Overview

Goals of eLearning Planning Guide

• Reduce planning time and effort • Increase eLearning effectiveness

through targeted improvement • Guide and support innovative and

transformative use of eLearning• Integrate eLearning into School

Strategic Planning documentation• Develop a plan that supports School

and system-wide initiatives and funding submissions

Background to the eLearning planning framework…..

• Clearly defined elements of eLearning

• Defined phases of development

• Incremental target setting, measurement and evaluation

• Other States & Territories Collaboration

How do we know that our eLearning plan will be

successful and lead to greater student learning and school

transformation?• Find an established, conceptual framework that clearly

addresses effective learning for school planning• Create an eLearning ‘overlay’ to guide the use of ICT

in an effective schools framework• Develop a Professional Learning Strategy that

supports the framework

Elements

Foundation Emergent Innovative Transformative

eLearning Leadership

eLearning Leadership is in early

phases of development.

eLearning Leadership is

established and supports the

eLearning vision and plan.

eLearning Leadership is shared across the

School and supports the School’s strategic

direction.

eLearning Leadership supports a culture of eLearning practice

across the School Community.

Learning, Teaching,

Assessment and

Reporting

The use of ICT in learning & teaching and assessment & reporting is in early

stages.

ICT provides tools and resources to

support learning & teaching and assessment &

reporting.

The use of ICT is integrated into learning

& teaching and provides an effective and efficient means for assessment

& reporting.

ICT transforms learning and teaching, assessment and reporting, offering students

opportunities to learn new things in new ways, making connections across the School Community.

ICT Professional

Learning

ICT professional learning is undertaken

independently.

The school supports ICT professional learning for staff.

ICT Professional Learning informs and supports the learning, teaching and School strategic direction.

Schools develop an ICT professional learning culture,

including integrated professional learning across the School

Community.

Foundation Emergent Innovative Transformative

Learning Places and

Spaces

The use of ICT for learning is largely

fixed within the classroom.

Flexible arrangements

support access to ICT for learning

across the school.

Flexible learning environments

incorporate ICT to support individual learning needs.

ICT enables personalised learning anywhere anytime.

Student ICT

Capability

Recognition of student ICT Capabilities is

informal.

Student ICT Capabilities are

recognised, evaluated and

used to increase engagement.

Student ICT Capabilities are formally

recognised, inform planning and create

independent learners.

Student ICT Capabilities transform how students acquire

skills and knowledge.

Learning Communities

ICT for learning is an isolated activity

occurring within the classroom.

Local and School based

Communities are supported through

ICT.

ICT connects Schools

to local and global communities to

enhance learning and teaching.

Local and Global Communities enable Schools to lead ICT based programs that transform Learning

and Teaching.

Planning Options• A separate eLearning plan

– A complete document that supports the annual School Implementation Plan which stems from School Strategic Plan.

Choose this because:– ICT is a large financial investment– eLearning can be a catalyst for School

Transformation– ICT is part of 21st Century Learning

Planning Options (…cont)• Integrated eLearning into Strategic Planning – Review or amend existing Strategic

Plan and annual School Implementation Plan to ensure each eLearning area is recognised and planned for

Supports the

Planning Process

1. Review your vision

2. Plot your school on the matrix

3. Identify your current practice

4. Identify your target practice

5. Develop key strategies, actions, resources, budget, responsibilities and timelines

6. Complete SIPS and identify required IT infrastructure to support

7. Implement and review plan

What’s Happening at Your School?

• Specialist program?

• Classroom programs?

• IT specific subjects?

Discuss at tables

• Your role in leading development in these areas

1. Review your Vision

Example:

To inspire and empower our School’s learning community to envision and implement innovative eLearning strategies and technologies to improve student engagement, experience and achievement.

2. Plot your school on the matrix

Access

Emergent Access to ICT resources is flexible within the School with multiple fixed access points for students to choose to access ICT.

Innovative There is flexible access anywhere, anytime within the School, with an opportunity to incorporate mobile technologies. Access to some ICT based resources, including online, is available outside of the School.

5. Develop key strategies, actions, resources, budget, responsibilities and timelines

The eLearning Vision

The eLearning Vision will provide a direction for where your School is going in relation to ICT for learning. Your Vision should be a desired outcome that inspires, energises and helps you create a mental picture of your target and a compelling picture of what ICT can enable

Creating your eLearning Vision…

Consider:• How will learning and teaching have changed

and how will ICT support this change?

• What type of learning environment would you see?

• How will learning take place?

• What will your students expectations of learning be?

• What will each student know, value and be able to do when they leave your school?

Notes on eLearning Vision

• Your eLearning vision must emanate from your Strategic Plan. Review your School Profile and Values from your Strategic Plan to help form a basis.

• Ensure that your eLearning vision is a clear and succinct statement that is easily understood.

• Ideally it needs to be shared and owned by all of the members of your School Community, including teachers, students and parents

eLearning Leadership

eLearning Leadership refers to the ways in which Leadership guides and supports all aspects of eLearning implementation and management in Schools, ensuring it supports the eLearning Vision and is aligned with the School’s Strategic focus.

Student ICT Capability

Student ICT Capability refers to how the School develops, measures and monitors students ICT Capabilities and recognises the level of engagement and skill, to inform curriculum planning.

Learning, Teaching, Assessment and Reporting

Learning, Teaching, Assessment & Reporting refers to how the School supports teachers and students to manage and extend learning through ICT for improved learning outcomes and how the School uses ICT to strengthen assessment and reporting processes.

ICT Professional Learning

ICT Professional Learning refers to how the School plans, implements and supports ICT professional learning to increase teacher’s confidence and capabilities in integrating ICT for improved learning and teaching.

Learning Places and SpacesLearning Places and Spaces refers to the

Schools approach to the design and management of learning places, spaces and resources using ICT to improve learning programs.

Learning Communities

Learning Communities refers to the Schools implementation of ICT for the creation of and participation in local and global communities that strengthen learning and teaching.

Review and Management

– Are we achieving our vision?– How well are we achieving it?– Is it worth achieving?– How might we achieve it better in the future?
