Dear Friends,
What a winter we have had! Are
you ready for Spring? Good
News! March brings us into the
Season of Lent. Lent is the
Church’s “Springtime”. Out of
the darkness of sin’s winter emerges a people – the
Church – reborn in their Lord’s resurrection.
Did you know that Easter is the oldest Christian
season? The observance of Lent first appeared
between 200-300 A.D. Lent was a time of
preparation for persons being instructed in the
Christian faith before their baptism. Following the
model of Jesus’ time in the wilderness, new adult
converts practiced Lenten penance and prayer for 40
days waiting to receive their baptism, confirmation
and first Lord’s Supper at the Easter vigil.
We are blessed to have 8 young people who are going
through confirmation classes in preparation of
making their membership vows on Easter. During
these 40 days will you pray for them by name: Nick,
Nate, Larry Jacob, Evan, Abby, Jonathan, Kevin, &
Noah. May this Lenten journey be a time of growth
and insight not only for them, but for us as we open
ourselves to God’s springtime of our souls.
Lent calls us to look back on the impact of our
baptism on our lives. How are we doing, we who
have died to sin and come alive to new life in Christ?
In repentance we ask our Lord to clear our lives of
sin. Lent begins with Ash Wednesday. This year we
will be worshiping at St. Paul UMC for Ash
Wednesday, joining with our brothers and sisters in
the act of receiving ashes as a reminder of our
mortality and repentance, along with sharing of Holy
Communion.
Won’t you join us on the Lenten journey? We need
you.
Leaning into the future with hope,
Rev. Donna

Faith UMC in connection with WXML radio station is
once again collecting jars of peanut butter during the
month of March. These jars of peanut butter will be
donated to Lifeline Christian Missions, who will use
them to feed over 5,000 in Haiti, Honduras, El Salvador,
Cuba and the United States through their Christian
School Canteen/feeding program.
Peanut butter is used because it is a great source of
protein that requires no refrigeration. Please bring
your 18 oz. jars of peanut butter with a quarter taped
to the lid to help with the shipping. There will be a box
in the Narthex for the collected jars.
FLOOD BUCKETS: We are still in need of some
items to complete our Flood Buckets and Health
Kits. Please check the list on the wall across from the
office to see what is still needed and then place the items
in the box as marked. As always, we thank you for
generosity and may God bless you.
Thank you to all who helped with the spaghetti dinner
on February 23, 2014. It was very successful and your
help was greatly appreciated!
SOUP & SANDWICH LUNCHEON:
The SERVE Team will be hosting a Soup and Sandwich
Luncheon and Silent Auction on March 23rd following
second service. All proceeds will go to support Flat
Rock Homes. Please join us and support Flat Rock!
2014 SUMMER CAMPS
Camp literature has just arrived! Take your mind
off snow and start thinking summer. It really will
be here soon. There are many camps available.
Anything you can think of!
You can check out Camp Aldersgate by going to
their Facebook page. Camp Asbury is having an
open house on Sunday, March 20, from 2:00-6:00
P.M. Camp Wanake is Saturday, April 12, and
Saturday, May 17, 2014.
The camps go by grade the young person is going
into in the fall. For more information, contact Jane
Schubert at 419-448-8267 or see her at church. The
earlier you register, the better chance you have of
getting the camp of your choice.
CAMP FUND
Here we are again! Time to start thinking about
your youth going to camp. We help our youth out
with the camp fee. The average fee for a weeks
camp is at least $339.00. We try to pay half of the
fee for our young people. We need your help in this.
It is a great investment of your money. To donate,
just put it in the offering plate, marked Camp Fund.
Thanks for your help!

Missions has been counted! Thanks be to God for
all of the supportive ways our church instills in our
children the importance of giving to missions. The
children have not yet voted as to where the money
will be going, but watch next month’s newsletter to
see the many missions that are blessed by the
children’s weekly noisy and quiet offerings.
April 3rd & 4th
Mark your calendars! Start cleaning out those closets
– we need your surplus!
Remember no TV’s, No Computers

Lenten Study
Tuesdays
at 7pm
“Preparing
God’s Path”
This Five week Study by Ray VanderLaan shares
how passionate faith prepares the way for Jesus and
his ultimate act of obedience and sacrifice at the
cross.
Then, be challenged in your own life to live as they
did-by every word that comes from the mouth of
God. Five sessions include: 1. The Way of the
Essenes 2. The Way of John the Baptist 3. Into the
Desert to be Tested 4. The Last Passover 5. The Fifth
Cup-Our Way of Hope.
BASIC Study Starting March 9th in the Jr. Room-
What is church? Who is it for? Is it broken? Can it be better? "If I only had this as my guide . . . if all I had
was the Bible . . . and I was to read this book and start a 'church,' what would it look like?" asks Francis Chan, in the BASIC series. "Would it look like the thing we have built here and all refer to as church? Or would it look radically different?"
Each lesson consists of a short film (no more than 15 minutes) and discussion, and a Bible will be very handy!
The topics for the series are: March 9, 2014 - BASIC Fear God March 16, 2014 - BASIC Follow Jesus March 23, 2014 - BASIC Holy Spirit March 30, 2014 - BASIC Fellowship April 6, 2014 - BASIC Teaching April 13, 2014 - BASIC Prayer April 20, 2014 Easter Sunday - BASIC Communion
