Gundaroo Public School
Week 1, Term 4, 2019
Dear Parents,
Term 4 is here! It’s hard to believe we’re at that point of the year already, and are about
to welcome another group of Kindy students to our school. Given all that will be
happening this term, I’ve decided to take the opportunity to give an overview of the
various events for the term so that hopefully, no-one is taken by surprise!
Kindy Orientation
This will take place on the first three Thursday mornings of this term. Prospective Kindy
students will spend time in the classroom learning what it’s like to go to ‘big school’,
and will of course be assisted by their very eager buddies! An information session with
myself and Mrs Nicholls will be held for new Kindy parents during week 2, and Mrs
Dunkerley will explain the ins and outs of the Kindy classroom in week 3.
So that they don’t miss out on the fun, all of the other classes will ‘move up a grade’ to
experience the morning in the classroom they are likely to be in the following year. Fun
all round!
Concert & Presentation Night
Our Concert & Presentation Night is scheduled for Thursday, 5th December, starting at
6pm. As is tradition, each class will present an individual item (whole-school items are
performed every second year), and special awards will be presented on the night.
Information on costumes etc. will go home shortly. Individual book prizes are now
presented at a separate assembly to save time.
Swimming
Our K-6 Swimming program is on again this year, from the 9th - 18th December. All
students will travel in to the AIS on the bus at around 11:30, and arrive back at school
by 3pm. This 8-day intensive swimming program presents excellent opportunity to
teach students critical life skills leading into summer.
Community Breakfast
This wonderful community event is held on the last Friday of Term 4 (13th December).
For just a couple of dollars, you can enjoy a delicious breakfast of bacon and egg rolls,
pancakes, fruit and coffee. It’s our way of saying thank you for the support throughout
the year! It’s at this event that our 2020 captains are also announced and 300 Night
Reading book vouchers are awarded!
Year 6 Farewell
This is an opportunity for our Year 3-6 students to say a final farewell to our outgoing
Year 6s. To be held on Wednesday 17th December, a three-course meal will be
served, followed by dancing to our Year 6 students’ favourite tunes! A night not to be
missed!
Looking forward to a fantastic final term,
Nigel Trethowan

Kindergarten Orientation
Gundaroo Public School will be conducting its
orientation program for prospective Kindergarten
students next term.
17th October - Morning tea and a chance to
meet and chat with other kinder parents
24th October – Information session with Mr
Trethowan and Mrs Nicholls
31st October – Information session with Mrs
Dunkerley (Kindy teacher)
Children will join Mrs Dunkerley in the classroom
for the morning, this will provide your child with the
opportunity to experience a little of what to expect
next year, and help familiarise them with the
routines and surroundings. Hopefully, this will
lessen the fears of that first big day next year and
prepare them for a more gentle transition into
school life.
At 11.15am, the children will come out for lunch to
eat until 11.30am. Please pack them a hat and
something to eat and to drink, as eating with the
rest of the school is another routine they will
encounter.
Hats With the UV index steadily rising with
the warmer weather it is time to start
wearing hats again during recess and
lunch.
“No hat, play in the shade” will be in place again for all of Term 4.
Hats are available for purchase in the office for $12
Joining us? Leaving us?
If you know of anyone moving to the village
and planning to enrol their children, or if your
circumstances are changing and your child
will be leaving us, please let us know.
Having this information early is greatly
appreciated and helps us plan and prepare
for classes for 2020.
Did you know, pickles and
gherkins are types of
cucumbers?
Cucumbers make refreshing snacks for
Crunch & Sip. Small cucumbers are the
perfect size for kids, or cut a larger cucumber
into sticks for an easy snack!
