Our two guest speakers, Janet Tuck and Caroline Standford, from Career Clinic, spoke extensively about ways in which young people can best determine their career choice and methods to ensure planned pathways are the best fit for their life. The response from those assembled was extremely positive and parents and students left the meeting with a good knowledge of our programme for 2013, the subject selection process and the best way they could utilise all that Hebron Christian College secondary department can offer them to succeed at the secondary level and enter post-secondary life with all the knowledge and skills needed. Kristiaan Whips the Aussies Hebron Year 7 student, Kristiaan Welch, flew to Australia during the last holidays to compete in the Kanga Cup, a Tran Tasman soccer competition for 10yr to 18yr children. Her girls’ team, Three Kings United, played 7 games and won all of them, eventually beating Woden Valley team 2-0 in the final. The team members were all given medals, the Championship Cup and a Fairplay Award. Well done Kristiaan…we are proud of you.

YWAM Performance A group of 8 young people from Germany, Romania, Japan, Canada and New Zealand attended our school on Tuesday and blessed both our assemblies with songs, dance, drama and testimonies. Secondary students were invited to meet the team after their assembly and be ministered to by the team. After the assemblies, they visited classes and assisted teacher with odd jobs. YWAM stands for Youth With A Mission….not Youth Wanting A Mate!

Emily Sings on Erin Simpson Show Our Head girl, Emily Muli, continues to write her own songs, singing them while accompanying herself on the guitar with an amazing strumming technique and posting them on You Tube. One of her songs has been viewed over 1,500,000 times and all her clips have been viewed over 3,000,000 times! Wow…we have a celebrity in our midst! Emily has appeared on television again, this time on the Erin Simpson Show singing “Daisy Chains and Paper Planes”. You can see her TV appearance on You Tube at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V1Q6wzJxA8A&feature=g-all-f or watch her sing the song “We Found Love” on the “What Now” TV show at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OJ8cNZdtHBc&list=FLc6hXwCfRxMox5gybUJ_4wg&index=4&feature=plpp_video

Namiki High School Visit Twenty 15 and 16 year old Japanese students will join our school for 8 days starting next Thursday afternoon. They will all be accommodated by Hebron families and teachers. During mornings they will have intensive English lessons together in a school classroom and in the afternoons will integrate with Hebron classes and also visit the Nga Kakano Maori Christian School in West Auckland. Families homestaying the students will receive a letter from me on Tuesday updating information regarding the visit.

Gala Please remember to start bringing items to the school for our gala in Term 4. Items must be clean, clothing washed and ironed or folded nicely. Items should not be broken. Very old computers are more of a hassle than a help. Please don't send things with missing parts or pieces or very old books. Items need to have some quality and not just be very old junk. If you have very large items of furniture then these items need to be stored at home until closer to the gala date. Special Request: Un-needed yarns of wool..any colour. We have a lady knitting children’s jumpers for the gala and she needs more wool. Can you help? Movie Money Fundraiser W still have about 60 tickets left to sell. Please help us by buying these and then we can give out the Lolly Treasure Box to the class that has bought the most….hopefully next Friday. They can be obtained from the school office. School Musical Sponsorship Parents who are business owners may receive an invitation to advertise your business in the 'Star of Persia' musical programme in the next week. You may share this with other friends you know who have businesses also. We hope you can help out, or if any family generally would like to make a donation for this purpose it can be dropped in at the bursar's office. This sponsorship will provide a start-up budget.

Wanted: A Worm Farm The Enviro-Schools, Intermediate club, is introducing a Wastewise programme, in conjunction with Auckland Council, in to the school in September and it is hoped we will be using two worm farms and an operational Reuse, Reduce, Recycle programme. We would like to know if anyone has a worm farm they could donate to us to get our project underway. If you can help, please contact Ruth Scott at [email protected] Mislaid Jethro Nicario has mislaid his PE clothes and rubber shoes, all stored in a red bag. If found, please contact him in Year 9 or hand into the office. Enjoy your weekend watching sport…maybe the Crusaders-Chiefs semi-final or maybe the Olympic Games!
