NEED MORE FORAGE? Try alternative forages for grazing, haying orensiling. Summer annuals can produce highvolumes of biomass, and some forages can extendgrazing seasons well into the winter.
ATTENTION PRODUCERS:To be considered for NRCS assistance, producersmust apply through their local NRCS office by JULY 8, 2019.
Producers may receive a waiver to plant covercrops before funding is approved. The waiver doesnot guarantee funding will be approved; farmersplant at their own risk.
Producers planting a summer cover crop have avariety of options based on preferences and seedavailability. Due to anticipated livestock feedshortage, NRCS is authorizing cover crop optionsincluding forage crops such as corn for silage.Summer cover crops will improve water quality bycontrolling erosion & benefit 2020 crops byreducing soil compaction, controlling weeds, andretaining soil nutrients.
Producers considering cover crops should checkwith crop insurance agent, USDA RiskManagement Agency and Farm Service Agencyregarding restrictions for haying, grazing andharvesting cover crops on prevented plantingfields.
