The large file size of a picture from a digital camera or scanner can slow down the delivery of a presentation.You can compress the pictures in a presentation so that the file size is smaller. To complete this presentation, you will need the following file: p03_Pictures You will save your presentation as: p03_Pictures_Your_Name 1. Start PowerPoint. Locate and open p03_Pictures. Save your presentation in your PowerPoint Chapter 3 folder as p03_Pictures_Your_Name 2. Click the Office button , and then point to Prepare. Click Properties to display the Document Information Panel below the Ribbon as shown in Figure 1. The Document Information Panel provides a place where you can enter information about the file such as the author of the presentation, the title of the presentation, the subject, keywords, category, and status. 3. At the top of the Document Information Panel, click the Document Properties button,and then click Advanced Properties to display the p03_Pictures_Your_Name Propertiesdialog box, as shown in Figure 2.

The Properties dialog box displays additional information about the file, including itssize. This presentation is approximately 5 megabytes—5.4 MB. This is a large file thatwould be difficult to share by email, and that may be slow when viewed on a projector.Compressing the pictures in this presentation would decrease the file size and make thepresentation easier to share and view.

4. Close the dialog box, and then Close the Document Information Panel.

5. Display Slide 2, and then select the picture. In the Picture Tools, click the Format tab. Inthe Adjust group, click the Compress Pictures button, and then click the Options button.Under Target output, click the Screen (150 ppi): good for Web pages and projectorsoption button, as shown in Figure 3.

6. Click OK, and then click OK again to compress all of the pictures in the presentation. Savethe presentation.

7. Click the Office button , and then point to Prepare. Click Properties. At the top of theDocument Information Panel, click the Document Properties button, and then clickAdvanced Properties.

The size of the presentation file is approximately 1.24 MB—significantly smaller thanthe original file.

8. Close the dialog box, and then Close the Document Information Panel. Submityour file as directed by your instructor, and then Exit PowerPoint.
