Catholic Leadership Day Catholic Leadership Day was a superb day for the Hillary Hub, Catholic Cathedral College and all other schools that participated in this wonderful event. We got to play games, socialise, meet new people and win chocolate. The focus for the day was to build communities at school, at home and in our world. Catholic Cathedral did very well in demonstrating that and we (as schools) started to build communities within ourselves. The Hillary Hub students enjoyed this day very much.

Choir at Jubilate 2019

On Monday 24th June our school choir went to St Mary's School for Jubilate. The Jubilate this year was a celebration of the feast of St John the Baptist. All the Catholic schools in Christchurch participated. We had fifteen songs to sing, including ’I am The Light’ and ‘Ka Waiata’. Bishop Paul attended the ceremony and was greatly impressed. Mrs Cummings came and she was also very impressed. We really enjoyed this ceremony and we thought that everyone sounded amazing! We are looking forward to the Jubilate next year!

Feedback for the Bishop’s proposed plan has now opened. There is 2½ months for feedback to be submitted. For ease of collation feedback online is encouraged and will take approximately 10 minutes though if you want to give fuller responses extra time may be required. The feedback questionnaire comprises specific questions as well as space for people to give general feedback. Hard copies of the evaluation form will soon be available from the school office. Information on the Bishop’s proposed plan can be found on the website www.ourfaith.chchcatholic.nz A meeting with Bishop Paul in each of the Christchurch regions will be held in July and dates will be available shortly on the website (www.chchcatholic.nz)

New Police Phone Number – 105 NZ Police recently launched a new non-emergency number, 105. They have done this to make it easier to get hold of them in the event of non-urgent situations or ‘Things which have Already Happened’, which don’t require Police assistance immediately. You can call them on 105 for all non-emergencies, or you can go online at 105.police.govt.nz to report things like:

- Lost property - Theft for a public place or car - Intentional property damage - Or to get an update or add info to a previous report

In the event of an emergency, always call 111.

Community Notices

An Invitation to Discover a Sky Playground Open Christchurch invites the public of all ages to discover central city architecture and public spaces with free, one-off access to special buildings, and a range of themed walking tours.

Comprising one event per week over winter, the programme kicks off on Sunday 30 June when The Cathedral Grammar Junior School opens its doors and its rooftop playground for all to encounter for one day only.

https://www.facebook.com/events/1177364139132613/

This open building will be of particular interest to school aged families.

Many of the school’s key spaces are outdoors. So if the weather is fine, make sure you try the slide and get a view from above. Come along and enjoy the behind-the-scenes access between 10am and 4pm, when you can encounter this special building on your own terms and at your own pace.

Our aim is to bring more people back into the central city and to experience architecture on their own terms and at their own pace.

This includes school students as our open buildings are three very different inner-city schools - all engaging examples of how design impacts students' experiences when they are at school.

Two very different inner-city school buildings open in the weeks that follow: the stunning heritage building, Christ’s College Memorial Dining Hall (Sunday 4 August); and Ao Tawhiti, Christchurch’s only vertical school (Saturday 7 September).

More information can be found here: https://teputahi.org.nz/2015-programme/open-christchurch/

Hope to see you there!
