Welcome Back!

We are excited for the 2021-22 academic year. Despite the challenges that our community nation, and

world have faced since March 2020, the CHS Patriots have embodied what it means to be a Patriot.

The Patriot Path is one that exemplifies perseverance, active engagement, healthy relationships, and

making positive choices. While we experienced our share of struggle, there is so much to celebrate.

A resounding theme from the 2020 commencement speeches was one of PERSEVERANCE. We are

proud to report that CHS had 306 graduates that did just that – received a diploma. Several students

were even the first in their family to do so.

The academic accomplishments despite the pandemic and on-line learning are remarkable. A sampling of awards is listed below.

• 19 AP Scholars (students who have received a score of 3 or higher on 3 or more exams)

• 14 AP Scholars with Honors (students who have received an average score of 3.25 on all AP exams taken, AND scores of 3

or higher on 4 or more exams

• 6 AP Scholars with Distinction (students have achieved an average score of 3.5 on all AP exams taken, AND scores of 3 or

higher on 5 or more exams)

• 4 students claimed Academic All-State awards with 13 students receiving Honorable Mention status

• At least 10 students were Outstanding Volunteers each providing over 50 hours of service to our community

• 77 seniors met the criteria for the President’s Award for Educational Excellence (3.5 GPA or higher and scored in the

85th percentile or higher in reading or math on a standardized test)

CHS Patriots also excelled in clubs, organizations, athletics, music, and drama. Not only did these students achieve outside the class-

room but were able to form healthy relationships with their advisors and each other. They did this while making positive choice to

connect with their school and community. The list is too extensive to include all but a few highlights include

• Science Olympiad - Won the regional competition and placed 2nd in the state competition

• Science Bowl - won state and competed at the national level

• Century Choir: 8 Freshmen choir members were selected for the ND American Choral Directors Honor Choir and

15 choir members were selected for the ND All State Choir

• Century Band: 17 events starred at the state music contest. Four were recognized with outstanding performance

awards. 22 students were selected to the ND All State Band. Five of those students were the top musician in their

respective sections.

• HOSA: 17 individuals/teams placed 4th or above in their events at state HOSA with 6 of those individuals/groups win-

ning their event.

• Speech: 4th at WDA and 6th at State.

• 8 STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TEAMS:

Boys Soccer

Boys Cross Country

Football

Girls Swimming

Volleyball

Girls Basketball

Girls Track

Boys Track

For the first time, CHS gave out The Student Patriot of the Year Award. This is the highest honor a student can receive from

Century High School. It recognizes a senior for upholding the values of Bismarck Public Schools: Excellence, Inclusion, Innovation, and

Leadership. In addition to upholding these BPS values, the student also exemplifies and fosters the PATS Path:

• Perseverance: Overcoming obstacles

• Active Engagement: Being involved

• Trust: Building Positive Relationships

• Strength: Doing the right thing

Parking Permits are Required for All Students Who Drive to School

All students attending Century will be required to display a parking permit in their cars while parked in a student lot. There will be a charge of $5 to receive a parking permit and each stu-dent must complete the required registration form. You may purchase a parking permit online at mypaymentsplus.com or the permit registration form can be filled out in the Main Office. Students will receive the permit when the form is completed and the fee is paid. Forms will be available starting Monday, August 9, 2021.

The permit must be displayed by hanging it from the rear view mirror.

The parking lots will be monitored by a security person who will have the authority to issue tickets for cars in violation of the parking rules as outlined on the registration form. A fine of $5 per ticket will be paid in the Main Office. If the fine is not paid within ten (10) calendar days, the fine will become $10 per ticket. If the fine is not paid within the next ten (10) calendar days, detention will be assigned by Mrs. Feland. Continued and habitual parking violations may result in confiscation of the parking permit or the car being towed off school property.

Happy August!

We are pleased to inform you that all high school students

have the option of receiving a district owned Chromebook!

Here is some important information that all families should

know:

• You may provide your own device. It must be the equiva-

lent of a Chromebook, netbook, or laptop. Cell phones,

tablets, iPods, gaming devices, etc. are not adequate de-

vices for school instruction. If you choose to have your

student “bring their own device”, make sure to fill out the

appropriate form through the student enrollment updates

sent from Powerschool in August.

• All students will be required to complete a module on

the BPS Responsible Use Policy (RUP) via LearnBPS. Di-

rections and login information will be sent to the students

in August.

• Parents should complete the student enrollment updates

in PowerSchool. Be watching for that information to

come from the school secretary soon. The update in-

cludes parental contact information, the “bring your own

device” form, and the Responsible Use Policy (RUP) for

technology form.

• Freshmen Chromebooks will be issued during first

period on the first day of school. Students that at-

tended CHS last year and turned in their Chromebooks

for the summer can pick them up in the CHS Tech room

in the library the week prior to school starting. If your

student does not have a first period class or attends the

Career Academy first period, they can pick up their

Chromebook in the CHS Tech room located in the li-

brary.

• Please have your Chromebook charged for the

first day of school!

• Visit the 1:1 Chromebook FAQ page to learn more about

Chromebooks in the classroom (bismarckschools.org ->

Parents -> Chromebook Information).

Please share these tips with your student on how to care for

their Chromebook. We recommend purchasing an HP 14”

protective case that is available in the CHS school store or

online.

Looking forward to seeing our students back at CHS!

gether, make new friendships, be part

of a unique opportunity, give back to

the community and letter in a sport like

a varsity athlete.

Inclusive sports offers three different

sports throughout the school year. Fall-

Flag Football, Winter-Bowling and

Spring-Wiffle Ball. It is usually a 2-3 day

a week commitment with practice 1-2

days a week and games against the oth-

er schools (LHS, BHS and Mandan) on
