TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK is ongoing. Remaining days and events are: WEDNESDAY – Power of the Pen! Show how SUPER our teachers and staff are by writing them a note or drawing them a picture. THURSDAY – Sugar, Sugar! Bring a sweet snack or drink to your teacher or staff. FRIDAY – Let’s give a big thanks by helping our teachers and staff with supplies for the classrooms. Bring a needed supply to support your teacher or staff for the remaining year and years to come.

SUMMER SKILLS WORKBOOKS: Studies show that much of what is learned during the school

year is lost over the summer months. Summer Skills Review Books provide students with a review of materials taught the previous year, and can give them an academic edge and self-confidence when they return to school in the fall. Workbooks available include math and language arts for students in grades PK-7th, Spanish 1 & 2 review, French 1 review, and pre-algebra, algebra 1, geometry, and high school math books. They even offer “Math for Life” books, if you want to brush up on your own skills! If you would like to see an example, or would like to order a workbook(s), stop by the school office or visit the website www.summerskills.com. They are $21, and orders are due to the school office by May 6.

COLLECTING AUCTION ITEMS! Please consider donating an item to be auctioned off. It could be something you make and donate like a blanket or pie or something you do like an oil change or painting a room in a house. If you own a business, consider donating a service or a product that your business sells. If your hobby is baking, fishing, boating, or something else a kid would enjoy, then you could auction off your time to teach a kid how to do that hobby. Get your kids involved by having your teenager offer a free evening of babysitting or lawn mowing. Re-gifted items are encouraged and accepted. Contact the office to sign up! Most of all, plan to attend, and bring a friend!

IT’S AUCTION TIME! The annual FLS PTL Fundraising Auction will be held April 30; Doors

open/silent auction bidding begins at 5:30, Dinner at 6:00, and live auction at 7:00. The catered meal

(catering provided by Klein’s Catering) includes your choice of country smoked ham or boneless chicken

breast with sides of baked potato salad and green beans; cherry cobbler will be served for dessert. Get

your tickets in the office now; they are $10 each

GYM WALL IMPROVEMENTS PROJECT. Tired of seeing the old blue wall tile in the gym? A project is being started to improve the aesthetics of our gym walls. We are open to any ideas including painting, removing the blue tiles, putting up Cardinal-themed wall mats, changing the colors to Cardinal colors (red, black, white), changing the tile on the outside of the gym in the entrance way, etc. All of these ideas have different costs associated with them depending on which options are selected. If you feel called to make a donation to this project, please contact the school office. Your donation would be tax deductible. For questions or suggestions, contact Principal Birnbaum, Bruce Fuller (Property Chairman), or Tim Burden (School Board President).

GYM RESTROOM REMODEL - We are beginning the fundraising process to remodel the School gym restrooms. We would like to convert the two small restrooms on the South into one large girl’s restroom and the other two on the North to Boys only. The expected cost is $125,000. $7,500 has been given and will be matched by Phillips 66. If you, or a person or business you know could contribute, we would greatly appreciate it. (These are tax-deductible gifts.)

CAMPBELL’S SOUP LABELS FOR EDUCATION PROGRAM IS ENDING…We have until the end of this school year to finish collecting labels and get them sent in before the program is discontinued. If you have any Labels for Education, please cut off the rectangle like the picture to the right, and send it to school with your student. We can use these labels to purchase p.e./recess/classroom supplies for our school!

PRINCIPAL - Mr. Birnbaum: Short & Sweet (Quotes from Marriage Services) - "Love won't sustain your marriage, but marriage will sustain your love."

One month from today will be our last day of School picnic (Friday - May 20) and two days before that we will have celebrated our 8th grade graduates (Wed. - May 18). Another school year has flown bye. I praise God for giving me and our staff the opportunity to work with each of you. I pray that God will bless our month together and pray God's refreshing spirit on all our Summer as we prepare for the next year's adventures.

OFFICE: - Mrs. Erickson: Thank you to everyone who has remembered me with goodies this week; I appreciate your thoughtfulness and generosity. You all do “love” so well!

PRE-SCHOOL – Mrs. Herard: What a busy week as we celebrate our staff, support staff and volunteers at First Lutheran! "V". Hard to believe there are only 4 more weeks of school! So, we will be doing final assessments over the next couple of weeks. They are an amazing group of learners! God bless your week!

PRE-KINDERGARTEN - Mrs. Kelly: It is great to be back! Thank you for all of your prayers! Thank you Michelle for taking my class while I was recovering! We are learning the letter "Z" this week and learning how to take care of our Earth. Have a blessed week!

PRE-KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Flaherty: Thank you for all the goodies!! This week we are working on the letter "Ww" and number recognition. Bible words are "Continue in what you have learned" 2 Timothy 3:14. I am missing a few field trip forms for our field trip on April 29th to the Library, please turn in by Friday. Have a great week.

KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Miller: I would like to thank all the parents that brought your children to sing in church last Sunday! They did an awesome job! Also, a big thank you to all the parents that helped with the Stephen Fite Concert field trip last week! Wow, it is hard to believe but we only have four and a half weeks of school left. Please keep working hard on your child's homework (Monday Folders). We are also working hard on our reading and math in school these last few weeks. Have an extra special week!

