Community of Fellow Believers, In times of struggle it's easy to become distant, feel sorry for ourselves or even slip away from God altogether. God doesn't want this for our lives. He wants us to surround ourselves with the love and faith of fellow believers. Hebrew 10:25 “Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another–and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”

Heavenly Father, As struggles fall around us, remind us that we don't need to go it alone, there are others just waiting to walk beside us, sharing their own stories of encouragement. Lord, show us the importance of community as we surrender ourselves to accept your grace for our lives, believing that Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior. Through his name we pray, Amen

BETHEL HAPPENINGS

BETHEL U IS BACK The Education Team at Be-thel regularly invites guest professors to come and speak on various subjects. Each of these offerings are called a Bethel U event. This fall the Education Team is offering a two-session class titled, “An Appreciative Understanding of the World’s Religions.” The class will be held at Bethel’s Highlands campus at 7 pm, Wednesday, October 21st & 28th. Our guest speaker will be Dr. Matt Maruggi, professor at Augsburg College. The two sessions will explore how Christians can ap-preciatively approach the religions of the world. While the sessions will provide some particulars of world re-ligions, the emphasis will be on how knowledge and experience of the religions of the world can help with one’s spiritual development and understanding of the world. Tickets for the two-session class are $5 and can be purchased after all worship services (10/11-10/18), at Bethel’s Downtown campus office (920 Third Street, Hudson), or online (bethelhudson.org).

The box of-fice opens one hour prior to the concert. SHAMPOO & CONDITIONER COLLECTION Operation Help has asked if Bethel would assist in this year’s Christmas Campaign for children and their families living in the Hudson school district. In 2014 the campaign helped 350 children and 153 families. Bethel has been asked to provide only conditioner and shampoo (family-size sets). Collection bins are set up near both welcome cen-ters through Sunday, December 6. The Christmas Campaign is held annually at St. Paul’s Epis-copal church in Hudson. Other area churches will have similar collections to include in a care package (paper prod-ucts, laundry products, etc.) that will help these families make ends meet. Thank you for considering this local service project to the Hudson community.

ATTENTION ALL BETHEL SNOWBIRDS Many of you flee the magic of winter in this great northern tundra to bask in the warmth and sunshine elsewhere. Could you please call the church office (715.386.8821) and let us know your temporary address before you leave? That way we can keep in touch while you’re away. Thank you! NEW GIVING KIOSK AT HIGHLANDS We now have a giving kiosk near the Highlands cam-

pus welcome center which allows you to conveniently make debit or credit card donations to Bethel in less than 30 seconds! Kiosk gifts are automatically added to your Be-thel giving statement. Non-members can also give anonymously and still receive a tax receipt via email. And don't forget, you can also easily give

to Bethel via TEXT message. TEXT giving instruc-tions are available at both Bethel welcome centers. PLUS, if you use the Giving Kiosk or Text Giving option by October 19, you will be entered to win dinner for two at a Hudson restaurant!

GREATER COMMUNITY

THIS WEEK AT HIGHLANDS CAMPUS An Alzheimer's Play, "The Remember Project" will be held this Tuesday, October 13th at the Highlands campus children's theater at 6:30 pm.

The St. Croix Valley Foundation launched this pilot program to stimulate a community conversation around Alzheimer ’s disease. The idea stems from a book of three one-act plays titled The MemoryCare Plays (compiled and edited by Margaret A. Noel) and from the recognition that the arts are a powerful tool for inviting deep and meaningful conversation. The plays will be produced and performed by a small, pro-fessional, traveling cast that will visit various commu-nity centers, churches, care centers, and schools up, down and across the river. The plays will be fol-lowed by a facilitated conversation about how our communities can become more dementia-friendly.

SCANDINAVIAN FOOD FEST, OCT. 16 & 17

ARE YOU NEW TO THE FOOD FEST? The Food Fest idea was born in 1990 in the brains of Betty Hansen, Joyce Johnson and Marilyn Henderson, when they remembered the great food festivals they had seen in Decorah, Iowa, and Minot, S.D. You’ll find an abundance of food choices at the Food Fest! There are dem-onstrations of aebleskiver, heart waffles, krumkaka, kringle, sandbakkels, fattigmann, and lefse. Also being served are meatballs, Swedish brown beans, fruit soup, both baked and cooked rice pudding, lefse dogs, Julekaka, herring/crackers, rommegrot, and flatbrod. Open-face sandwich choices are pork, beef, crab salad, and rullepolse. Stop by to enjoy your family favor-ites, or if you don’t recognize these foods or can’t pronounce them (like some of us!), treat your taste buds to some samples. There’s also Scan-dinavian music, gifts and a bake shop! Bring your friends and family. Everyone is welcome!

Monies raised by the Food Fest have been distributed through the years to: the Bethel Highlands capital campaign, sponsoring of Tanzanian students, Grace Place, Operation H.E.L.P., Global Health Ministries, ELCA World Hunger, Luther Point, Hudson Back-pack program, The Source, Senior Center, Bethel columbarium, new tables for Down-town and Highlands, new refrigerator, stove, dishwasher and coffee maker Downtown,

blinds and much of the equipment in the kitchen at Highlands—just to name a few! Thanks to all for working at and supporting our Food Fest.
