prize code on the front of the packet, and have your student (2nd & up) bring it to the school office first thing in the morning to get your wand. For students 1st grade and below, take your completed form to your students’ teacher first thing in the morning, and they will get it to the office and get your wand delivered to your student. Thanks for supporting FLS!

TAX STATEMENTS: If you would like a printout of your payments to First Lutheran School during 2015 for tax purposes, please stop by the office/send me a FastDirect-mail/or call the school at 762-9950. You can also print them off yourself by logging into your FastDirect account, scroll down to the bar that says “2007 Tax Year

Printout”, change the year to 2015, and click the box that has “Tax Year Printout” in it. This will include school-related expenses only; summer daycare tax statements must be requested from daycare. Remember that not all payments to FLS are tax deductible, and you should contact a tax advisor to find out what can be written off, and what cannot.

TAX STATEMENTS FOR SUMMER DAYCARE should be requested from Daycare. The tax statements that you get through the office only include charges for the school year, not summer daycare.

FIRST LUTHERAN SCHOOL CHESS CLUB will meet each Wednesday morning at 7:15 in the First Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall beginning Wednesday, February 3. There is a one-time fee of $35 to help cover the cost of chess sets and clocks for the club, as well as the student’s very own scorebook. Entry forms were due in to the school office before Friday, January 22; copies are available in the office. For more information, please contact Jennifer Vaughan at 580-716-1931 or [email protected], and be sure to like us on Facebook: Chess Club - First Lutheran School.

PRINCIPAL - Mr. Birnbaum: Question of the Week: Why did the chicken cross the playground? Answer: To get to the other slide. Three Weeks gone in this third Quarter and a lot going on with Mini-Cheer this week, Basketball games and

tournaments, Chess Club starting next Wednesday, and Class pictures coming up in one month. Please keep on top of your child's grades thru this hectic time.

Ash Wednesday is in TWO WEEKS (Wednesday - February 10). We will again do a worship service where we talk about our mistakes and sins and how Jesus came to earth to live a perfect life for us. We will take ashes and put it on the children's foreheads in the sign of a cross showing that our sins are destroyed thru the life and death of our Savior. (Most children will do it but it is not required. Those choosing not to participate will just stay in their seats at chapel instead of coming forward.)

Tomorrow is the big day! 100 days of Pre-Kindergarten! We are well on our way to having 100 cans for the Church food pantry! Thank you to all that have donated cans so far! Look for the reminder note in backpacks today. The Stephen Fite permission slip and money were due today. If you haven't returned it, please bring it tomorrow. Our February book order is in backpacks today. It is due back to me or online by Friday, February 5th. Chapel offering this quarter is for missionary Pastor Ed Hosch and his family, who are serving in Peru. Please consider helping them tell the people of Peru about Jesus! Mark your calendars for Friday, April 1st! ECE will be going to the Wondertorium in Stillwater. This will be a parent drive field trip. More information will be coming home soon. Our Bible words this week are, Oh give thanks to the Lord, for He is good. Psalm 107:1 Have a blessed week!

3 Growing up Into Jesus, Reaching Out with Jesus, Walking Together in Jesus

FIRST GRADE – Mrs. Birnbaum: Memory verse for Friday - Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners. 1 Timothy 1:15. Field trip money and permission forms were due today - please turn in by tomorrow if you have not yet. The 100th day of school is tomorrow - we are very excited! Please bring your canned food and your "100" food items for our trail mix. January reading logs are due on Friday for your child to receive their free pizza certificate. We will have show and tell on Friday. A Valentine party is being planned for Friday, February 12. The kids may bring valentines to exchange. Happy birthday to Khloe today!

SECOND GRADE – Mrs. Powell: WOW! So happy to have had 13 second graders come to sing on Sunday. They sounded amazing. Thank you. Thank you for checking to be sure your child knows memory work before you drop them off on Thursday mornings. Keep reading for AR. Several friends have reached their third quarter goals. Each child will need a shoe box for Valentine's Day. We'll make our boxes February 1. Blessings!

