Dear Friends

S o here we are at the beginning of another year and I wonder what

are your dreams for 2017? Are you just hoping it will be better than last year or do you have a special event to look forward to or plans for doing things differently? January is the month for looking for-ward – to making our new year resolu-tions and hoping they will last at least until February! Perhaps to eat more healthily; do more exercise; learn that new skill; renew a friendship or recon-cile a relationship. For the Christian, we can resolve to strengthen our faith through a renewed and regular prayer life. There are so many creative and imaginative ways in which we can do that today. Some of us will remember the use of the senses through the Prayer stations in the MSI course and how these helped us to draw close to God through sight, sound, touch and taste. Many people find much value in prayer walks, in prayer trees or in the use of stones and beads and holding crosses. At the beginning of a new year there is an opportunity to look for and be enriched by God’s presence in every-day things. Some people find much help in recording moments of close-ness with God each week using photos

I n a Law Court setting, a testimony is a statement, written or oral, about

what a person believes to be true about a particular situation. Therefore, in our church context, a testimony is a state-ment about what a Christian person believes to be true about God. All Christians should be able to do that in their own way as they grow in their relationship with God through Jesus and discover more about Him. If we look to the New Testament, Jesus uses another courtroom word to talk about testimony. ‘You shall be my witnesses’. A witness is someone who is called to tell the truth about what they have ex-perienced. The two words, testimony and witness, are virtually interchange-able! So why do people find it so difficult? Firstly, they don’t like public speaking so it is difficult to speak in worship. Why not try writing something about what God is doing in your life? Secondly, they don’t like talking about themselves. It might sound as though

or by journaling their experiences. In that way we can discover that God speaks to us in so many different ways and that prayer is much more than words. So we are opened up to the creative power and mystery of the God of Jesus in a new way. I hope you will join us for our monthly Bible study and Prayer gath-erings this year. The first will be held at Ermine church on Monday, January 9th at 7.30 pm. No bible knowledge is required and everyone is welcome. Yes, it’s true - I have been Minister in Lincoln now for a whole year and I am very grateful for the welcome and support and fellowship from around the churches! I have been privileged to journey with you on the joyful occasions but also in the sadness and losses we have encountered along the way. I am reminded that as we hold one another up in prayer the God of love and hope is made real and walks with us. May I wish you all a Happy New Year with many bless-ings in 2017! Sally

Why pray ? Pray because God is listening. Pray because God understands. Pray because God cares. Pray because God is great enough to carry us through all we have to endure. Pray because talking with God eventually brings that sense of the wholeness of God surrounding us and comforting and settling us, as a parent holds a child with loving arms and gives the reassurance of caring. Pray. God is waiting to hear you. Marjorie Dobson

they are blowing their own trumpet. Thirdly, they don’t feel they have had a dramatic experience, so they feel somehow inferior. We need to remem-ber that God does indeed move in a variety of ways. The twelve disciples simply responded to the invitation ‘Come, follow me.’ There were no flashing lights or dramatic appear-ances! And fourthly, they believe that their Christian faith is private and don’t want to talk about it. But Jesus told us we need to be witnesses. Chris-tianity was never meant to be private. It was meant to be personal. So why are testimonies so important? They are important because they are personal testimonies of how God is alive and active in the world today. A Christian testimony can be a most powerful witness – probably far more powerful than many sermons! People want to know if the Christian faith works and they want to see the evidence. (Revd Stephen Robinson)

'Somebody has said there are only two kinds of people in the world. There are those who wake up in the morn-ing and say, “Good morning, Lord,” and there are those who wake up in the morn-ing and say, “Good Lord, it’s morning.”

The theme for 2017 is :- Reconciliation –

The Love of Christ Compels Us (2 Corinthians 5:14-20)

Why pray? When health is fragile – your own or others’ – and the burden of care is heavy and the possibility of a cure is only a dream; or someone dies and leaves an empty void and the predominance of sorrow and suffering overwhelms – don’t believe that all is lost........Pray

“GREEN” Milk bottle tops required.

I have recently started attending the Lincoln Life After Stroke Team and they are supporting a group in Dunholme who are sending shoe boxes to Eastern Europe and Africa. One thing they try to put into each box is a game of noughts and crosses.

This is made up by a card divided into nine squares and nine green milk bottle tops (on which are drawn a nought or a cross). So please could you save your plastic bottle tops for me to take down to the club. Thank you, Neil Caldwell

Thank you to everyone who came along to our create a nativity workshop on Saturday 10th December. We had a busy time and

the resulting figures were super. People have such wonderful imaginations and ideas. The church was decorated with all the nativities for our Carol Service on Sunday and created a lovely atmosphere to add to the dance, drama and singing of carols.

Why pray? When money becomes a problem, the lack of it or the love of it, and work is arduous or unavailable, and the bills keep coming and prices keep rising - don’t despair of a solution.......Pray.

Christmas Market This year the weather was kinder to us than last when high winds caused the cancellation of the Artists' Market in St Martin's Square and old graveyard. We had the stall-holders popping in on the Friday for takeaways and at the suggestion of one of them on the Saturday, we

provided them with a delivery service of refreshments. This helped to boost our takings and increase our footfall, to the benefit of this year's nominated charity. After expenses etc we made a sum slightly in excess of £1600. A wonderful amount. Being busier this year had some of us remarking that it was like "old times". It gets more difficult each year to find a different way of say-ing "Thank you" to everyone who played a part in the team effort, but it is sincerely meant when said. So.....THANK YOU for all the work that was put in to Trinity's contribution to this year's Christ-mas Market outreach to visitors. SLB
