Please note that school will end at 2pm on the last day of every term.
TT Days for this year can be seen on our website.
www.broadtown.wilts.sch.uk.
Our Learning Gem this term is
SAPPHIRE Focus and engage with learning and help others
to focus.
Please can we remind you that your child
should bring everything that they need
for the school day, with them for the
start of school at 9:00am.
Recently we have had a lot of late forest
school clothing/footwear, lunchboxes,
bottles of water and P.E kits.
P.E kits should be in school all week.
Late deliveries and interruptions are
disruptive for the class teacher, pupils
and office staff.
Thank you for your help.

Our Value this term: Peace
Attendance
I would like to remind parents of their statutory responsibility to ensure that their children attend school unless they are ill. At the end of last term our attendance was the worst ever due to the large number of parents that took their children on holiday during term time. The school term dates have been sent out to you well in advance and are also published on our school website. I therefore request that holidays are taken during the school holidays and not during term time. If you child has more than 10 sessions (5 days) unauthorised absence in a six month period then the Educational Welfare Officer will decide whether a fine will be issued. Attendance at the end of last term Class 1 89.58% Class 2 100% - Well done Class 2! Class 3 66.67%
The target for “good” attendance is set by the DfE at 97%.
Headlice
There have been cases of headlice in
Class 2 this term.
Can we remind you that all children in
school need to have their hair checked
and combed regularly then treat as
necessary if headlice are found. Then we
can stop this problem before it spreads.
This year, we will be having our Christmas Fayre on Monday 4th December. More information to
follow from BTSA …
Please return Tempest photo orders by Friday 3rd November in envelope
provided, with payment and completed order form.
Thank you

Reflective /Spiritual Garden
I am very pleased to inform you that we have been successful in securing a grant from the Spackman Charity to
support with the development of a reflective/spiritual garden. The area we plan to do this work in is the small
garden with the willow tunnel. Many thanks to Rev. Rachma for taking the application forward on behalf of the school.
Reading and Maths Buddies
As a school, we feel that it is important for us to provide opportunities for the children to learn from each other. This term, Mrs Clark
(Higher Level Teaching Assistant) will be training reading and maths buddies. As these schemes have been very successful in other
years, we are extending the buddy system to a wider number of children.
Important Information I would like to remind parents that if they have a concern with the behaviour of another child then in the first instance they need to speak to the class teacher. This will then be dealt with by the class teacher or referred to the Headteacher to deal with. Instances that have happened at school should be dealt with by the school and it is not appropriate for parents to go up to and tell children off. It is important to realise that children often only tell you one side of the story. If required, school will investigate and carry out a Restorative Justice Meeting with the children. In this situation, all children are listened to. They reflect on how their actions have made others feel. We then work together to decide what actions need to be taken to prevent a similar situation happening again.
NOTICE OF ROAD CLOSURES THAT MAY AFFECT YOUR JOURNEY TO SCHOOL
1) On 28th November 2017 for 1 day from 07:00 – 18:00hours for emergency repairs. Urgent closure of part of
Marlborough Road from the Sewerage works for approximately 100m in an easterly direction to Templars Firs Industrial Estate.
2) Temporary Closure of Station Road (Part), Royal Wotton Bassett; for an area of approximately 20m x 15m between its junctions with Tanners Close and Glebe Road. This Order will come into operation on 4 December 2017 and it is anticipated that the closure will be required until 15 December 2017. For more information go to Wiltshire Council or Royal Wootton Bassett Town Council websites.
Tempest Photographs As with anything, we have had a number of parents who are really pleased with their child’s photograph but we have also had other parents that have not been happy with the photographs. We have collated your comments and fed them back to the photograph company. We have also been asked by some parents if the photographs can be taken in the morning, As a school we have made a decision to protect the morning teaching of the core subjects of literacy and numeracy as much as possible. We presently use the hall as a teaching area in the mornings so we would not have a space for the photographs to be taken in. We also have most of our teaching assistants working in the morning supporting children. In addition to this, Mrs Macindoe spends a lot of time organising the photographs so it has the least disruption to teaching and learning and Mrs Macindoe only works in the afternoons. Photographs will therefore continue to be taken in the afternoons. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mrs Macindoe for all the work she does in arranging the photographs and ensuring that everything runs smoothly.
So far, School Council have discussed
the following:
Roles as members of School Council
Flower beds
Buddies
Healthy lunchboxes
Designs for the quiet area posts
Willow area rules
The things they will work on in the near
future are:
Flyer for Charity Events
Reading Incentive

Reflective/Spiritual Garden Plans

Many thanks to all the children who entered a photograph for the photograph competition. Several adults in the school selected a winning photograph to be enlarged

on the floor! Thanks
We also plan to have most of the other entries made into a calendar.
