I have always heard the saying, "The Lord will answer your prayers according to his will, and I believe that with all my heart. Also the answer will be YES, NO, OR WAIT AWHILE. This answer was surely a long time coming, but yet it worked out perfect in His timing. Because of my physical situation we are bound to home for a period of time. Usually we are home only Jan., Feb., and March. These months are so full of preparation, moving would be impossible. You might wonder where does the song "Blest be the tie" come in? .... Without the prayers for us, the sale of the house, and consistant concern and love from so many wonderful friends, our faith may not have been strong enough to sustain us. The bond of Christian love is the greatest sustaining power I know of, other than our Lord Jesus Christ. We thank God for all our friends! (Phil 2: 1 & 2, N.A.S.V.) You will be wondering what is the situation since I have been in limbo, and what is wrong. Diagnosis, another disc has gone, scar tissues built up on the four other back surgeries, and of course the arthritis is in there full force. The pain has been intense. Numerous measures other than additional surgery are being tried. Some working, some not. Travel to the scale that we had kept up will be impossible, thus we have prayed and prayed about what to do. We have many things scheduled and pending. It does not seem we should discontinue our work. Those scheduled we are hopeful of keeping, in many instances flying. (They will pay expenses.) Then for those that we drive to, we will go at a much slower pace, with less in the area at the time. Some days we had three concerts, besides numerous radio, newspaper, and TV interviews, and that was a lot. We feel one of our greatest ways of helping other parents and people involved in Mental Retardation has been thru various agencies. We hope to concentrate on Benefit concerts for these, and at the same time, schedule the churches in the area. Possibly, just flying in and then returning after the course of events have been fulfilled.

Such a beautiful song—and words! It has a depth of love and warmth that brings tears everytime I singit. God's love is that way...The season we have been in is winter! It was apparent with leafless trees, non-blooming shrubs, flowers of all kinds dormant, and grasses browned by the frost. There is a certain portionof Shuster Ave. in El Paso, I love and as we rounded a curve, the gorgeous blue, cloudless sky had caughtmy eye and captured my thoughts, but suddenly there was a huge flowering tree, high in the yard of a hillsidehome that was laden with brilliant pink buds. What a sight, and what a surprise! 1 had no idea things wereso close to budding out. The day before perky little jonquils peeped through and the tulips and hyacinthssurprised us as they burst forth. God's timing takes place as always as he wills it! My how this was broughthome to us the very next day.

As you all know for two years we had tried to sell our home. It was such a responsibility to have whiletravelling, and also the work was endless for us. Coupled with the tremendous office work, and letter writing,we were really at the place of thinking God had other plans, as we felt we could no longer go off and leaveour house as before. HOWEVER, in those two years, we realized there had been absolutely NO TIME forus to move. We were booked too heavy, and the timing was not right. People would go thru the house, andtell the real estate agent they would be back with a contract. NOTHING!!

Most of you do not know that my back became severely painful this past year, having had a very hardfall earlier. 1 tried and tried to keep going, but toward the end of our tour we rearranged our schedule andcut it short, to come home to my doctor. I ended up in the hospital. The renewal for the contract of salewas due on the house. We told our friend we would not go ahead right now. I was not up to having a houseready for showing constantly, and then we decided that we might even just try to sell it ourselves.

Our prayers became more earnest. We KNEW God was alive, He had a plan, but WHAT. After the weeksof prayer, and hoping and praying we would do the right thing, we decided.we would put it in the paperjust one weekend. We did not want to spend much money on advertising. We feel we can continue as things are now by just slowing our pace. Also so many people have said, "Why don't you wriie another book, or why don't you send articles to magazines."

The main reason is TIME. The schedule we were keeping made it an impossibility. I struggled for days just writingthe newsletter. I have many things I would like to write about, but without office help, I have no time. With the slowerpace, I am hoping that these things might become a pan of our ministry, possible reaching MORE people than weare now. The whole emphasis is and always will be, ''We can do all things thru Christ who strengthens me."

Our first trek out will be to Denver the weekend of April 19, 20, and 21. We will share in a Missions Fair at theBear Valley ChristianChurch there, and then fly to the Chicago area for the Indiana Association of Retarded CitizensAssociation State Convention. This will be a superb opporiunity and time will be precious at Bear Valley on Sunday. Also while in Denver, Tim will give a benefit concert for the Adams County Association of Retarded Citizens (TheAdams County Center). The exact date is pending as 1 write. This time out will tell us a lot as to the limits we arebound by.

