Between now and early January 2015, we need extra help in our distribution centre in Kendal. Our distribution team are responsible for picking and despatching stock against very tight deadlines for our home shopping department, our 68 retail stores throughout the UK and our overseas franchised stores.These are manual jobs, therefore you need to be able to reach and bend to pick items from shelving and pallets. You need to be conscientious and accurate, with good maths abilities and basic keyboard skills. You should be self-motivated as well as a good team player and be able to work under pressure in a fast moving environment.Roles involve operating order picking machines, however, full training will be given so no previous experience is required.Contracts available are, full-time 39 hours (over 5 full days including one weekend day each week), part-time 32 hours (over 4 full days including one weekend day each week), part-time 16 hours (1 weekday and 1 weekend day or 2 weekend days each week) and 35 hours, nights (on a 4 on 4 off rota system).Day shifts are operational between 7am-11pm every day, apart from Sunday (currently 7am-7pm). Your days and hours of work will be rota’d to include late and early shifts and we will require 6am starts as we get busier. Night shifts operate between 8.30pm–7am over 4 nights (on a 4 on, 4 off rota).Due to the nature of the equipment used, applicants need to be over 18 years of age and be available to attend a pre–employment medical examination.Please only apply if you can commit until January 2015.

County council call for vehicle volunteers Do you like to help your neighbours? Do you have a few hours a week spare to make a difference to other people’s lives?
Cumbria County Council’s Integrated Transport Team is looking to recruit more volunteer co-ordinators and drivers to help elderly and vulnerable people make the journeys they need to live fulfilling lives.
The team is looking to local residents to lend a hand to the Voluntary Social Car Scheme. Driver’s are needed throughout Cumbria.
There are different types of volunteering that people can sign up to, including
· Volunteer Co-ordinators – to help recruit drivers, publicise the scheme, arrange drivers and process claim forms · Volunteer Car Drivers – to pick up neighbours and drive them to their desired destination · Volunteer Minibus Drivers – helping non-for-profit groups to go on days out
Volunteer drivers allow neighbours and people in their local communities with no other means of transport get about, do some shopping, socialise and attend groups. Their generous care greatly adds to the quality of life of their service users.
Volunteers car drivers must hold a full driving license and be under 76 years of age. Volunteers are re-imbursed 45p per mile to cover expenses for any journeys that they make. Volunteer minibus volunteers must have the entitlement D1 on their licence.
Cllr Keith Little, Cumbria County Council’s Cabinet Member for transport, said: “It’s a very rewarding and enjoyable role for the people who take it on and many of our volunteers spend years helping out service users. People and groups who are unable to get about by their own means rely on our fantastic pool of volunteers and we are seeking to extend this pool further.”
