It’s finally Fall. Summer is officially over and its time for back-to-school, pumpkin picking, and trick-or-treating. But for some, the best part about fall is the return of their favorite TV show. New shows debut and old favorites return for another season. A comedy staring Anthony Anderson. Anderson’s character attempts to establish a cultural identity for his family after he discovers that his children don’t have one.

ABC had quite a few new shows premiering for the season

Another show by the wildly successful Shonda Rhimes (Scandal & Grey’s Anatomy). Viola Davis stars as a serious law school professor whose students vie for both her attention and most importantly, a prestigious internship at her law firm. But, things get interesting when the students get caught up in a murder plot.

Ioan Gruffudd stars as NYC medial examiner, Henry Morgan, who has an unusual secret: he cannot die. Morgan studies the dead to see if he can uncover the mystery behind his own immortality.

and the winner is…How to Get Away With Murder is the winner. At its peak during its premier on Thursday, September 25, the show received over 3,000 mentions across online news, social media, Twitter, blogs, and forums.

Comparison

When compared with other popular shows like Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal, How to Get Away with Murder still came out on top. Only time will tell if viewers continue to agree and keep the show on the air.

Lastly is Gotham, which premiered this week. The O.C. and Southland alum Ben McKenzie stars as a police detective whose life begins to change when he starts to investigate a murder. The series also tells the stories of Gotham City’s comic villains, Catwoman, the Penguin, and the Riddler.

FOX had 3 shows premiere for the new TV season.

Next up is Red Band Society. The drama takes place in the children’s ward of a Los Angeles hospital and follows a group of patients as they face life-challenging and life-threatening obstacles such as cancer and heart defects.

First up is Utopia. This reality series takes 15 contestants of varying backgrounds and beliefs and leaves them in the wilderness to build their own society with their own rules.

and the winner is…On it’s premiere night, Monday, September 22, the show received over 6,000 mentions across online news, Twitter, social media, blogs, and forums. Red Band Society does deserve an honorable mention as it had over 2,500 mentions on the day it premiered.

When comparing the three new shows with the other returning shows that premiered this week, Gotham still comes out on top.

NBC had only one show premier for the new season…

…but has 3 more premiering throughout October. The show that made its debut at the end of September was The Mysteries of Laura, starring Debra Messing. The lighthearted drama features Laura Diamond (Messing) as a NYPD homicide detective who by day cleans up the streets of New York and by night is cleaning up after her rambunctious twin sons.!!Other NBC shows that returned this week: The Voice, The Blacklist, Chicago Fire, Law & Order: SVU, Chicago P.D., and Parenthood.

and the winner is…

All of the shows peaked on the days on which they appeared. Receiving the most mentions was The Blacklist with 1,955, followed by Parenthood at a close second with 1,925 mentions across online news, Twitter, social media, blogs and forums.

Lastly is a new city for one of TV’s most watched drama series NCIS, NCIS: New Orleans. Same premise, new location.

CBS had three shows premier the week of September 22.

Next up is Madam Secretary starring Tea Leoni. She plays a former CIA agent whose old boss happens to be the president of the United States. He asks her to take the position of Secretary of State after an accident claims the life of her predecessor.

First we have Scorpion, which is about a bunch of nerds who come together as a team to solve some of the world’s most complex problems. The show is based off of real-world genius, Walter O’Brien.

and the winner is…The winner who received the most mentions on their premiere day was Scorpion with over 2,300 mentions. NCIS was a close second with 2,100 and Madam Secretary with 1,800.

When compared to other favorites, the original NCIS came out on top with over 3,000 mentions on its return day.
