Heritage Centre and “Depot” Division launch “SEND YOUR BOSS TO RCMP BOOT

CAMP”

REGINA—The RCMP Heritage Centre today

launched a new fundraiser it will be holding in partnership with RCMP “Depot” Division,

June 9 & 10, 2013. “Send Your Boss to

RCMP Boot Camp” gives people the chance to send their boss, or anyone they would like

to nominate, to train as an RCMP Cadet for a

day.

Fundraisers must raise a minimum of $2,500 in donations to qualify to send a recruit to

RCMP Boot Camp. The top 24 fundraisers -

those who have raised the most funds- will

secure a recruit position in “A” Troop, the first full civilian troop to be formed by the

RCMP Heritage Centre and hosted by RCMP

Academy “Depot” Division (“Depot”), where RCMP members have been training since

1885.

“We are very excited, and so tremendously

grateful, that “Depot” has agreed to host this event for us. So often when people visit our

Centre they show not only a profound interest

in the history of the Force and its role in shaping this great country, but also in modern

day policing and what happens in training.

Our staff and volunteers do a great job at

interpreting the training through exhibits, state of the art multi-media presentations and actual

tours of “Depot” grounds, but rarely

do people, other than cadets get

to actually live the experience. This Boot camp will provide a unique opportunity to actually

live that experience,” RCMP Heritage Centre

CEO Al Nicholson said.

“A” Troop will experience 24+ hours of cadet life, including an overnight stay in a cadet

dorm on the grounds of “Depot” located in

Regina, Saskatchewan.

“This is not something just anyone gets to do,” RCMP Assistant Commissioner Roger Brown

said. “This is a once in a lifetime opportunity

these individuals get to have.”

Final donations and recruit information must be submitted no later than end of business day

May 9, 2013.

All proceeds raised will support programs and

activities at the RCMP Heritage Centre, a non-profit charitable organization mandated to tell

the story of the Royal Canadian Mounted

Police. RCMP Boot Camp is another experiential way to tell that story.

Continued ERIC ROY, BEAUVAL

Saskatchewan. He actually left home at the age of 14 to play a

season of midget hockey in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, before

joining the Wheat Kings.

Roy’s rookie season in Brandon, however, had its ups and downs.

A concussion and a couple of other injuries limited him to 49

games during the 2010-11 campaign. He had 19 points and just

four goals that year.

He really started getting some recognition during his sophomore

season. He was also named the Wheat Kings’ most improved

player last season.

Though most people take note of one’s goal and assists totals,

Roy is also trying his best to take care of business in his end of the

rink as well.

“We’ve been harping about that,” he said about defensive play.

“D-zone is one of the most important parts of hockey.”

Thus it’s a good thing that he enjoys neutralizing opponents.

“I try to be physical,” he said. “And I try to throw my weight

around.”

Roy tips the scales at 187 pounds these days. He’d like to get up

closer to the 200-pound mark by draft day next June.

That’s a challenge, however, considering the grueling 72-game

WHL regular season schedule.

“It’s definitely tough (to put on weight during the season),” he

said. “You just have to drink lots of water and eat lots of protein.”

Detention Policy

Dear Parents/Guardians,

This letter is to inform you that Valley View School will be reinstating the detention policy

for minor infractions of behavior. We are

targeting one behavior at a time, the first

being leaving the class/school grounds without permission.

The first offense results in a fifteen

minute after school detention in the grade

6 room. You will be contacted before the end of the day that your child is serving a

detention.

If the student does not show up for his/her

detention, parents will again be contacted, and the detention will be served the

following day. As well, extracurricular

privileges will be suspended for one week.

If the second detention is missed, the

student may not return to school without

an accompanying parent or guardian.

We appreciate your support in helping us stop

this and other negative behaviors. As you

know, it is a real safety concern when teachers

are not aware of their students’ location, in case of fire or other such events.

Future behaviors will be added as students

become familiar with the process. They are:

Defiance to teachers Disrespect to others

Chronic lateness

Inappropriate language Property misuse

Cell phone/Telecommunication usage

Throwing objects

The detention policy began on Tuesday,

November 6, 2012 for grades K-9

Defenseman Eric Roy, Métis, Is a Top National Hockey

League Prospect

Eric Roy continues to make a name for himself in

Canadian junior hockey circles.