I was asked to write an article for Seek magazine, and this time has permitted that. It will be published in Dec.issue 1985, and concentrates on the joys and hardships of having a special child.

The fall tour has left us with so many marvellous memories, and hopefully after we get moved I can write this inBaley'sNotebook. Of special significance was Tim's visit again to the Nation's Capital and playing at the NationalSymposium of Mental Deficiencies. Those days were WILD but meaningful.

There have been several concerts while home, but not as many as before since I have been in stop gear. Probablyone of the greatest helps to Tim is playing as church pianist for the little church we attend when in town. They arewithout a pianist currently. Tim was the only one. His playing was not always in the key for one to sing. He wantedto do it SO BADLY, that he spent hours upon hours practicing so he could accomplish this. Dad was by his sidehelping, and together bySaturdaynight. Victory was there for Sunday. Also, this hasmadeand forced himinto greaterversatility in his regular playing. He is so proud that he can serve HIS Lord in this way. It's a dream we never thoughtpossible.

Jerry will begin the rounds again with getting Melody ready to go. We hope to be able to resolve the heating ofthe transmission, and hope that our expense in all the repairs will be minimal. It may be necessary to go to a heavycar, for the comfort of riding. We are considering this. So MUCH to THINK ABOUT!

We ask your MOST EARNEST PRAYERS FOR US TO KNOW GOD'S WILL AND DIRECTION IN ALLTHINGS. We want to glorify and honor HIM according to HIS will in our lives always in all ways. Pray for health, strength, wisdom and direction, for the relief from pain.

Withoutsaying, you know medical expenses are wild, Melody has them too—and January and February are usuallypoor months financially. If you can help, we would be so grateful.

Tim's bike as well as his piano are really getting the workout since we are home!We just wanted to let you know what is going on and that we love each one of you, and a fuller report will be

on its way as soon as I physically am able to handle it all. Those who ordered the book will be receiving them shortly. They arrived but the binder did not do a satisfactorjj

job...thus they were sent back to be done over. THEY WILL be coming!!!How much we love and appreciate each of you and for your prayers and financial help we humbly say THANKS

from the bottom of our hearts.

God Bless, good health, and so-long for now,

June 1985Just to CHATTER and share some ' HI - NOTES ' so have

a cup and think with me about this story I heard. (WeVe thoughta lot about it.) A woman confiding her troubles to a friend ina distant city wrote, "WiU you PLEASE PRAY WITH ME thatin this crisis I will be guided to do what, a year from now, IwiU wish I had done, (or be glad I did)!' A surge of reassurancecan sweep through your blood SIMPLY by reading Psalms 32:8b- "I WILL GUIDE THEE WITH MINE EYE!' With Him as

our guide and helper, we can live today so that we will haveNO regrets tomorrow. It all takes TEAMWORK, and there isno "I" in team. Form a partnership - YOU AND CHRIST!

And now some Key Notes. ..

. . . First is the WHOLE NOTE. . .A longer note about—Earnest prayers for our tomorrows have gone up!!! Our prayer:HOW CAN WE BEST SERVE? Limitations of physical endurance have taken pre-eminence in planning our future. A tripin Melody (our motorhome) to Denver and another to Austinleft us with NO doubt an easier riding vehicle would have toreplace our Melody! (That was devastating as she was family.)Jerry began the rounds of hunting the right van or heavy car,and our prayers were continuous. Result, we traded her for a1984 Ford conversion van. (Tim is disappointed it isn'tDIESEL.) It was so clean I was sure it must be new when hecame home with it. The seats are excellent, and the comfy captain's chairs recline. Also the back seats make into a bed. Aslovely as it is and as comfortable as it will be for travelling,IT ISN'T MELODY, AND WE'LL MISS HER! It won't be thesame. . .Our next trip out will be June 30 through most of Julyinto New Mexico, Arizona, and California. This will tell us alot in how we can schedule our future. We do plan a slower

