 Dawson College, in conjunction with the Educational Society for Resource Management, - (APICS Montreal) offers a five-module series of courses in Production and Inventory Management. The objective of the courses is to facilitate success ful certification exam preparation for the CPIM- “Certified in Production and Inventory Management” designation. The program enables employees to gain technical and functional know-how, as well as the confidence to enh ance their job performance. Participants will u nderstand ho w to deliver products and services Just-in-Time, streamline operations through accurate forecasting, and manage all aspects of the supply chain. Upon completion of the program participants will be able to demonstrate increased production and inventory management technical knowledge to the employer, demonstrate confidence in their ability to contribute to the organization’s success, gain peer and industry recognition for their professional abilities, and establish study skills, professional growth, and self-assessment skills that last a lifetime. The CPIM program is composed of the following courses: 1. Basics of Supply Chain Management 2. Master Planning of Resources 3. Detailed Scheduling and Planning 4. Execution and Control of Operations 5. Strategic Management of Resources. Each course consists of 27 hours of instruction, with the exception of “Basics of Supply Chain Management”; which consists of 30 hours of instruction. Upon completion of each course, CPIM candidates can schedule an appointment to write their certification exam. Students must obtain an APIC S Customer number from AP ICS at 1(800) 444-APICS if they are n ot members. To register for an exam, call ASI customer service at 1(800) 274-8399. The APICS C ustomer nu mber or Member nu mber is required.  ASI will register the student at the Computer Based Testin g (CBT) site in Montreal. All five CPIM exams are administered by computer and offered throughout the year. Specific dates and hours of operation vary per site. The exams are given at: Montreal Polar Bear Center, 800 René Lévesque, Suite #990, Montreal. Please note, stu dents may not c ommunicate directly w ith the test site. They must call ASI for all changes or other in formation. Registration may also be done by internet by accessing the APICS site at http://www.apics.org/ certification/CPIM/domestic.htm or the ASI site at http:/ /www.asisvcs. com. Each exam costs $110U.S. for members and $145U.S . for non-members. Upon successful completion of these five modules and examinations, participants will receive their CPIM designation . BASICS OF SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT

This course is a prerequisite to the other modules of the CPIM program. It introduces thekey concepts that are covered in greater detail in those modules.

Developed to fulfill the need for fundamental education in manufacturing and resourcemanagement, this course presents a complete overview of the planning and control of theflow of materials into and out of an organization. Participants will develop a betterunderstanding of the various components of the entire manufacturing enterprise and howthey fit together.

Topics include: •  introduction to materials management,•  forecasting,

•  master planning,•  material requirements planning,•  capacity management and production activity control,•  inventory fundamentals,•  inventory management,•  physical distribution,•  quality management and purchasing,•  Just-in-Time manufacturing.

*This course consists of 30 hours of classroom instruction. The passing grade is 60% overall.*

MASTER PLANNING OF RESOURCES

In this course, students will explore the processes used to develop sales and operations plans,identify and assess internal and external demand and forecasting requirements and affect anachievable master schedule consistent with business policies, objectives and resourceconstraints. The course focuses on developing and validating a plan of supply, relatingmanagement of demand to the environment, and developing and validating the masterschedule.

Topics include:•  concepts for transforming sales, marketing and business requirements into a feasible

and economic operations plan in various business environments,•  concepts and methodologies for managing projected and actual demands from

distribution networks and external customers,

•  methods for integrating sales and operations plans, demand forecasts and customerdemand into a specific master schedule.

DETAILED SCHEDULING AND PLANNING

This course is focused on material and capacity scheduling and planning. It includes adetailed explanation of material requirements planning (MRP), a technique suitable for use

in job shops. In addition the course introduces another material planning technique,material-dominated scheduling, which is applicable to process industries and other matureproduction environments.

Topics include:•  capacity requirements planning,•  capacity-planning techniques,•  processor-dominated scheduling.

EXECUTION AND CONTROL OF OPERATIONS

This course focuses on three main areas: prioritizing and sequencing work; executing workplans, implementing controls and reporting activity results; and evaluating and providingfeedback on performance. This course explains techniques for scheduling and controllingproduction and process operations.

Topics include:•  quality initiatives and continuous improvement plans,•  controlling and handling inventories,•  techniques for evaluating performance and collecting data for effective feedback.

STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT OF RESOURCES

For maximum comprehension of course content, students should be familiar with theinformation and concepts presented in other CPIM modules before taking this course.

In this course students will explore the relationship of existing and emerging processes andtechnologies to manufacturing strategy and supply-chain related functions.

Topics include:

•  aligning resources with the strategic plan,•  configuring and integrating operating processes to support the strategic plan,•  implementing change.

Registration: Participants may register up to 7 working days prior to the start of a coursein any one of the following ways: 

In person: Register at the Centre for Training & Development at 4001 de

Maisonneuve West, Room 2G.1, Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.

By phone: Participants may register by telephone with the use of a MasterCard or Visa, by calling (514) 933-0047, Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.

By fax: To register by fax, simply fax the registration form to the Centre for Training& Development at (514) 937-3832. Payment must be made by either MasterCard or

 Visa.

By mail: If you wish to register by mail simply use the registration form. Payment bymail can be made with MasterCard, Visa, money order or certified check madepayable to Dawson College. Please do not send cash in the mail. Payments should bemailed to Dawson College 4001 de Maisonneuve West, Room 2G.1, Attention RoulaKoutsoumbas, Montreal, QC, H3Z 3G4.

Payment:  Payment must be made in full upon registration by MasterCard, Visa, moneyorder, certified check, cash or Interac. Certified checks and money orders should be madepayable to Dawson College. Personal checks are not accepted. Please note, prices are subjectto change without notice.

Memberships: Participants who are members of APICS or MQQ (Mouvement québécois dela qualité) will be given a reduction of fees (see schedule in this pamphlet).

Receipts: Tuition fees of $100.00 or more are tax deductible. Official receipts for this yearwill be mailed in February of next year. Note that receipts are sent to the address listed onyour registration form. To ensure that tax receipts are sent to the proper location, pleasenotify the Centre for Training & Development of any address changes.

Withdrawals:  Fees are non-refundable. Participants must withdraw prior to 5 workingdays before the start of a course in order to receive a full credit toward a future course.Participants who officially drop a course for a valid reason before the second class has begunwill be entitled to a refund of 50%. In all other cases fees are non-refundable.

Cancellations: We reserve the right to cancel or reschedule on short notice. A course maybe cancelled or rescheduled if enrolment does not meet minimum requirements. In such acase, participants will be notified by phone as soon as possible and fees will be fully refunded.We do not accept any liability except for fees paid to Dawson College. 

Certificates:  Upon successful completion of the five modules and examinations,participants will receive their CPIM designation.
