She actively competes in basketball, bocce, bowling, softball, floor hockey, gym- nastics, snowshoe, soccer, track & field, volleyball, and tennis. Julie’s favorite sport is Bocce Ball. Julie hit a major milestone this year when she was moved up to a higher level volleyball team in the Spe- cial Olympics Chicago program. She was thrilled to see that all her hard work had been paying off and that she improved so much in all her sports, but especially vol- leyball. “Julie’s technique and athletic abilities have im- proved greatly this past year in many of the sports she plays,” says Julie’s coach, Kathleen McIntosh. “All our staff has noticed how hard Julie has been working and we are very proud of her many accomplishments. Many of Julie’s teammates look up to her, and she is always willing to help when needed.” Julie says she has earned too many awards to count in her athletic career with Special Olympics. She has been practicing and helping her teammates learn gym- nastics routines, and has a big gymnastics competition coming up on April 5th. “I like to compete with all of my friends, and I like to win the gold medal,” says Julie.