The GRAND Surprise

pace and more concentration in an area when we drive, but weare looking more and more to the big birds in the sky. Friendshave told us about the airlines and the tickets you can buy andgo any place in the U. S, for one price for the full year. Thisis available to senior citizens, and Jerry is (Should I say it?)a saintly senior! Actually we cannot begin to drive for the costof the tickets. We are faced with an ever increasing office load,as the past 4-1/2 years have brought us into a lot of situationsand lives! Constant requests of every description come acrossthe desk, and yes, fan mail for Tim, and we see an ever increasing Arm Landers' type of help to parents and concerned people.Mail is always stacked. And even as it is we do not handle the3,000 plus on the mailing list and keep it updated. SpanishAmerican Evangelism, who capably does all of our printing, also sweats over the mailing in its entirety. We need to be ableto have much less HIGHWAY TRAVEL and use this time in

correspondence, writing, booking, bookwork, etc. We havegrown to the place where most offices would have 3-4 peopleon their staff. Rest and relaxation seem to be nil. Having thevan will lessen work that was necessary for Jerry on the motorhome (Driving is about a full time job.) and for myself thehousekeeping entailed in it. We are planning emphasis onwriting, as there are many possibilities here, and also, AGAIN,at the persistence of many, many people, a sequel to my book,or another book. I am surprised at myself, but I REALLY dowant to do this. (I can't say that for the first one.) Time againis a hindering factor, just as I have not been able to do a fullBALEY'S NOTEBOOK for some time. HOWEVER, aU experiences after the first book will be included in the secondbook. IT IS EMINENT YOU PRAY FOR AND WITH US as

we seek God's guidance in everything we do.

Now a few QUARTER NOTES(Short excerpts from the past HAP-E-NINGS!)

.. .Last October Tim was invited to play for the InternationalSymposiumon Mental Deficiencies in Washington, D. C. Thiswas a wonderful honor, and we were thrilled to go. While therewehad many interviewson radio, T. V. and newspaper in thoseseveral days. One was VOICE OF AMERICA. When the interviewaired, Red Camp's son was in California driving downthe highway, and he heard the interviewXW (Red is Tim's pianoteacher in Corpus Christi, Ibcas.) What a shock.. .The onlynatural thing for son to do was call his dad!!! Another interview in Florida produced Red a phone call from a musicianfriend of years back. (As Tim always says, "Back in the oldendays? Weare happy these joys came to Red, as he and belovedwife Alvis have been such a special part in Tim's and our lives.

.. A flyingtrip recentlyfrom Denver(WedroveMelodythereand flewout.) to Chicago whereweweremet at the airport bya charmingyoungman, BenCreswell, hospitalityrepresentativeof the Holiday Star Resort in Merriville^ Indiana. Ben took usby limousine from the Chicago O'Hare Airport to the hotel. It took 1-1/2hours to drive the 60 miles from Chicago to Merri-villeand 2-1/2 hours to fly from Denverto Chicago!! Purposeof trip.. .Tim was invited to play for the state convention ofthe A. R. C. (Association of Retaided Citizens)which was heldin the hotel Wewerepampered and cared for, and wehad everyintentionof reciprocating just as intently. Well, the airlines goofed, and dad's suit and Tim's tux were left in Denver! Tim wasmore than a LITTLE disturbed, but he trudged on - playingin the suit he had donned at 4:30 A. M. I assure you he anddadwere ready for a change of clothes when we got back toDenver next day. (Oh yes, we picked the suiter up in^hirago~and took it in hand back to Denver. Th^ can even lose stuffwhen you don't even change planes! Moral of story - if onlyone set of clothes, never check it through! It was a trulymemorable and thrilling experience.

A GRAND AND NOTEable EVENT

Happy Birthday, Tim!!!

.. .When we came off the road after the 8 month tour lastyear, Tim came to me and said, "Mom, as soon as you feel likeit, can we have a party for me? I love all my friends, and havenever had a party I could invite my friendsl' I had just gottenout of the hospital, and the last thing I was thinking about wasa party, but I said, "Sure, Tim, you make your guest list, andsome day we'll do that!' Next morning I had my list (more likea book). Since then we have thought much about it but haddone nothing. When Melody was traded, we knew we neededto remove the piano from the motorhome, but what to do withit. It seemsFOREVER Tim has begged for a grand. Numerousftiends and family have wanted this for him, too, and gifts atvarious times came in. Jackie and Gaylord Schroeder ofSchroeder Baldwin Piano Co. have given us the opportunityto trade the motorhome piano and our home piano in at fullpurchase price toward a grand piano. Besides this they havegiven a contribution, along with many friends and the CivitanClubs of El Paso. Also we had the little junker car we ran aroundin when we had Melody and our little Citation we parked inOhio when we picked up Melody in 1980. With the van now,we would not need these. Thus, this mon^r could be used towarda GRAND! As we figured and scrounged, we got so excitedand

