Please note: don’t miss some highlights:

Vienna: After the official sightseeing, which is part of the program, do not miss the optional shore-excursion to Schönbrunn. This castle is the true symbol of the Habsburg Monarchy, giving a real glimpse into the life and glory of the past. In the evening, you can take a taxi and stroll around the city centre, have a cup of coffee in some of the various Viennese Cafés, or finally taste the original Sacher Torte; there are also an abundance of good jazz clubs opened till early morning hours. You can also choose to attend a Strauss concert, combined with a panoramic night-sightseeing of Vienna. Ask your guide for suggestions and possible booking or transfer possibilities.

Bratislava: After the sightseeing you can stroll around on your own and visit the adorable and original centre area around the Town Hall, where you can enjoy lots of people playing music in

the streets. Besides refreshing yourself with beverages, this is the place to ask for the original Slovakian Strudel (the famous tasty pie).

Budapest: In this city you truly have an abundance of options. After sightseeing you will have a lot of time in the city centre; you can visit the well-known Vaci street, a pedestrian zone full of small restaurants, souvenir shops, art galleries, and Zsolnay, Ajka, or Herend, where you will find the best pieces of Hungarian porcelain. Do not miss our night-sightseeing tour in the evening, where we will be visiting the top of the Buda Hill, the very heart of Budapest’s nightlife. This tour also includes a folklore performance in the Buda Vigado Theatre or Duna Palota building.

For the second day in Budapest, after visiting the picturesque village of Szentendre, we suggest another optional shore activity; a visit to the Museum of Fine Arts, one of the major

Page 17: Der Kleine Prinz - ABC on board!

19

art galleries in Central Europe. The exhibition is composed of many paintings and other works of art divided into several sections: “The Old Spanish” with Goya, Velasquez, Murillo, “The Old Masters” with Titian, Bronzino, Rafaelo, “French Impressionist” with Monet, Cezanne, Gauguin, Pissarro - it’s truly a paradise for art lovers!

We would also like to draw your attention to our optional shore excursion taking place the same afternoon, where we will head to a typical Hungarian puszta - Lazar Lovas Puszta. There will be very attractive horse taming, friendly and hospitable people, brandy tasting (the local “Palinka”), a visit to the horse-stables, along with various horse shows.

If you would like to visit a real “Charda” we suggest the “Marvanmanos”. Here you can enjoy typical Hungarian food accompanied with folk dance performances. For further information, please contact your Tour Leader, or your guide.

Pecs: Pecs is situated a mere 40 minute drive from the Hungarian port of Mohacs. With its 160.000 inhabitants, it became well

Page 20: Der Kleine Prinz - ABC on board!

20

known for its numerous attractive galleries, museums and historical remains; and it has there become known as “the city of the art lovers”. A Sightseeing of Pecs will include all mayor sites of the city, for instance the main Szecheni Square, Kaptalan street with its beautiful restored medieval houses, the Town hall, the Palace of Lorant, as well as inside visit to the main Cathedral, built in the 11th century, as a symbol of Pecs. Upon visiting the chapel and the catacombs (no entrance), we will be able to taste some of the original wines from the local wine cellar. After the sightseeing, there is free time in the main pedestrian zone, in Ferencesek Street, which is full of small shops and cafés.

Krusedol Monastery: The first actual contact with Serbia will be in the port of Novi Sad, the centre of the largest Serbian province Vojvodina. You will see the impressive view from Petrovaradin Fortress, the so called “Gibraltar of Danube”, followed by a bus drive to the Krusedol Monastery, situated in the neighbouring

Page 21: Der Kleine Prinz - ABC on board!

21

mountain Fruska Gora, famous for its fresco paintings from the 15th century.

Novi Sad: The third biggest city in the Republic of Serbia and the biggest cultural and historical centre of the Vojvodina region. It is one of the main historical ports on the Danube, and it attracts tourists by its vast amount of parks, restaurants and original shops; but most of all because of it’s monumental Petrovaradin Fortress, the “Gibraltar on Danube”, built in the 18th century. It extends across 112 hectares, and it is definitely worth seeing it.

Near by Novi Sad we will be visiting the wine cellar of family Zivanovic, who are well known for producing “Bermet” wine, which was in fact served to the courts of the Habsburg Monarchy and the Russian Tsars. Our hosts in the surrounding large garden will serve several sorts of “Bermet” wines and honey, which is also produced at the same farm. A visit to the large wine-cellars and the local Museum of Honey is something that should be considered.

The same evening at 9 p.m. or next day (depending on program) on board is a folklore show and a Fashion-show, featuring the Sirogojno knitwear. The local “Sirogojners” have gained acknowledgments worldwide for their work. There will also be a folklore dance show performed by a professional ensemble, “Talia”, from Belgrade.

Belgrade: We plan to spend an impressive day here, starting off with an interesting sightseeing; including a visit to the old Kalemegdan fortress. This is the first settlement of the so called “White City”, meaning the same as “Beograd” or “Belgrade”, in English. It dates from the 11th century and is situated where river Sava pours into the great Danube River. After strolling around the pedestrian zone in the centre of the city, lunch is going to be held in Jarak, a village near Belgrade, in a private home, where you will be entertained by family members and local musicians. Fresh, original homemade food is on the menu, sweets and season fruits picked from the

Page 23: Der Kleine Prinz - ABC on board!

23

nearby gardens; and of course, domestic, homemade slivovica and wine are ad libitum served on the tables. It might be a bit of a tough day, but an enjoyable one nevertheless.

Iron Gate: You should plan to be standing out on the Sunny Deck during the cruise day whilst passing the Iron Gate, which is a indeed a wonderful natural attraction – a more than 100 km long canon (gorge), surrounded by wild nature, where, at certain points in the gorge, the Danube is more than 80 meters deep.

Turnu Severin: After the sightseeing, you can take some time on your own (since the river port is basically in the city centre, there is no risk of getting lost.). You could visit the local green market that abounds in herbage and greens, as well as friendly and interesting local people. Here, there is always a chance of finding a very simple, yet original souvenir.

Page 24: Der Kleine Prinz - ABC on board!

24

Bucharest: After a long period of communist isolation, Bucharest has, during the past 10 years, turned into a “Romanian Paris” again, regaining the title it had before the Second World War - crossed by many parks, fine buildings, and shops with products less expensive than in other parts of Europe. There will be a visit to President Ceausescu’s “People House”, one of the biggest buildings in the world - due to the circumstances and its bizarre history, this certainly is an impressive sight.

More details about shore excursions can be obtained from your guide. You can read all about them in the information material received from your agency.

- Restaurant - Situated on the Upper deck, it is open only for the scheduled meals.

- Reception desk - Located on the Main deck. Open non-stop for contacts and information.
