Stewardship

My Friends in Christ,

Today, we gather as God’s people to celebrate the goodness and faithfulness of God, for He loves us so muchthat He is born today, Merry Christmas! Jesus Christ was born in a manger in the town of Bethlehem to let the worrejoiceEMMANUEL! GOD IS WITH US!

The wonderful event that took place 2000 years ago is remembered throughout the world today as we continue proclaim “Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace to those His favor rests.” God has chosen to become aperson and be that shining light of hope that brings liberty to the captive and healing to the brokenhearted. The Incnation is the awesome testament of God proclaiming to the world the depths of His love for us.

In this season of Christmas, we are called by our baptism to be disciples of Jesus Christ and proclaim this samefaithful love. Every member of Saint Andrew is called to share and witness that love through acts of charity, kindneand love. May each of us commit our lives to generous discipleship in this New Year.

I praise God in thanksgiving this Christmas Season for the wonderful blessings and joy that He brings me and mministry at St. Andrew Catholic Church. I hope this Christmas allows you to have both joy and peace with your famand friends. May the blessings and joy of Christmas be with you always.

In His Love,

Father Mike

During this Christmas season the many St. Andrew’s ministries havebeen involved in their many gifts of time, talent and treasure. TheKnights of Columbus along with the help of St. Vincent de Paul col-lected food items from parishioners and assembled food baskets for Thanksgiving and Christmas for the needy. The preschoolershelped by sorting the food items and the Faith Formation childrenmade seasonal cards for the baskets.

Students of Career Connections Academy which is an independentprogram here at St. Andrew that focuson individuals with disabilities)were involved by moving the food items and stocking shelves for St.Vincent de Paul and retrieving the gifts for the Giving Tree.

The American Heritage Girls brightened up the day at Roswell Nurs-ing Home by Christmas Caroling and the Champs, Edge and LifeTeens made fleece blankets to be handed out to families in the area.

Then St. Martin de Porres swung into action creating all the stars anhanging them on the Giving Tree. Many, many members of theparish were extremely generous with all the toys, clothing and giftcards for the needy of the area.

The Knights of Columbus also had a fundraiser with “Breakfast withSanta” As I hear it, fun was had by all.

The Women’s Guild, Parish Council and the Knights of Columbus pon a wonderful Parish Christmas Party with dinner and dancing. ThSquires all came together one Saturday evening and decorated theinterior and exterior of the rectory for the priests.

Before the preschoolers left for Christmas break, they had their Christmas Program “The Night Before Jesus” with the children singing Christmas Carols followed with a light reception with their parenand grandparents.

Many thanks to all parishioners, children and ministries who madethis Advent season such a caring, wonderful, anticipatory and joyfutime for so many people.

Finally, a special thanks to all the angels who helped decorate our beautiful sanctuary with the Nativity set, flowers and wreaths.

December 28December 28December 28December 28 th th th th, the Holy Innocents, the Holy Innocents, the Holy Innocents, the Holy InnocentsOn the fourth day after the birth of Christ, our Christmas joy is tempered by a feeling of sadness,as the Church celebrates the feast of the Holy In-nocents considered to be the first martyrs. Al-though martyrs die in witness to their belief in God,these babies died to save God.

Herod was the king in Judea at the time Christ was born. He was anunpopular king, because of his connections with the Romans, hisreligious indifference and his cruelty which knew no bounds. Whenhe heard the Magi was following the Star of Bethlehem and werelooking for the new King of the Jews, he asked these Wise Men toreport the whereabouts of this Child to him, so he could go to payhomage too.

The Magi found Jesus but, knowing of Herod’s heart after having it

revealed to them in a dream did not return to him. Thus, “whenHerod realized that he had been deceived by the Magi, he becamefurious. He ordered the massacre of all the boys in Bethlehem and its vicinity two years old and under, according to the time of whichhe had ascertained from the wise men” (Matthew 2:16).

As Bethlehem was small town, the number of these Holy Innocentswas probably no more than 25, very few, in comparison to the num-ber of babies killed by the abortion genocide of our day. Let us cele-brate all of them today as well!

OVERNIGHT SHELTER OVERNIGHT SHELTER OVERNIGHT SHELTER OVERNIGHT SHELTER St. Martin de Porres will once again feed the homeless at the coldweather shelters at the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception andCentral Presbyterian on Monday, January 2nd.

There are three ways to help: prepare food (we provide recipes),

serve the food at the shelters (only requires about 3 hours, usuallyhome between 8:30 & 9:00 PM), stay overnight until 6:30 am (safeatmosphere with private sleeping quarters). We have the most diffi-culty finding overnight volunteers, but it is really easy duty. Webreak the night up into watches, and since guests sleep between 9PM and 5:30 am, there is plenty of quiet time to catch up on read-

ing, paperwork, etc. The more volunteers we have, the more sleepwe get!

We try to carpool from St. Andrew and leave by 5:15, or you canmeet us downtown at the shelter. Eileen (Helena) Nelson will onceagain be coordinating the volunteers. Thanks Eileen!

Please e-mail [email protected] for moreinformation, or call the parish office.