said, "Let's go for it and give Tim a SURPRISE BIRTHDAYPARTY and at the same time SURPRISE HIM WITH THEGRAND. As I writethis, plans are in fuU swing, and I beg theLord's forgiveness for a few white lies. It has beenno easy jobkeeping the secret. The piano will be delivered Friday, 21stofJune. Party scheduled 2.-00 P. M., the 23rd. What to do withboysincepiano will be in house?? Kindfnends, Rosemary andRichard Bencomo, will keep him occupied Friday until Saturday afternoon, and then he goes to stay with Lloydand LorettaSapp and will go to churchwith them Sunday. Theywillbringhim to the apartment for the party Sunday afternoon. It hasbeen such JOY in planning, and people have helped in everypossible way. It has certainly proved to us howwonderfully Timand Jerry and I have been so blessed of God by such a hostof friends. We plan to havea videocassette madeof it, sojnanyof you can see it this way. I believe this will about equal thesurprise he had when he played with LIBERACE. The pianois 5 ft. 1 in., a K. Kawai Ivory Grand. Ivory or white are hisonly color choices. My only conmient is it is ELEGANT,andI praise God He is working all this out for Tim. And it willindeed be a further incentive for practices

.. .Austin was good to Tim. An mvitation to the TfexasAdvocates Fine Arts Festival (a competition) was Tim's firstcompetition. He entered in the individual music category andcame home with the 1st place winner's plaque. What a thrill! It graces his wall in his room. At the same time memories arepleasantly embedded with oiu-wonderful day at the SouthwestChristian Church while in this lovely city.

.. .THIS IS URGENT—URGENT—URGENT ...

Wehave come to realize some of our mail that people have~sMt us nas not^bera rrewved: Several times~iequesls fui cuu-certs, etc. havegone astray. MAYWE SAY wefaithfully answerevery thng we receive! If you have ever written and NOT receivedan answer, you can be certain we did not get it Weare so verysorry!!! Wesuggest.. if you write and do not hear, please call! But it might save worry and time to phone rather than write. We have an answering service and can return your call if weare not home. Send ALL mail to this address, please.

.. .Our final tribute to Melody. She served us faithfully over91,000 miles, and though wehad more than a few problemspriorto selling, we found that the overheating was in the transmission. After the 3rd transmission (put in at a new shop), it wasdiscovered th^r had previously used inferiorparts and especiallythe clutch fan. Wewereable to turn her over to the new owner, whoever he is, without this problem. We liked that!

And now the FINAL NOTES of this tune (the coda)—

. . .It is time again for a full revisionof our mailing list. Thisletter is being sent to all who are on it. Between now and thenext issue the classification of contributors of the past 2 yearswill be done, and only those in this classification will remainon the active list. We want so very much to share with you how Godis allowing us to serv^ but we must hear from you. . .To ourcontributors in this time fram^ it is not necessary to informus. Our total income for May was $1,777.29. This fund includesliving and working expenses.

We appreciate your care, concern and support and ask againfor your continued prayers on all that is before us, as we lookback at the story at the beginning of the letter.. .This statementcame to me today and I want to close with it. ..

But first know that you are in our prayers, and we love youeach one...

And now remember my thought "BEING HIS GIVESCAUSE TO LIVE!'

God bless.

Jerry, Rosemary, & Tim

Whoops! About forgot the 16th note (tiniest note of all).

Introducing "Charmie!" Our home wihout a dog (Actually shedoesn't know she's a dog.) has left us all longmg for the samesince we had to give up Tiffany. At Christmas friends sent acheck and said, "Don't spend this on your work or on Melody! It is for a gift for the 3 of you!' Ah Ha! I thought - a puppylf£'could train to travel with us. A LONG story evolved, but wegot the adorable 9 oz., 4 week old, (supposedly) white (She hasconsiderable apricot coloring.), tea cup poodle, on Dec. 24. Aname? Oh, say, "Jerry, I love Stephanie but we need a neatFrench name, so that's your job - o.k.?" Well, it wasn't o.k.,but he found the French word Charmant which means SWEET

(And she is sweet\), so he suggested calling her "Charmie!'Perfect! In telling Loretta Sapp her name I said, "In our caseit is please squeeze the Charmie!" She laughed and said, "Oh,then she's little T.P.!" Her full growth weight is less than 3-1/2lbs. A man said, "Where's the REST of your dog?" How welove her!

Editor'sNote:Since this went to press after the birthday party,we are pleased to include some pictures that were taken Sunday afternoon, June 23rd. Everyone who came made it abirthday that Tim will never forget.

