As many of you already know, the Scrip program has been improved SO MUCH that you may not have to pay

tuition at all! If you are unfamiliar with Scrip, it is a program in which you buy, at face value, certificates for many

of the stores and businesses where you already shop. You receive a credit anywhere from 2% - 18% of the dollar

value, and half of that is applied directly to your CFC tuition and fees. Families are earning enough to pay their

ENTIRE CFC bill, and summer is a great time to accumulate credit in this way, with groceries, gas, pizza, movies

and much more! You could have a significant portion of your bill paid off before CFC classes begin in the fall. To

get started, please use the instructions here: http://www.tcces.org/scrip.html.

We are always very open to hearing your thoughts about what is going well, or how we could seek to improve our

ministry to the families of our parish. Your ideas and suggestions are welcome.

As with any question, concern or comment, please feel free to contact us. We will have a summer presence in the

CFC, so we can respond to you in a timely fashion. Know that it is our privilege and blessing to be able to serve

your family through our parish ministry. May God grant you a safe, healthy and fun-filled summer.

Yours in Christ,

The St. Gabriel CFC Team

Tuition Form—2018-2019

Dear CFC Families,

As you are probably aware, the vast majority of our ministry of educating young people through the CFC program is funded by general

donations to the parish. In other words, a significant percentage of the weekly collection at Mass helps to make possible the classes,

textbooks, materials, staffing, sacrament preparation and other special events for the faith development of our children and families.

Obviously many of those who contribute to the parish do not have children or grandchildren in the CFC program, but they see this

ministry as essential to the life of our parish and the future of our faith.

The actual cost to educate a student in the CFC program is $385

The tuition charged per student to offset this cost is $135.00 ($10 Reg. Fee & Sacrament fees are extra)

The remaining amount subsidized by St. Gabriel Parish is $250 per student.

We understand financial situations can make it difficult to pay tuition in full. If you find this a financial hardship, please complete the

simple request for assistance included at the bottom of this letter.

We will need this form to be returned for ALL families—whether you are seeking tuition assistance or not—in order for your

registration to be considered complete for the 2018-19 CFC year. This information is completely confidential, but in the big picture will

help us to be better stewards of the gifts entrusted to us by all parish members. Please submit this form with your registration for 2018-

19.

CFC Volunteer Form 2018-2019

The Christian Formation Center needs many volunteers to make our mission successful. In any given year, we need about sixty volunteers to serve as catechists (teachers), aides, hall monitors and other roles in the elementary grades (1-6). In the upper grades (7-11), we seek small group leaders for those sessions. All volunteers are supported by the professional staff of the CFC Office. We provide resources and materials for all classes.

Please take a few minutes and sign up to help in some capacity. Thank you for your generosity and your support!

