December Newsletter Dear Parents, It’s hard to believe that there are only 3 weeks of school left before the Christmas Holidays! It will be a busy 3 weeks, but with lots of fun activities. I again will try to keep this short as I continue to inform you of all that is happening via the website and Twitter feed. Please be sure to continue to look at the website’s Homepage on a daily basis as I continue to put up pictures, videos and important messages or information that you need to know. Math In Math, we continue to look at Measurement. We are learning about time to the nearest 5 minutes and will soon move on to Temperature. Please continue to ask your child to tell you what time it is using an analogue clock. Ask your child questions such as: “How many minutes have passed since 2:00?” and “How many more minutes will it take to get to 3:00?” We will be moving on to Data Management when we finish up with Measurement. Language We are presently finishing up our final writing piece for Descriptive Writing. This final project is to create a Missing Dog Poster. The children have to create an actual poster with large print and bright colours. They are describing their missing dog using the features that are important when writing a descriptive piece of writing (these features are posted on the blog page of the website). I will send the posters home when they are finished, along with some of their graded writing pieces. Please note that I do write a lot on their writing pieces. This is for the students, but it is also for you, so that you know how your child is doing and what steps they can take to improve their writing. The next style of writing that we will focus on is Persuasive Writing. December Newsletter

Dear Parents, It’s hard to believe that there are only 3 weeks of school left before the Christmas Holidays!

Math

In Math, we continue to look at Measurement.

Language

We are presently finishing up our final writing piece for Descriptive Writing.

Science

We are finishing up our unit on Soils with our test today and will proceed with the Forces Unit of the Science Curriculum.

Religion

We will be entering the first week of Advent this coming Sunday, December 3rd. We will have weekly Advent Liturgies in the gym with the rest of the school. We

will be talking a lot about the birth of Christ in the class and reading Bible stories along with other Christmas stories.

Angel Tree

We have kicked off our annual Angel Tree Campaign. If you would like your child to pick an angel from the tree in order to purchase a gift for a child in need, please give your child permission to do so in his/her agenda.

Christmas Concert

Our school Christmas concert for primary students will take place on Friday, December 22nd from 9:30-10:30. Our class will be performing with Mrs. Dohonick’s Grade 3 class. We are asking the children to bring their winter jacket, scarf, mittens, toque and boots to perform in. I think you will be impressed with their singing and dancing skills! Don’t miss it! It is going to be great. After the concert, I am planning to have a class party with the children. I will provide treats. If your child would like to bring in a board game that day, that would be great! I have not yet spoken to them about this, but I will let them know soon!

Important Dates

Wednesday, December 13th: All library books due back for the holidays Angel Tree gifts due back to school. Friday, December 22nd: Christmas Concert – Don’t miss it! Last day of school! With the cold weather upon us, I always ask the children to dress for outside with what they were sent to school with. If you would like your child to have the choice whether he/she wears his/her snow pants outside on a particular day, please send me a note in the agenda. I’d like to wish all of you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Thank you all for your support. I look forward to working with you in the New Year. Thank you for the pop cans. You will soon find out what they are for!

~Merry Christmas~