THIRD GRADE - Mrs. Steichen: Thank you everyone who came to sing in church with us on Sunday. You all did an amazing job and sounded beautiful. Thank you Mrs. Schelp for working with our kids to make them sound so wonderful. This week: Memory: 10th Commandment, next week we will start working on the Articles. I will get a copy of those for you. Spelling and Reading Test on Friday, and paragraph on Thursday. Math: we just took a test so we will have our next one after Lesson 65. We are going to start testing over our multiplication facts; look for information about that. Book Report information will be coming home this week, please make sure the book is over 100 pages and in your child's reading levels. A.R. We are working toward a game day, please ask your child where they are toward their goals. Valentine's Day: A note should have come home yesterday about boxes, if you have any questions please let me now. Have a great week!!!

FOURTH GRADE - Mrs. Sibley: I hope that we are all staying warm as we really see the winter temperatures. Thank you for the great Parent Teacher Conferences last week. Remember that I am always a Fast Direct or phone call away for any questions. Continue to be reading for AR & Book IT. January Book IT sheets are due on Monday. Some are well on their way to making or have made their goal already! Many have found that without nightly reading at home, it can be difficult to make our AR goal. We will have our SE States & Capitals test on Tuesday. I know that we have been studying. Our S.S. chapter test is on Monday. Students should have been working on the reviews as they went along through the chapter. Continue practicing the multiplication table; we are now doing long division, and exponents. Help the kids to be patient with these specific and detailed processes.

FIFTH GRADE - Mrs. Schatte: It's the last week of January already! Time flies when you're having fun! Please read my FastDirect Bulletin Board concerning important information about math and social studies. Tests this week include spelling and reading on Friday. Yesterday we took language test 5. Memory due next Thursday, February 4, is Matthew 28:18-20. Blessings on your week!

MIDDLE SCHOOL 2/10 7:30 FLSCA 2/20 8th & 9th Grade Pepperette Winter Dance, 7:00, Hutchins

Mrs. Goll: Proportions, scale drawings, combining like terms, solving linear equations with three different methods, and percentages are keeping the math room hopping! Ask your student to show you his latest work in math. FLS will be entering a MathCounts team in the regional competition on February 13. Good luck to Alex, Trenton, Ryan, & David as they represent us in that competition.

Mrs. Harbeson: Hello! I hope you all are doing well. It's a busy place around the middle school these days! I want to thank all of our parent volunteers who help keep the place running. You all are the best! Just a few reminders this week...eighth grade students, please be aware that you will be taking your AR test on Freak the Mighty on Tuesday, February 2. 7th grade projects should be in full swing. This Friday will be a work day during class. Please bring what you have completed so far so I can see that you've started and are progressing. 6th grade students are diligently working on their new grammar unit and are reading in Esperanza Rising. Keep up the good work! Blessings on the rest of your week!

Mrs. Hanson: This week, we will have a normal quiz of entire concepts. These quizzes will be Wednesday for all classes.

The Spring Musical will be here before you know it! The ENTIRE middle school is performing in the spring musical, entitled "Dr. Newheart's Neck-up Check-up". All students are expected at both performances, April 29. So please block out that date now! This is always an awesome opportunity to highlight awesome gifts God has given our students and to work together as one huge team.

We are very sad to say goodbye to an awesome young man, Trey Harper. He will be moving and we will miss him greatly in the classroom, on the court, as a student, and as a friend. Blessings on your new adventure Trey!

4 Growing up Into Jesus, Reaching Out with Jesus, Walking Together in Jesus

Mr. Covert: Everything is moving right along here at FLS! We had an exciting week last week, including the Geography Bee; congratulations to our winner, Alex Lin, and congratulations to everyone who competed!

As far as classes go, we’re continuing right along. In 8th grade, we’re finishing up the actual split of our country into two nations in the 1860s. 7th grade is looking at Western Europe, and the influences they’ve had on us, and vice-versa. 6th grade is finishing up the history of the Roman Empire, and we’re going to move into the culture and day-to-day life of the people living in that time.

I pray that God blesses us all with health in this season of sickness, and continues to bless everyone in the FLCS family in the work that we do in His name!
