HEIGHTS HYPE
17th March 2016 Newsletter No. 5
Dear Parents,
I hope all families enjoyed the long weekend together as a result of the Labour Day Public Holiday and our Pupil
Free Day. All staff completed their CPR, Asthma, Anaphylaxis and Level 2 First aid training on Tuesday as
student safety and duty of care is our highest priority at FHPS.
Bunnings BBQ
A most successful Bunnings BBQ, with 26 parents assisting on the roster from 8am till 4.30pm, was held on
Sunday. I thank all the 26 parents for their help over the long weekend to cook sausages and onions, serve
families all day and assist with setting up and cleaning up. Through these special efforts from all involved, the
school raises additional funds, which is targeted towards the installation of new air conditioners in a number of
classrooms, and ideally, towards a new fence surrounding the school. Every effort helps our school to continually
improve the facilities and its resources. I’d especially like to thank Craig Bennett’s family for their generous
donation of the sausages and bread. Craig and his family have been outstanding supporters of the school and their
support alone, has been an invaluable contribution towards our targeted fundraising total for the school. Craig’s
business, Tapfix Plumbing Services [see logo below], is one I’m happy to endorse due to the fabulous support we
receive at school.
School Carpark and Traffic Update
FHPS School Council recently discussed the response from the Frankston City Council regarding the traffic flow
in Kalmia and Robinia Streets and how to improve student safety, when travelling to and from school. In brief,
the school has responded to the Council to endorse the installation of ‘No U Turn’ signs, improve paintwork to
define the school crossings, improve signage to clarify the ‘No Parking’ areas and where parking is permitted, the
installation of short term parking bays to encourage dropping off and moving on, rather than long term parking at
the entrance gates into the school grounds. The school will work closely with the council to achieve the best result
for our students. I remind families that law enforcement officers will
periodically patrol the local streets and book anyone parking in the wrong
areas. The council want to encourage families to drive around the school
in a U shape to assist with traffic flow entering via Robinia Street, driving
to the end, turning left past the childcare centre and left into Kalmia Street
to exit at Heatherhill Road. This would ensure ‘No U’ turns were needed
at any time.
I wish all families a wonderful weekend. I look forward to our Easter
Raffle being drawn next Thursday 9.00am at our last assembly for term 1.
Don’t forget to buy your tickets to win some great Easter baskets and
Easter treats!

EVERY DAY COUNTS
At Frankston Heights we know how important attendance is at school.
This term each class has come up with their own attendance campaign to highlight
why every day counts at school.
Next Thursday, the 24th of March at 9:00am assembly, each class will perform or
show a video of their campaign.
We invite all families to come along to the assembly to vote for their favourite ad
campaign. As well as your vote, the teachers and CASSE student team will also vote
for their favourite.
I wonder who will win!
Everyone’s a winner in our eyes if they make every
day count!

Primary School Attendance
Going to school every day is the single most important part of your child’s education. Students learn new things at school every day – missing school puts
them behind. Why it’s important
We all want our students to get a great education, and the building blocks for a great education begin with students coming to school each and every day.
If students miss school regularly, they miss out on learning the fundamental skills that will set them up for success in the later years of school.
There is no safe number of days for missing school – each day a student misses puts them behind, and can affect their educational outcomes.
Each missed day is associated with progressively lower achievement in numeracy, writing and reading.
