WORK DAY WAS A TREMENDOUS SUCCESS

Wow. What a wonderful day Saturday was! The weather was perfect. The turn out was exceptional. I didn’t count, but it must have been near 40 people. And we were able to get so many projects completed. It was fantastic! Here are some things that got done: Kitchen scrubbed clean and organized. High chairs cleaned. All the Fellowship hall chairs cleaned and repaired. Flower beds cleaned out; overgrowth trimmed.

Parking lots cleaned. Vestibule window and entrance doors painted. Nursery cleaned and disinfected. Children’s classrooms updated. The bus scrubbed clean inside and out. Sanctuary woodwork cleaned. Baseboards and window sills cleaned. My deep and enthusiastic thanks to all who turned out to enjoy great fellowship on an excellent day of good work. It was a lot of fun! We will do it again soon.

FELLOWSHIP HALL WORK HAS BEGUN You will soon begin to see changes in our Fellowship Hall. Already asbestos tiles have been properly removed and we are preparing to remove walls early next week. None of this work should disrupt our Wednesday suppers and events.

CHURCH-WIDE PICNIC AT MILL’S FARM We are trying something new this fall—a church-wide picnic outing at Mark and Wendy Mills’ farm. We will be doing this instead of the block party. We think it is a good time to try something new that will give our church family the opportunity to enjoy an easy evening of low-key fellowship and fun. There will be a lot of fun things to do for all ages in a beauti-ful setting. Put this on your calendar now. It should be a blast.

A Note from Gary Ferguson to His West Main Family

Since 1984, the West Main family has been my family—and it still is. Though for the past few years I’ve been unable to attend church often, that sense of kinship remains—has even strengthened. I’ve appreciated so much your visits, calls and cards more than you can know. Though my condition has deteriorated in recent weeks, I do enjoy your visits. These days the visits often need to be brief, and at times I’m unable to have company at all. Dave Gluhareff has been kind enough to help me by scheduling visits. It is helpful to call him so there won’t be several visitors at one time. In closing, let me say again how grateful I am for my West Main family. Gary Ferguson

NOMINATING COMMITTEE BEGINS WORK Seeking Deacon Suggestions

The Nominating Committee will soon begin seeking West Mainers to serve our church as deacons. If you would like to suggest someone

to be a Deacon at West Main, please call the church office and share the name with Billie Jo. The word deacon in Greek is diakonos. It means servant. In Jesus’ time it was someone who waited tables or someone who carried mes-sages. We are seeking suggestions of West Main-ers who have a tested servant’s heart and a history of service to God’s people and the world. Deacons must be over 18 and a member for

at least one year. The term is three years. Please note, all suggestions are reviewed by the Nominating Committee to make sure our Deacon Council reflects the demographics and needs of our church.
