’s original state.

The SchoolConsistently awarded as one of the top few private schools in Singapore, we work hard to maintain our awards of Singapore Quality Class, ISO 9001 and CaseTrust. Our administration is fi rmly focused on the quality delivery and the student experience through our experienced lecturers. They work hard to ensure that the quality of higher learning in Singapore is identical to that in Coventry University, UK.

Coventry University and Auston have been working together for nearly a decade and enjoy the benefi ts of a close collaboration. The degree programmes are taught by locals tutors, who ensure that case studies and examples from South-East-

Asian business environment are included to give students an all round understanding of the complexities of the international business world today. Assessments and exam are set and moderated by Coventry University, which ensures that the quality of the degree meets the rigorous standards of UK quality assurance.

With a strong focus on student experience and learning, we are committed to provide our students with the highest level of education and service. Our faculty and staff are dedicated, highly qualifi ed professionals committed to offer students personal service and attention.

Students at Auston are encouraged to undertake challenges; to think and question on a critical and analytical level; to develop a momentum for life-long learning; and to use the knowledge attained to fulfi ll their aspirations.

FacilitiesOur building is 8000 square feet well classrooms equipped for digital and multimedia delivery. Campus-wide wireless networks allow seamless integration of personal laptops and 24/7 internet access available indoors and outdoors. Our two 14-computer labs allow for specialized software processing and are available to all students at no additional cost.

AUSM85 Marketing ManagementThis module is designed to provide students with an in-depth knowledge of the component parts of marketing, particularly so as marketing, more than any other business functions, deals with customers/consumers. The components of marketing will be explored from the perspective of the two main sectors of most economies, manufacturing and services. The exploration of marketing will be underpinned by drawing upon the rich theoretical heritage that the subject supplies.

AUSM62 Human Resource ManagementThe purpose of this module is to develop a critical view of human resource management in the context of modern society and modern organisations. The module will review the changing nature of the employment relationship and critically evaluate the potential contribution of HRM to organisational effectiveness and effi ciency.

AUSM64 Global Business EconomicsThis module is designed to provide an economist’s introduction to the internationalization process of a fi rm

Modules Descriptions

whose boundaries change from operating in a domestic “single” market to a “multi-market” global market. The module compares the risks and opportunities of operating in both domestic or global market and the different paths to developing an internalization strategy. The module provides a thorough introduction to globalization processes and their impact on domestic and global business practices. Issues discussed here include changing organizational structure of multinational companies, the development of global value and commodity chains, innovation and learning in global value chains and theories of catch-up.

AUSM84 Strategic ManagementThis module will develop students’ understanding of the theories and practices of strategic management. As the world of business becomes increasingly interdependent, it is vital that students become aware of the nature and complexity of the global business environment, how an organisation analyses its resource base and enhances its strategic capabilities. The module will also permit an evaluation of an organisation’s strategic decision-making process with reference to a

variety of variables including structure and context. Finally, the module will enhance students’ understanding of the problems inherent in strategy implementation and change management.

AUSM68 Issues in Global BusinessThis module aims to provide studentswith an advanced understanding of the major challenges facing fi rms engaged in global business transactions. In addition to considering pertinent and long standing issues in the arena of global production, exchange of goods and services and participation in global fi nancial markets, students will also have the opportunity to examine contemporary issues affecting fi rm competitiveness in the global economic and business environment.

AUSM20 Project ManagementChange is endemic in business and organisational settings. Developments such as those in technology and communications have meant that organisations have had the opportunity to transform their products, their markets, their relationships with their customers and suppliers and their organisational processes. Whether organisations are

Modules Descriptions

ahead of their fi eld, and wish to maintain that lead, or whether they are reacting to competitive pressure, it is important to be able to plan and manage organisation change projects. This module is designed to introduce students to the complexity of managing change in an organisational environment. It aims to develop the students’ understanding of the issues involved in identifying the need for change, planning and implementing change.

AUSM15 International MarketingThe module aims to introduce and develop a contemporary perspective of the international marketplace and the key tasks involved in successful international marketing. Module coverage ranges from analysis and research of the international environment to the design and implementation of specifi c international marketing activities and strategies. The overriding design criterion has been to equip the student with the means to address international marketing problems through a practical and planned approach. Issues in integrating the marketing mix and implementing, evaluating and controlling the marketing programme in the Asian

context constitute a common theme of this module. While an Asian perspective is taken, some focus on European (EU) and other trading blocs will be introduced through case study illustrations and specialist study.

AUSM58 Financial Analysis for ManagersThe module will develop the student’s ability to use fi nancial information within the strategic framework of a business. It will create an awareness of issues in fi nancial reporting and corporate fi nance as well as providing a fi rm basis for further study in fi nance. It will provide students with the skills and knowledge necessary to evaluate business situations from a fi nancial viewpoint, and enable students to take a full part in fi nancial decision-making and control within an organisation.

AUSM70 Business Research MethodsThis module aims to introduce students to the key concepts involved in management and social science research. The module will enable students to develop their understanding of key research techniques and methodologies and will give them the opportunity to consider examples of relevant

research. Students will be engaged in practical exercises to develop their knowledge and choice of research skills and methods. Additionally, this module will assist in developing students’ skills in framing their research proposals and writing-up their research in a variety of suitable formats including short management reports and extended dissertations.

AUSM18 DissertationThe dissertation builds on AUSM70 ‘Research Methods’ and gives students the opportunity to enact the dissertation designed and approved in the methodology module. The dissertation report will be strategic in nature and around 13,500 words excluding appendices. The dissertation forms a substantial part of the overall study leading to the MBA. Accordingly, a high standard of achievement will be expected and the dissertation should draw on the intellectual and analytical skills and knowledge developed during the course. The module also provides an opportunity for students to develop their interests in a particular area and to demonstrate an ability to undertake individual research.
