Make a Difference Grants

Grants up to £1,000 are available for groups and organisations to put on projects, activities that improve the environment in communities or neighbourhoods in which Sovereign housing has its properties. This grant programme is administered by South West Foundation.

A map of where all Sovereign properties are located can be views via this LINK.

Sport & Leisure Funding

Peter Harrison Foundation

Under the Opportunities through Sport Programme the Peter Harrison Foundation wishes to support projects that give opportunities for disabled people, or those that are disadvantaged, in order to help them fulfil their potential, increase their confidence and develop personal and life skills through the medium of sport.

There is no minimum or maximum level of grant. Each grant request will be reviewed on its own merits. The Foundation regularly awards over £1 million in grants annually. Grants are usually made for capital projects.

Consideration will be given for revenue funding for a new project or if funding is key to the continuing success or survival of an established project .

The Foundation accepts applications from the following organisations throughout the UK: Registered charities. Community Amateur Sports Clubs (CASC). Friendly Societies or Industrial Provident Societies. Local branches of national charities may apply, but they must have a separate legal constitution or the endorsement of their national Head Office..

The Trustees welcome applications for the following types of project:

Projects which provide a focus for skills development and confidence building through the medium of sport.

Projects that have a strong training and/or educational theme within the sporting activity. Projects that provide sporting equipment or facilities for disabled or disadvantaged people. Projects with a high degree of community involvement. Projects that help to engage children or young people at risk of crime, truancy or addiction.

Applications, which may be submitted at any time, are made through a two-stage process. Interested organisations should in the first instance submit an initial enquiry online. Only selected entries will then be invited to complete a full application. B-C H Charitable Trust The B-C H Charitable Trust provides grants for charitable organisations in the UK, with a preference for Devon and Cornwall. The Trust awards grants between £500 and £1,000 to organisations for general charitable projects. In particular, the Trust wishes to support projects that benefit children and young people. Grants are usually between £500 and £1,000. Applications process is on-going and can be may be made at any time in writing. The Trustees meet twice each year to consider applications. The Trust doesn’t have a website. SAFE South West

SAFE (Safety Advice and Education) South West is a registered charity (no. 1153179) and grant provider whose activities cover the following geographic areas:

Cornwall, Devon, Dorset , North Somerset, Plymouth, Somerset, and Torbay

It's charitable objectives include:

(1) Promoting the efficient delivery of fire and community safety programmes; (2) Promoting and raising awareness in community safety and fire safety issues; (3) Promoting greater public participation in fire and community safety programmes and initiatives; and (4) Developing the capacity and skills of members of socialy and economically disadvantaged communities in such a way that they are better able to identify their needs and participate more fully in society.

True Colours Trust

Trustees of the Trust are committed to supporting a large number of excellent local organisations and projects that support disabled children and their families on a daily basis. The Trust has a small grants programme, open to application at any time, which provides grants of up to £10,000, usually for one-off purposes, to help smaller organisations develop and deliver programmes for children, their siblings and families.

Happy Days Children’s Charity

National children’s charity dedicated to providing holidays, days out and theatre trips for disadvantaged young people with special needs. Day trips/theatre trips/visiting theatre performances You can apply for a day trip to a wide variety of destinations e.g. seaside, a theme park or the theatre. You may also apply for a visiting theatre performance to visit your premises. Group Activity Holidays They will consider applications for funding, partial funding, joint projects with other agencies and applications for groups residential holidays.

Eligibility for both grants: You must represent a group of young people aged 3-17 with special needs. All key carers who will be accompanying children on the trip must be DBS cleared. You must also have a child protection policy in place. Supporting People Funding Opportunities Oliver Ford Foundation

The Oliver Ford Foundation offers grants to charitable organisations active in the UK for projects and initiatives that provide housing, education and training for individuals who have learning disabilities. Grants are also available to support education projects that address the following themes: Fabric design. Interior design and furniture. Landscape gardening. Awards are generally around £5,000. During 2013 the Foundation made 17 grant awards totalling around £87,000. This included awards to South West charitable organisations. The application process is ongoing and interested applicants may apply at any time. PLEASE NOTE – the Foundation does not have a website. Further information is, however, available on the Charity Commission website using the Foundation's charity number (1026551). Applications must be made in writing and should include any relevant supporting information. The Trustees meet two times a year to consider applications. The Bothwell Charitable Trust Charitable organisations based and working in the UK are eligible to apply for grants in the following fields: Children's causes. Disability. Social Work. Countryside projects. Medical research. Hospices. Please note: applications may also be made for projects outside these general areas. No minimum of maximum size of award is given by the Trust, although grants are likely to be small. Applications, which must be made in writing, may be made at any time. Multi Focus Funding Opportunities Woodward Charitable Trust

The Woodward Charitable Trust awards grant funding to small-scale, locally-based charitable initiatives in the UK in the following areas: Children and young people who are isolated, at risk of exclusion or involved in anti-social

behaviour.

Disability projects which can include rehabilitation and training for people who are either physically disabled or have a learning disability, as well as help to improve employment prospects.

Homelessness, especially affecting young people and women, and covering facilities such as women's refuges.

Arts outreach work by local groups for the benefit of disadvantaged people.

Environmental projects, especially those with a strong educational element.

Minority groups including refugees, gypsies and travellers. Projects that promote integration and community cohesion will be favoured.

Prisoners and ex-offenders. Projects that help the rehabilitation and resettlement of prisoners and/or ex-offenders are supported as well as requests to help prisoners’ families.

The Trust offers the following types of funding:

Small grants, £100-£5,000 (around 100 grants are made each year). Only 20% or all applicants are likely to receive a grant over £3,000.

Large grants, over £5,000 (only around 6 grant are made per year). Large grants are mainly given to charities already known to the Trustees. Please note that applications for large grants will automatically be rejected unless they are discussed with the administrator prior to submission.

Funding is primarily for one-off projects, but the Trustees are willing to consider funding running costs, including core cost and salaries. Multi Focus Funding Opportunities Gordon Fraser Charitable Trust

The Gordon Fraser Charitable Trust was established in 1966 by Gordon Fraser, a publisher of books and greetings cards.

The Trust offers grants to registered charities active in the UK.

The scheme is intended to support projects relating to:

Young People, People with Disabilities,

The Environment, and

The Arts. No minimum of maximum level of grant is advertised by the Trust. However, its annual charitable giving is in the region of £170,000 and so the majority of grants are likely to be below £5,000.

The Trust has some preference for supporting projects in Scotland, but it explicitly states that it will consider applications from any part of the UK.

Funding is available for general charitable purposes.

Applications may be submitted at any time and will be considered quarterly in January, April, July and October.

CHK Charities Limited CHK Charities Limited provides financial assistance to UK charities working in the trust's areas of interests.

These are: • Arts. • Conservation. • Environmental and animal welfare. • Crime. • Disability. • Education. • Employment. • Drug rehabilitation. • Homelessness. • Health. • Youth issues. • General medical research. • Research into blindness/deafness.

There are three funding strands: • One-Off Grants: These grants can be awarded towards core costs or for a specific project e.g. a contribution towards a building/refurbishment project, purchase of specialist equipment or other similar capital expenditure, or assistance with running costs.

• Conditionally Renewable Grants These grants can be made for more than one year towards start-up costs, or for a specific item such as a salary, core costs or towards the costs of a particular project.

Applications are accepted from charitable organisations in the UK at any time and are considered by the Trustees approximately every two months. Interested applicants must first submit their own application in writing (emailed applications are not accepted), which should be no longer than four A4 sides, and should include a half page summary.