As a result it’s little surprise the 17-year-old

Métis is being projected as an early pick for the

2013 National Hockey League Entry Draft next

June.

Roy, a 6-foot-3 defenseman, is currently in his

third season with the

Manitoba-based Brandon

Wheat Kings, members of the

Western Hockey League

(WHL).

Besides his size, pro scouts

are also raving about Roy’s

offensive abilities and his

physical play. He’s earned 11

points, including three goals,

in Brandon’s first 18 matches

this season.

A year ago Roy collected 53

points in 69 matches. But he

said he had not established

any point total that he is

aiming to reach this season.

“I just try to keep things

simple,” he said. “I just want

to help this team win some

hockey games. And hopefully

we can go pretty far in the

playoffs.”

Since this is Roy’s NHL draft

season, his future in the game is undoubtedly also

on his mind.

“I try to keep my game simple and I try not to

think about it,” he said.

But that can be somewhat challenging at times.

Especially when others constantly bring up the

fact this is his draft year. Roy admits a day rarely

goes by without him hearing about the draft.

“It’s brought up all the time,” he said. “But like

I said, I try not to think about it.”

Roy has seen or heard about the various draft

rankings that are out there. The majority of these

rankings believe he will be a late first-round

pick at the draft, which will be staged June 28-

29 in New Jersey.

Though many predict he’s

capable of being a first-

rounder, Roy is not

entirely satisfied with his

projected place in the

draft.

“I try not to focus on it

too much,” he said. “I just

want to work hard. And

hopefully I can get a little

higher (in the rankings).”

At this point Roy said he

does not have a

preference whether he

gets drafted by a

Canadian or American

franchise.

“It doesn’t matter,” he

said. “Just to get drafted

would be really nice.”

Regardless of which club

drafts him, Roy has two

sea s ons of j un i or

eligibility remaining after

this current campaign. And he anticipates

returning to Brandon for at least one more

season of grooming.

“I think I’ll be back here again next year,” he

said. “I’ve got lots of things to work on.”

Roy is playing about 1,000 kilometres (600

miles) from his hometown of Beauval,

This letter is to inform you that Valley View School will be reinstating the detention policy

for minor infractions of behavior. We are

targeting one behavior at a time, the first

being leaving the class/school grounds without permission.

The first offense results in a fifteen

minute after school detention in the grade

6 room. You will be contacted before the end of the day that your child is serving a

detention.

If the student does not show up for his/her

detention, parents will again be contacted, and the detention will be served the

following day. As well, extracurricular

privileges will be suspended for one week.

If the second detention is missed, the

student may not return to school without

an accompanying parent or guardian.

We appreciate your support in helping us stop

this and other negative behaviors. As you

know, it is a real safety concern when teachers

are not aware of their students’ location, in case of fire or other such events.

Future behaviors will be added as students

become familiar with the process. They are:

Defiance to teachers Disrespect to others

Chronic lateness

Inappropriate language Property misuse

Cell phone/Telecommunication usage

Throwing objects

The detention policy began on Tuesday,

November 6, 2012 for grades K-9

Residents of Beauval After our Local was contacted be representatives of

Saskatchewan Environment and the family of the late

George Hansen I was persuaded to write to the Minister of

Saskatchewan Environment.

This letter was to request the Dore Lake Winter Portage

trail be re-designated to “The George Hansen Dore Lake

Winter Portage Trail.” And after a few weeks I have received a letter from the minister of Saskatchewan

Environment. This letter basically states we can start

calling this portage “The George Hansen Dore Lake Winter Portage Trail” effective immediately.

The condition is the trail cannot “officially” change in

seconds at Saskatchewan Environment until George Hansen has been deceased for 5 years. However, this is a

nebulous statement as we’ve also concurrently received

the approval from the Saskatchewan Environment Ministry to start calling this trail as mentioned above.

I thank the Minister and the officials from Saskatchewan

Environment for their respect towards the late George

Hansen and their respect towards George and his commitment at providing a safe trail for his fellow fishers

annually as they trekked to Dore Lake. George died

performing his volunteer work to ensure his fellow fishers arrived safe at their winter fishing cabin. George will be

forever missed!
