It was lovely to see how happy they were and how excitedly they told me about the awesome activities they had been doing. I was also very happy to hear from the staff that all students were behaving and working well together. Camp is an important time for our Year 6’s to enjoy each other’s company, learn new skills and make wonderful memories. I would like to thank Mrs Willox, Mrs Petkoff, Mr McLennan, Mr Alllenby and Ms Bullock for taking our students on camp. This is a huge responsibility, takes a lot of planning and is very tiring. 2018 Enrolment Applications We are now taking applications for 2018 enrolments. Please note that students already attending Kindergarten at Camboon Primary School this year are required to apply for Pre-primary 2018. Application forms for these students have now been sent home. Current students from Pre-primary to Year 6 are automatically enrolled in each subsequent year and therefore it is not necessary to complete another application. If you know of any families with children eligible for Kindy next year, (born between 01/07/13 and 30/06/14), who are interested in applying to enrol at Camboon PS for 2018, please let them know to apply now. Applications for Enrolment are due by Friday 21 July, 2017. Please note that an Application for Enrolment can only be made at one public School. Applicants will be advised in writing by late August of their success in obtaining a place in the program for 2018. Successful applicants will then be required to complete enrolment forms. Buddy Bench The school has two new ‘Buddy Benches’ donated by Noranda Church of Christ; a yellow one for the upper school and a wooden one for junior primary. These benches are designed to support students who are having trouble with their friendships. The Social Justice Committee is receiving training from our Chaplain, Mrs Brianne Burne, as to how to assist the students who access the Buddy Bench. They will also be outlining friendship skills at our assembly each fortnight as additional support. We are very excited about this new initiative and look forward to the positive outcomes that follow.

Chaplain’s Corner Self Care – Why we must zoom in and out To develop a successful self-care plan, we must take a holistic approach. An holistic approach recognises the big picture of a better you while not neglecting the smaller pieces needed to complete the puzzle. If we only focus on the big picture (zooming out), we miss the important details. Yet if we focus too much on the details (zooming in), we can get short-sighted and hungup on a few small things rather than being able to appreciate and enjoy the big picture. For simplicity, the three main areas (pieces) of self-care we will address are: (1) Physical, (2) Mental/Spiritual, and (3) Social. These three main areas intertwine and overlap so if we neglect one area then the other areas will ultimately suffer as well. If wholeness is the goal, we need to take time to examine the pieces and make sure they are undamaged otherwise they won’t fit together to complete the puzzle. To start our self-care plan, set aside three sheets of paper. Label the top of one sheet Physical, the second sheet Mental/Spiritual, and the third sheet Social. Then on each sheet make two columns entitled: (1) Things I am Already Doing and (2) Things I Can Improve On/Start Doing. This fortnight, in the first column on each sheet, write down the things you already do that are examples of self-care in these areas. Over the next few weeks I will talk more about these areas and see where we can focus on improving and making changes to develop a solid self-care plan. Brianne (Mrs Burn) School Chaplain (Tuesday & Thursday)

AUSSIE OF THE MONTH

The Aussie of the Month Award is a West Australian primary

school based award program which has been in operation for

over ten years, with the participation of hundreds of schools

across the state. Like all of our awards the ‘Aussie of the

Month’ recognises personal endeavour, achievement and

contribution to the community. The awards also reflect some

of the values we share as Australians, a sense of fair play,

generosity of spirit, commitment to community, participation

and a real concern for the environment.