'TIM'S HYMNS'

... In her book Rosemary tells not only of the many crisesin their lives, but also how God has given their son a tremendous finger dexterity and how it led to a keen interest in thepiano. As parents, they did all in their power to encourage Timin his music. His little one finger and one hand tunes led totwo fingers, two hands, and soon he was scaling the keyboard!Tim plays almost completely by ear, never with music, and asong is rarely played the same way twice. Those who hear andsee him MARVEL at this God-given ability. Many requestswere made for tapes after reading the book or hearing him—thus "TIM'S HYMNS — HE TOUCHED ME" was made. Thename so chosen simply because, truly, GOD touched this one'slife. There are 17 favorite hymns on the cassette.

Fall 1985

April 19,1985 - It was 6:00 A.M., a cold, misty, drearymorning as we piled into the car of our good friend,Wilma Grimstad, and hastened to the Denver, Colorado,International Airport. Anticipation of the comingeventswas not dampened by the wet weather; we did not realizethe severity of the storm above us. The coming activitiesand the part we were to have in the convention we wereto attend were uppermost in our minds. Soon we werefastening seatbelts and zooming high in the sky. Alas,a touch of fear as we began to enter into the hovering, black clouds. It seemed they were so heavy they wouldcrush the plane. Lightning, though beautiful, was like aknife stabbing. The rough, choppy movements left one'sstomach churning. Fear gripped many, and my ownuneasiness was surfacing until I remembered who is ableto bring PEACE in ANY storm! John 14:27 "Peace Ileave with you; My peace I give to you: not as the worldgives, do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful." Calmness flooded within me, I knewthe Lord was with us! Almost as quickly, we began torise above the clouds to the bright and beautiful sunshine. Then it was clear skies and smooth sailing. I couldn'thelpbut think of a statement Tim made to a friend when shesaid, "Tim, don't you become afraid when you play, especially when you give a BIG concert?" With a smileon his face and a glimmer in hiseyes, he firmly said, "NO,if I should, then I know I haven't talked to the Lordenough!" Howour fears would subside if in ALL thingswe could take advantage of the peace HE gives insteadof seeking it from a bottle. Rise above your cloud!

Hi Ways and By Ways — California Bound

It was a bit shocking to us trying to JAM everything

"Play me a song, Tim!"Happy 90th birthday, Grandma Brechbuhler!!

we thought we HAD to have into "LITTLEBLUEBIRD" (our van). Would you guess she's blue?Traveling in Melody (our motorhome) all these pastyearsmade it relatively simple. If we thought we needed IT,we would stuff it in! In the van, not so! So wedrug outand then drug in and finally after what seemed forever, wehad it all togetherand the day wehad been diligentlyworking toward, June 30, was here, and with a bit of fear(of what we might have missed taking) we pulled awayfrom El Paso on I-IO with ease and comfort in the "LittleBluebird". Oh, how the desert heat was upon us, butthank God for air-conditioning. We were mostcomfortable.

Lordsburg, New Mexico, was our first stop. We hadplanned so many times to try to get back there. Finallywe made it. A sort of community concert hosted by theLordsburg Church of Christ.. .On then to Sierra Vista,Arizona, another return concert to a wonderful church.First Christian Church... Next stop would be Anaheim,California. Being El Pasoans we don't fret over hightemperatures, but it was a bit hotter than ours when wehit the REAL desert. Night and earlymorning were bettertravel times. Indio, California, was a stop we'll alwaysremember!!! From the air-conditioned van we steppedout into 117° at 11:00 A.M. and found the motel wechecked into had DIRTYbedsas well as everything else.Tell youabout it sometime. Ugh... Next day it was goingback HOME for Jerry. Central Christian Church, SanBernardino, California, holds a veryspecial place in ourhearts. It is Jerry's home church, and also this is wherewe met. Friends here are really family to us! A gloriousday as we spent the full day on Sunday closing out witha concert in the evening. Hospitality abundant!.. .On

down to Anaheim now, and it was up, up and away to conform in harmony. Oh, we loved those kids, andEARLY. We were foolish enough tothink ifwe did that what a team who has labored so with them. It would bewe, and maybe a few others, are all that would be on the so simple to just say CALIFORNIA, HERE WEfreeway. HO, HO, HO!. We made it safely though as COME'' —So many questions we have concernmg Timthe Lord's angel lovingly protected us. Our destination and music would be solved; however, we feel any movewas the North American Christian Convention in in this area must be prayed over and worked out leavingAnaheim, July 9-12. We had our booth, and Tim gave NO QUESTION it is HIS will. Possibly we w^ work mtoa concert. It was an exciting and busy week. Such joy itslowly. We ask your earnest prayers. I could say so veryto have reunions with SO MANY friends from all over much more about it, but space does not permit. It youthe country. All too soon we bid farewell... have questions, I can send material on the college. Tim

