TitlePhotodesign Project

DescriptionPhotoshop Design of our own choosing. This design was centered on books, reading and imagination.

Programs Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator

DateOctober 17, 2015

CourseCOMM 130-11

InstructorEmily Kunz

ObjectivesTo learn basic photography skills and how to choose a color scheme that best fit the photo. We needed to shoot original photos, crop, and layer shapes and designs.

ProcessThe project began with trying to determine which color scheme would work best for my design. Honestly, I spent to much time thinking about that and could not come to a conclusion. So, I decided to go out and find something that was interesting to me and took a lot of photos. I wanted to capture several of the important elements in the picture. I felt that light was critical, mixed with depth of field and overall general composition.

Once the photo was complete, I was able to find a theme, or message to associate with the photo. This took shape into what the final image looked like.

ObjectivesI learned a great deal about layers and overlays. It became very apparent that as you started to experiment with the various layers, that you could come up with some very creative results. It was a great week for learning.

ProcessWe were instructed to only use Photoshop, camera, or website to select the images used in the project.

TitleLogos Project

DescriptionThis was an exercise in learning to create a company logo that we were asked to do.

Programs Adobe Illustrator

ObjectivesWe had to come up with a logo for a company of our choice. It could not be previous work we had done. We were only allowed to use Illustrator. The logo needed to be creative, but get across the the message of the company. Branding was key.

ProcessI took the time to sketch several different ideas of what might work. The most difficult process was simply coming up with a concept, or company that I wanted to create a logo for. Once I had an idea of what I wanted to do, my efforts turned to illustrator. I outlined a real snorkel, and used it as the the “B” in the name of the company. Then I decided to create a back drop that looked like the word scuba was under water, with the snorkel of the “B” above the water as it would be in the real world of snorkeling. I then gave it different color spins.

ObjectivesWe needed to learn the process of coordinating a design that could repeat itself across all publications. The intent is to learn the branding process for a company.

ProcessI started out working with just drawing shapes of the paw print and then used several different colors to see what would stand out. This it dawned on me, with the suggestion from a classmate, to put a circuit board in the design somewhere. That is when the idea to combine the circuit board into the shape of the footprint. I was able to use illustrator for creating the paw print and then combining the circuit board with the paw print.

This is how I create the paw logo, and used it for the letterhead logo, and watermarked the paw in the lower right corner of the letterhead.

I was able to take the paw design and put the logo, with the company name on one side of the card, and the contact info on the other side. I replicated the watermark from the letterhead.

ObjectivesLearn how to create a better visual flow with more impact and interest.

ProcessThe first thing I had to do was create four different sketches of ideas for my flier. These sketches were designed to brainstorm various ways in which I could organize the elements of the event. They allowed me to test elements for contrast, repetition of parts and color ideas. The final design was chosen from these four sketches and then finding ways to simplify the design to give it the most impact.

TitleEvent Ad Project

Descriptionhis was a Word document that required us to use only the features within Word to generate an advertisement to an event of our choice.

ObjectivesHow to work with scanning images and how that effects the sizing. This was the primary goal, but learning the powerful features in Microsoft Word was the other objective of this week.

ProcessThe first thing we had to do was come up with our own ideas of what kind of event or initiative we wanted to support. We could only use Microsoft Word to create this document. We were required to find at least one photo, scan it into a .jpg image, and inserting this into our Word document. The image had to be 300dpi. Once we did this, we had to use the FOCUS principles while being creative in what we wanted to design for this event.

ObjectivesThis webpage was created to showcase the logo I created earlier in the semester. It includes, but is not limited to, the process of creating the logo, rationale for color choices, appeal to target audience, and design skills. We then had to create a webpage that incorporated the logo with content.

ProcessThe first thing I had to do was make sure the logo was created as a .png file for the webpage. Then we had to work with html and css to make sure the page would display on the internet, and work with the css features to make sure the formatting was exact to the specificiations given.
