GEN [COUNTRY] STRATEGIC PLANNING• The best strategic plans present a big-picture overview

• What GEN [Country] will do and accomplish• Not a detailed blueprint of how GEN [Country] will carry out day-to-day

operations

• Choose a timeframe, e.g. two years – things change rapidly in this space• Decide who you want to be involved in the process• MDs take the lead in drafting, involve others as advisors and

commentators• Creating an initial draft will help to recruit board members, advisors

and partners

GEN [COUNTRY] STRATEGIC PLANNING• The Managing Director Handbook sets out a step-by-step process for

drafting a straightforward plan that sets out:• Your mission statement• Your overall goals, near-term objectives and activities• From inputs to outputs to outcomes to impact

• Your assessment of the ecosystem• Conclusions from recent research and surveys about to the major

challenges facing startups and scale-ups nationally• Your assessment of available resources – and anticipated resources• Your strategic analysis—typically a “gap” analysis or “SWOT” analysis