Doris Walker, the Executive Director, and heroff was another wonderful time with the Camarillo husband, Elden, have become precious friends. Flooded with love and joy as we once againvisits with concerned people. Possibly one of the most shared here. Itseems to become harder and harder to saytouching experiences we have had in our whole time of good-bye...Alot of times some really FUNNY thingstravel with Tim came aswe were at the Ventura County happen, and I guess I should write them all down, butworkshop in Ventura. Tim played from 12:30 to 2:30 this one cracked us up. Alady went through the receivmgahnost straight through. Back down the coast now and again toAnaheim. About trip indistance and gave us much joy. We were reminded5years ago we learned about HOPE UNIVERSITY — it was HOT as we got out of the van, but NOT LIKEUNICO NATIONAL COLLEGE — for the gifted INDIO. Many, many dear friends here, and coolmentally retarded. We felt this might be aplace Tim could watermelon was just the ticket after the concert... Lastreceive help. We wrote. After never hearing aword from concert now on this trip was just down the interstate inthe school, we assumed it no longer existed. When we Deming, New Mexico. The Association of Retardedreturned home from a trip in March, word from the Citizens sponsored it.An exciting evening, and the curtamdirector was on our phone that they were coming through was drawn on this trip, so best to scoot on home. It'sEl Paso and would like so much to meet us. We were only 120 miles. It was 12:30 A.M. when we hit El Paso, shocked! A phone call then confirmed their tune of and I believe Tim has a better nose than a bloodhound, arrival. And it was no April Fool joke when we met and for as we hit the outskirts ofthe city (he had been sleeping)had awonderful visit onApril 1. They had corresponded he said, "I'M STILL HUNGRY! We found a 24-hourwith us and sent material, but we NEVER got it, thanks restaurant. To behonest, we all enjoyed it. Our Littleto UNCLE SAM. Plans were made then for us to visit Bluebird" functioned well andwas a dream to travel in,the university (since we would be going toAnaheim) and but Melody was GREATLY missed. his lovely new grand for his birthday, he went to the pitsof despair.. .A world just isn't a world without a piano(especially a grand) and a bicycle. After a LONG timewe finally were able to replace it. The new one is whiteand gold. I said, "It matches your piano; you better sitit on top of it." I thought he was going to take me upon it.

Believe It Or Not

I guess we brought some of INDIO's heat back to ElPaso...

A missionary to India came to El Paso. He said to hishostess that he wanted to meet Tim Baley and his parents,if it was possible, and we didn't live too far. His friendsaid she would try to arrange it. Her apartment complexis in the next block from ours! When Phillip and MargaretHo came, they told us they had heard the 'Tim BaleyStory" in India via The Voice of America. Here is whathappened. Last March when we were privileged to attendthe International Symposium on Mental Deficiencies inWashington, D. C., one of the many interviews we hadwas on The Voice of America. They followed us aroundthe great share of a morning and again at night. This waswhat Phillip and Margaret had heard. At the same time,in the San Francisco area, Red and Alvis Camp's son (Redis Tim's teacher) was driving down the freeway inCalifornia, and he heard it!!! He called his mom and dadtelling them he had heard the story of Tim and Red!!!

HOW TIME FLIES

.. .The days of "at home" are fading. Bags are drugout and packed, and before we realize, we are headingout again, and it is September. I wonder where thesummer went?

AND THEN IT'S "ON THE ROAD AGAIN"

September 16 was a beautiful day to travel. The heatwas gone, and clouds were upon us. A few scatteredshowers made it most pleasant. Our path this time waseast on I-IO. Florida isn't just around the corner fromTexas. When we hit ORANGE, Texas, we were 1/2 wayto Florida, another "Believe It or Not." Hopes of aconcert in Sour Lake, Texas, were realized. SuchSOUTHERN HOSPITALITY. Tim was elated asPreacher and Mrs. Buford Cole loaded him down withHOT PEPPERS. Every place we would stop to eat hedrug a few out of his pockets to enjoy with his meals.I told him they were hot enough to set his pants on fire. His reply, "Oh, Mom, they're not hot!".. .We weresaddened as we saw the effects of some of HurricaneElena's happenings as we drove along the coast. Whatwe feared was an endless trip wasn't, as we did come toOrlando eventually and in time for our first commitmentwhich was at the Southeast Christian Church in Orlando. This active, growing, busy congregation has an 8:15 A.M.service. Tim would never vote for that—but he did agreeto play, and amazingly he KNEW he did it! Afternoonwas our time to journey to Apopka (near Orlando) and

