HEFEL Textil sets great store on faultless quality and our controls start with the purchase of the yarn. All yarn purchased is examined immediately on receipt. In the weaving mill, the master weaver carries out continuous checks. In the control of raw materials the fabric is checked for warp and weft faults. In the final control of the textile, the whole finished textile is again thoroughly examined for warp and weft faults and for finishing and other faults. After the materials have been made up the finished sewn products are again controlled for sewing faults before being packed. These production controls enable us to pro-vide you with an excellent and exclusive end-product.

Josef Anton Hefel established the „Schifflistickerei“ in Schwarzach in 1907. Some 30 years later, in 1936, the ticking weaving mill was opened in Schwarzach, which is now one of the last two remaining mills in German-speaking Europe. After the acquisition of the quilt factory in Kefermarkt, Upper Austria in 1972, HEFEL forged ahead with the production of quilts. For the first time TENCEL® down combines the warmth, light weight and fluffy cosiness of a down-filled quilt with the highly breathable and moisture-regulating characteristics of TENCEL®. Filling+fabric+quilting are perfectly matched. The TENCEL® down filling wicks away moisture released during sleep and transfers it to the TENCEL® fabric which then disperses it to the outside air.

Quilted products with premium animal hair, natural fibre and fibre fillings are processed in Kefermarkt (Upper Austria). We use primary materials carefully selected according to the strictest criteria which our factory then makes into finest layers of gauzy material for the filling. These are combined with the finest fabrics from Schwarzach to produce each individual item of bedding, much of which is made by hand.

As well as the employment of natural fibres, the correct quilting is a decisive factor because it must ensure that the quilt fits the body perfectly. HEFEL BodyFit quilting refers to quilting patterns designed to fit the shape of the body, giving HEFEL quilts their incomparable snugness and warmth. The quilts fold along the quilting seams particularly smoothly to wrap comfortably around the body and ensure a cosily warm sleeping cocoon.

The starting point for manufacturing a non-woven fabric is the fibre. During the first stage this is simultaneously roughly loosened up and de-dusted. The processed fibre material is blown through pipes to the fine opener. The fibres open up further during this process.

In the fibre opener the fibre mass is further opened up, de-dusted, dirt particles and unwanted short fibres are removed.

In the carding machine the filling fibres are gently and evenly cleaned one last time and arranged. The various different rollers „comb“ the fibres, combining them in such a way that they hook around each other. This gives them better elasticity and filling volume.

The finer the individual layers, the more air and thus warmth can the filling store. Every HEFEL filling consists of up to 25 separate layers of gauzy material. These are laid criss-cross on top of each other and secured to make a particularly hard-wearing and stable fleece.

Their premium quality wool is processed to create the wonderfully light fillings for HEFEL cashmere quilts. In order to survive the extreme environment in which they live, where temperatures can fall to -45°C, these exceptional animals have evolved a type of hair that protects against the cold like no other.

In the icy remoteness of the Himalayas, people and animals still peacefully coexist in a state of natural symbiosis. Cashmere goats are not shorn; instead small quantities of their superfine un-derhair is combed out by hand once a year. The yield per goat is

only 100g to 300g. It is therefore not surprising that high quality cashmere is hard to find and expensive. HEFEL’s cashmere experts regularly travel to the region to check the quality of the underhair.

HEFEL has chosen the innovative fibre TENCEL® C for its Wellness Sensitive bedding. The well-known TENCEL® fibre is distinguished by its positive skin characteristics, its smooth feel, optimal moisture management and very high breathability - not least as result of its botanical origin (100% wood). After intensive research the Austrian company Lenzing AG has succeeded in impregnating the natural TENCEL® fibre with chitosan, a natural substance of oceanic ori-gin. Chitosan is derived from the shells of crustaceans and ideally complements the TENCEL® wood fibre. As a TENCEL® pioneer HEFEL is once again playing a pioneering role in introdu-cing the cosmetic fibre with ocean extract in the bedding market.