FIRST GRADE – Mrs. Birnbaum: Memory verse for Friday is the 8th commandment - You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor. Thank you Khloe, Jordyn, Alexander, Wesley, and Peyton for singing your praises in church on Sunday! Book orders are due online or to me by tomorrow. The track meet will be on Friday, May 6. Please make plans to join us for this fun day! I would like to have 4 parent volunteers (2 for girls and 2 for boys) to help me on that day. Please let me know if you are able to help out - thanks! All of the school children will be singing in church on Sunday, May 8 at the 11:00 service. The 1st grade class will have a final field trip on Friday, May 13. We will go to the Ponca City Library and then have lunch at Pizza Inn. I will send out field trip forms next week. Thank you for the treats and the beautiful flowers that you have given me. Thank you for the gift of your children this year - they have grown in so many ways!

SECOND GRADE – Mrs. Powell: This is the week we expect our eggs to hatch! We are so excited! Mrs. Patterson sent a note home regarding "adoption" procedures. Let us know if you have questions or concerns. We're looking forward to our field trip on May 2. Hopefully you've seen the permission slip. Please sign and return them (with the admission fee) by Friday. Friday, May 6, will be the track meet, another great day! Memory work for tomorrow is Philippians 4:8. We will do our spelling test in cursive and in print this week. Each child will need a $1 pool noodle by April 27. Thanks for your help with the egg drop. It was a huge success and you had great ideas! Thanks, too, for the great teacher treats. You're the best! Blessings!

Thanks to Executive Carpet Cleaners for sprucing up our classroom, and to Mrs. Shepherd for setting that up for us. The carpet looks so much better now!

THIRD GRADE - Mrs. Steichen: Testing if finally OVER!! I am so proud of all my students and all their hard work last week. This week: Memory: Proverbs 3:5-6 - due on Friday. Reading: Started How to Eat Fried Worms. Spelling: Test this Friday, with review words next week! Book Report: next week our note page is due. I hope we have all read our book and or almost done with it. If you have any questions please let me know. Thank you to Ann Jackson, PTL and all the other moms for putting on a wonderful lunch for us teachers! Also, thank you to everyone who has brought stuff for me this week! I love each and every one of you! Thanks for showing your love. We only have five more weeks left, let's finish strong!

FOURTH GRADE - Mrs. Sibley: Thank you so much for all of the Wonderful teacher appreciation gifts. I love them all. I can see all of the thought and love that was put into the gifts. Thank you! We have had our eggs since the end of March and have had Mr. Corbin Dewitt from the Kay County Extension come here and talk to us about the embryology process. Last week we candled the eggs and actually saw some chicks move along with hearts moving! We now have some chicks by the time you read this. Permission slips have already gone home, you are still able return yours if needed. Take home day will be late this week. Our in town field trip is next week. Make sure that you have a permission slip in and money for you if you are going also. Track day is here the week after next. Make sure that you get your Track day shirt in! Remember that signed Mid-Quarter reports are due back Monday. Continue to working on being a fifth grader to prepare for next year. Blessings as we Bless God Back!

FIFTH GRADE - Mrs. Schatte: Thank you so much to all that have made "Teacher Appreciation Week" a special week for me. It is truly a blessing to work with your precious children. We have started giving oral state reports, and that is going well. We took a language test today and spelling and reading tests are on Friday. Blessings!

thanks to the Student Council and the parents who furnished food, helped chaperone, and helped with clean up. 8th GRADE FLS AUCTION BASKET: The 8th Grade will be auctioning off a “Made in Oklahoma” Basket at this

years’ PTL Auction on April 30. Each 8th grade student should bring a “Made in Oklahoma” item to contribute to the basket to Mr. Covert by Thursday, April 21. The item can be purchased or made by you or someone you know (cash donations are welcome, also). If you have questions, please contact Martha Long at 580-716-0686.

Mrs. Goll: Whew! ITBS tests are done! The students did very well at focusing and I’m sure did a fine job with the tests. A few of us still need to make up a test or two because we were gone part of last week during testing. Most of our classes are working on geometry-related concepts right now. We’ll be very busy from now until the end of the year; so keep your focus, Students. Thank you, Dylan, for substituting for me on Monday. We’re looking forward to sharing the musical with you on Friday. We’ll see you then.

Mrs. Harbeson: Thank you, thank you, thank you! What a wonderful teacher appreciation week! I appreciate all the treats, flowers, gifts, and wonderful food that we have been spoiled with so far this week. I also want to thank Mrs. Goll and our fabulous student council members and their parents for putting on a great dance last Friday evening. I know everyone who came had a great time. We're also eagerly anticipating this Friday morning and evening for our musical performances! Mrs. Hanson, the actors, and the rest of the middle school students have been preparing to entertain and share God's message! I hope to see you there. A quick note to 8th graders...your OSU field trip permission slips are due tomorrow! Our trip is next Thursday, April 28. We're going to have a great time! That's all for now...blessings on the rest of your week!

Mrs. Hanson: The musical is THIS FRIDAY!! We will have two performances; a dress rehearsal at 8:30 am for chapel and an evening performance at 6:30 pm. All middle schoolers are required to participate and be dressed in a nice white top and nice black bottoms. The kids have been working so hard and are so excited to perform for you.

Besides that all classes will have vocab quizzes Friday except 6th because they will have tested Wednesday. All 7th graders still need to bring gift cards for the auction project. Mr. Covert: Things are moving on now that we’ve finished with testing! I’m praying that God is with us as

we start to get into the end of the year mode and try to cover everything we can! In 8th grade, we’re wrapping up World War I and then we will look at the causes of the Great Depression

and the lead in to World War II. 7th grade is finishing up Southeast Asia, and then we’ll move to the west and look at South Asia. The 6th graders are just about done with Medieval Europe, and following that we’ll start in on the Renaissance and Reformation.

I pray God continues to bless all of us as we continue to celebrate the Resurrection of His Son!