to again be with the Lakeview Christian Church. We hadsuch a marvelous day, memories lingered as we finallygot to bed... The National Missionary Convention wassoon to convene, and we busily set up our booth. Thisjoyous week again passed all to quickly, and though wewere dog-tired, we hated to say good-bye.. .Through itall we were able to sandwich in a trip to Epcot Centerand Disney World made possible by generousfriends... Oh, for more time! Last concert in Florida onthe agenda now, as we excitedly spent the day with theFirst Christian Church in Orlando. Love those people andtheir preachers in Florida.. .We hope to return again andagain.

Lir Bluebird Wings Her Way North

Traveling now north through Georgia, and color isindicative fall is here. Oh, we are so blessed to see suchbeauty. Into Tennessee and soon Kentucky. An overnightstop at Lexington and with the Broadway ChristianChurch. A tasty dinner, and then a concert which wasaptly entitled a "Taste of Tim". Next morning wehi-tailed it on to Canton, Ohio. I drank in the scenery, and Jerry drove! Who can say there is no God when theylook at such beauty? Late afternoon we surprised mother.Arrival time was earlier than anticipated. Tim waspedaling hard in the back of the van to get to Grandma's,so we went faster.. .Grandma had a spread, and was ittasty. It was a long day, and bed was so welcome. Floridaseemed to have a thing against laundromats, so we savedit ALL for Canton. It took awhile, but we were soon cleanagain. We had gone to Canton for several reasons, butthe main one was my mother's 90th birthday celebration!

She doesnH really look 90!

We started the activities off with a lovely family dinnerfor all who could make it on Friday, October 4 (actualbirthday October 5). What a delightful meal and time, but I felt bad when we got home. In the night a sore throatawakened me. Saturday, the 5th, I was SICK. Hightemperature, sore throat, etc. soon found me in thedoctor's office. One very special event we had plannedto take in while home was my 40th high school classreunion. I had never been able to attend one. The timing

Page 10: Baley Gerald Rosemary Tim 1985 International

was perfect. It was this night!!! Medicine and bed all day,and then to the reunion. What a joy to see everyone afterSO MANY years. Amazing there were few I didn't knoweven though time made its changes on all of us. One ofthe class members, a commerical photographer, made apicture of all class members. It turned out beautifully, and I know all cherish it as I do. Thanks, Walt! The onlychanges I saw were maturity, a few gray hairs here andthere, and a deep sense of caring. (It comes withmaturing.) Next morning we were to sing for church, andTim play. I told the doctor the day before I HAD to, forit was mother's birthday, and we wanted to sing for her.He said, "You will never do it." Well, I got E for effort.

THE FAMIL Y

L to R: (Back row) Clyde & Wanda, Elizabeth & Wayne(Front row) Jerry, Mother, Rosemary

Our plans for Open House were so capably laid by mybrother, Wayne, and his wife, Elizabeth, and brother,Clyde, and his wife, Wanda. It was a simply beautifuland memorable occasion for all of us. All of the familywas there except a nephew from Dallas and a nephewfrom Columbus, Ohio, who came but ended up as anemergency in the hospital. From about 1:45 until after4:00, mother STOOD greeting her host of friends. Whata tribute to her! We kept teUing her to sit down, but shedidn't have time. We left the gala affair at 4:00 andhurried to prepare for the concert at the First ChristianChurch in Canton at 6:00. Mother and the family camelater. Tim gave the concert his very best, and Grandmaknew it was especially for her. A host of friends enjoyeda let down and fill-up time after, and mother was in thecenter of it. The gifts (though she requested NONE) and

Mother, Wayne, & our Aunt Alice

the endlesscards are priceless treasures to her, and shellreminisce the wonderful time through the long dark hoursof winter ahead. For those of you who shared in ANYway, our WHOLE family says, "Thaitks", and weappreciate your love for mother.

A very dear friend, Dona Young, wrote the followingpoem which was published in the local paper in Canton. We wanted to share it with you.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

She's a pillar of our church, I'd sayThis lovely lady — Elva Mae.I've admired her since I was a kid,A Christian example in all that she did.

