Elifraf Curing Rack Styles Different capacities, dimensions and styles make each ELIFRAF curing rack unique. Capacities and dimensions are more or less defined by the throughput of the production equipment, the adequate style however is defined by the local circumstances, i.e. if a building is

available and big enough for the installation of the curing rack, and the needs of the later curing process. To give first information for the planning process, the general design principles and alternatives are illustrated on this and the following page.

Indoor or Outdoor?

For new concrete block factories, outdoor curing racks are regularly preferred, as they offer savings in regard of the investment and can be erected independ from the main production building and the work inside this building during the set-up phase of a plant. ELIFRAF offers complete

curing racks in outdoor design, including all steel structures, insulation walls, roofs and further accessories. At the same time, ELIFRAF provides testable statics regarding the special needs in seismic areas or regions with expectable higher wind or snow loads.

Indoor curing rack during installation phase and after the factory is completed

Indoor curing racks are installed in the same building than the main production equipment. This can be more economic if a building is available, however the curing rack must be isolated towards the production area to avoid loss of moisture and temperature.

Outdoor curing racks are installed separately from the main production building, as a separate “house”, including steel structure for the side walls and roof, insulated walls and other accessories.

Big Chamber or Individual Chamber? Cement hydration is the key process while curing concrete elements, and the both most important factors to grant a stable and efficient cement hydration are moisture and temperature, in other words, the climate inside the curing rack. There are several methods on the market to keep the climate inside the racks in a range, which is favorable for a stable and fast curing process as a base for the best quality of the end products. This methods are regularly a combination of adding moisture and temperature and keeping the climate as steady inside all areas of the rack and all phases of the curing time.

Whether a customer needs to use such methods at all, and if yes, which, is a consideration of technical and econo-mical aspects. In any case, the influence of the general design of the curing rack on the efficiency of the later process should not be underestimated. Therefore, it is important for the customer to know, that ELIFRAF curing racks can be offered in every style and layout, tailored to the special conditions and requirements on the customers side.

Curing racks in BIG CHAMBER design are the most economic solutions and can offer a uniform climate in all areas. Big Chamber styled racks need a certain relation between throughput of products to be cured and size and are preferable in concrete block factories with few product groups. The efficiency of Big Chamber racks can be increased, if the transportation equipment is installed inside the curing area (which needs special provisions on the equipment side). Big Chamber racks can be improved with air circulation or artificial climatisation equipment.

As it is easier to keep the climate uniform in smaller compartments, the separation of a curing rack into several chambers can be a considerable solution. As the smaller chambers which are the result of integration separation walls can be used to treat different products (type, age since production) individually, this style is very often called INDIVIDUAL CHAMBER design. To avoid the loss of humidity and temperature, the single chambers are to be closed with roller shutter doors after being filled. Also Individual Chamber racks can be equipped with air circulation and artificial climatisation, however the total investment is higher.

Elifraf – Technical Advantages The technical advantages, which rise ELIFRAF curing racks above the competition and make them to the better choice for your next project, are based on the practiced production methods. All single components of the curing rack (columns, pallet support profiles, base plates, binders and more) are manufactured from blank band steel. This keeps ELIFRAF independent from the limitation of market availabilities in regard of dimensions and shapes, so that the detailed rack design can be realized in the most efficient way.

This production method requires the necessary coating to protect the single component and with this the entire rack against corrosion after the fabrication of the components (cutting, bending, punching) has been completed. ELIFRAF achieves this with hot-dip galvanizing of all parts according to DIN/EN ISO 1461, with a thickness of at least 70µ. Depending on critical, project related factors (for example steam heating, usage of steel pallets or abrasive raw material) the thickness can be increased.

Only hot-dip galvanizing as coating process ensures that all edges, punches and openings of the curing rack components are protected against corrosion. ELIFRAF provides this method as a standard.

Elifraf – Technical Advantages

ELIFRAF produces the vertical columns of the curing racks with a V-shaped profile, with the effect of a reinforcement fin. This profile, which is unique on the market, results in columns with a significantly higher structural strength, but without the usage of more raw material. The advantage for the customer is two-fold:

The pallet support profiles are fixed to the vertical columns with a snap-in system. This is common usage in the design of curing racks, however ELIFRAF is the only producer who executes this system with two blades instead of one. This increases the strength of the connection without impacting the installation time, another detail, rising ELIFRAF curing racks above the products of other rack suppliers on the market.

The vertical columns are screwed to base plates, which are fixed with adjustable bolts to the concrete floor. The distance between these base plates and the floor is big enough to grant the easy leveling of the columns and the rails, which are welded to the same base plates, although if the floor is uneven. The screwed connection of the columns enables their safe replacement even after the concrete floor has been completely finished.