Dear Parents of Students in Grades 7/8, “My dear young people, may your search (for Jesus) be motivated not simply by intellectual curiosity but be stimulated above all by an inner urge to find the answer to the question about the meaning of your life.” Saint John Paul II. This beautiful prayer and exhortation from Saint John Paul II will come to fruition and be given vitality next year as your student will enter/continue into the EDGE ministry. This ministry will aide them in continuing to grow as a disciple of Christ and cultivate a personal relationship with Him. “Edge is a Catholic middle school youth ministry program. It provides a safe fun place for youth to find solid Catholic community, to get answers to their questions about faith, and, most importantly, to experience Jesus in a profound and personal way. Edge resources speak to the physical, psychological, cognitive, relational, and spiritual maturation of middle school youth.” (EDGE website). Edge will meet Wednesday evenings from 5:30-7:00 pm 3 weeks per month. Please note there will not be a Monday night session for 7/8th graders. The programming and presentation for EDGE is much more than just a class to go over content. Central to faith formation is the opportunity for our young people to encounter Christ in our gathering. It is essential that we help them cultivate their friendship with the Person of Christ, not just a class, a program or an institution. EDGE, when implemented, will model the four major movements of the Mass: Gather, Proclaim, Break, and Send. We will first gather as a community with an ice breaker or other opening activity. We will hear the Proclaim; this mirrors the Liturgy of the Word. The Proclaim will be shared by Brittany, the Youth Minister, or a member of the core team. Then teens will be split into small groups and break apart from the large group to further discuss the teaching. This Break mirrors the Liturgy of the Eucharist and the breaking of the bread. Finally, teens regather as a large group for the Send. This will include various prayer dynamics. Teens are then sent forth back into their school communities and families to share and evangelize with others. This mirrors the closing prayer and how we are sent out as disciples to spread God’s love to those we encounter in our daily lives. In order to help our 7th graders dive into this ministry, we will have a welcome night just for them. Our 8th grade friends will join for the official kick off a week later! :) Please use the enclosed family registration form to enroll your child. If you are interested in helping out as a small group leader on the core team, please indicate that on the Volunteer Form enclosed. There will be additional training in the late summer as well as ongoing support throughout the year to help you become a confident and authentic core team member. Please know that if you have a passion for spending time with middle-schoolers, that is the most important thing and to not be alarmed by the word training! Core team members will not be responsible for giving a 90 minute lecture every week! Small group leaders will be asked to lead 20-30 minute small group discussions based on the teaching each week as one of their primary responsibilities. It’s a good opportunity to be involved in your child’s religious education (and really, you’re making a great impression on the young people, regardless of what they might say—or not say, for that matter!). Another way to become involved includes serving as a back-up small group leader. We all know unexpected events, family emergencies, obligations, and other tasks can arise in our weekly calendars. When such an event happens for a member of the core team, it is important to have another caring adult to step into their place and lead their small group of teens for the night. If this role interests you, please indicate it on the registration form.

Moreover, St. Paul tells us in his letter to the Thessalonians to pray without ceasing (5:17). This year I am asking for adults to come forward as prayer warriors. In this role, I ask you to pray for a group of teens in the EDGE program specifically, as well as their small group leader, each week. I will send you the list of your small group to pray for in September once we kick off. Prayer is pivotal in leading teens closer to Christ. If you would like to be a prayer warrior, please indicate on the registration form. Please feel free to contact me anytime at 725-0660 with any questions/concerns. I look forward to meeting your family in September! Prayerfully yours, Brittany Schoeder Faith Formation Coordinator (Grades 7-11) Youth Minister

Dear Parents of High School Students, “It is Jesus who stirs in you the desire to do something great with your lives. . .the courage to commit yourselves humbly and patiently to improving yourselves and society, making the world more human and more fraternal.” Saint John Paul II. As high school is a time of great growth academically, socially, and emotionally, it is also a great time of spiritual growth. As teens enter into the high school ministry, we will continue to utilize a variety of methods and activities to help them cultivate a personal relationship with Jesus and learn what this simply means. Teens will meet in a large group as a way of building community and fellowship with one another, as well as spend time in small groups to discuss and articulate their understanding of the Catholic faith; this will allow them time to break open the teachings in a safe environment where they can dive deeper with a group of their peers. Each session we meet teens will also be given the opportunity for personal prayer. Freshman and sophomores will meet together on Sunday evenings from 6-7:30 pm two times per month. In addition to their sessions on site at St. Gabriel, high school teens will be given more responsibility and are asked to complete a total of 7 hours of “Faith in Action” hours (and write a short reflection on their experience). These opportunities and encounters will enable them to begin taking a more active role in their faith journey. Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI once stated “The world calls you to comfort but you were not made for comfort. You were made for greatness.” It is my prayer that these “Faith in Action” hours will help teens live out this admonition; to stretch themselves outside of their comfort zones and truly start walking the path of discipleship in a new and profound way. These encounters will also be helpful as they journey toward the sacrament of confirmation as juniors. Lastly, these 7 hours will fulfill the required amount of hours set by the diocese and allow teens to learn about the Catholic faith outside of a regular class session. A list of options to fulfill these “Faith In Action” hours will be listed with the yearly calendar. Moreover, if you are interested in walking alongside our teens and sharing the beauty of the faith with them, please contact me and we can discuss the role of a small group leader. Another way to become involved includes serving as a back-up small group leader. We all know unexpected events, family emergencies, obligations, and other tasks can arise in our weekly calendars.