I knew her mother too quite well.Grandma Stokes always liked to tellHow Elva Mae met her man — "Fred."

An outstanding couple, so everyone said.

They had two sons — Wayne and ClydeThey're always there by her side. And precious Ruby you can^t forget. The most consecrated Christian you ever met.

To me it not justifiedThe day I heard that Ruby died.It hurts to lose your daughter or son.Elva and I know — we each buried one.

Rosemary their youngest of all.She too answered her Lord's call.

Her ministry now is an unusual one, presenting their "Miracle" God-given son.

There's one granddaughter, 6 grandsons.Such education/talent accomplished each one:A doctor — a teacher — C.P.A. —

Interior decorator — young mother today. Two carrying on their grandfather's name:It's progress to see what the business became.

A concert pianist one can claim,Tho handicapped — he's gained fame.He tickles the ivories with a magic touchAnd Elva talks of him so much. All of her grandchildren number sevenFrom these come great-grandchildren — eleven!

They say you reached the big Nine-O.To look at you — you'd never know:Always so neat — sweet smile on her face. And never a little hair out of place.

There's Elizabeth, Wanda, and Jerry, tooThat complete this family tree.So — HAPPY BIRTHDA Y, EL VA MAE —You raised a wonderful family!

Now we get into a BUSY week. We had been askedto give a BENEFIT CONCERT for Heart, Inc. (Aplanned Christian residential home for the retarded inCanton). We said, **We'd be glad to." It was set forSaturday, October 12.1 had told Mary Price, the charming director, we would be available for concert publicity

after October 6. Well, she was a busy little bee, and wehad tremendous opportunities—several T.V. interviews, and numerous places to play. On top of that, we squeezedin some special times with friends and family! The weekflew by, and before we knew it, it was Saturday, October12. One of the most beautiful places Tim has ever playedwas in the Palace Theatre that night. It has been partiallyrestored (is 60 years old) and is a real treasure, thoughmany didn't think so and wanted to tear it down. It isnow secured by an endowment. A unique beauty is theceiling—a replica of stars and clouds—and you are certainit moves. Tim was enthralled and felt so honored to playthere. Boy Scouts and Viet Nam Color Guard gave a veryspecial touch to the lovely affair. We were happy to bea part of such an energetic group of concerned peopleworking toward this cause. under such pressure now, and we went to bed EARLY.Felt we needed it.

On the HOMEWARD TRAIL

Travel weather remained beautiful, and the vibrantcolors became more intense. Des Moines, Iowa, and theRising Sun Church of Christ gave us a lovely reception. The city was colorful, and the church was responsive andspontaneous in every way. An excellent concert for a weeknight. Afterward started driving on toward Joplin,Missouri, our destination for the following night. Wefigured if we could drive 100 miles, it would ease the nextday. A motel a friend told us about sounded like a perfectplace to stop. There hadn't been a motel on the road sincewe have traveled that has been full or close to it. Wouldn'tyou know, at 12:30A.M. they had a NO VACANCY sign. They were full, too, I am sure, as cars were everywhere. The Lord provided a place just a bit further. For awhilewe wondered though! Off again at 6:15 A.M. and arrivedin Oronogo, Missouri, (near Joplin) in plenty of time forTim to practice and have a nice visit and dinner and thento the church. After the concert a quiet time of visitingwith our hosts, the Charles Weavers. Tim was enamoredwith their large, lovely farm house. The LAST LAP is nowbefore us. Tim said, "Dad, I'm so anxious to get home!'—I said, "Dad, I'm anxious to get home!' Jerry drove 569miles to Amarillo that day, and early the next morningwe were back at it. One urgency was our puppy, Charmie, who had gotten sick and wasn't improving. Her fragile3 lbs. was losing its hold on her. It was a question to uswhat her problem was—but we felt sure she got some foodfrom against the wall or under a bed in a motel (possiblysprayed with bug repellant. Jerry saw her chewing, andsoon after she was sick.) We did not want to take her toa vet along the road so getting home was important to'Charmie', if not to anyone else. We winged our way onfrom Amarillo and arrived safely Saturday afternoon, October 19. Tim's longing to see and play his beautiful ivorygrand and pedal about El Paso was soon realized. Peoplein the apartment say, "It's so QUIET while you're gone!"

and more notes:

Charmie's Update: Efforts to bring her back to her"bouncing, vibrant self outside the hospital failed—buta few days of in-hospital treatment produced our effervescent puppy. She came back home at 2-1/2 lbs., but timewill take care of that.
