PRAYER AND REFLECTION
January 1st 2017 — Solemnity of Mary, the Holy Mother of God Happy New Year! Today we celebrate Mary, the Mother of God, and the eighth day after Jesus was born — his naming day, when he was first called Jesus. At this Mass today let us ask God to reveal to us the name that identifies us even more than our family name or given name or nickname. Let us ask God to help us live out our true name: “Christian.” Let us pray. Prayers of the Faithful
As we begin this New Year, let us ask God for the grace to reveal Christ to our world as we pray, Be born in us; be born in our world. Minister So that in this new year all people of the world will know that God loves all people of the world, we pray … Be born in us; be born in our world.
So that in this New Year the church will reveal the loving face of God to the world, we pray … Be born in us; be born in our world.
So that in this New Year this community will welcome the stranger, visit the sick, feed the needy and embrace the children, we pray … Be born in us; be born in our world.
So that in this New Year our homes will be havens of hospitality, nurturing and peace, we pray … Be born in us; be born in our world. So that in this New Year our families will be patient, loving and full of joy, we pray … Be born in us; be born in our world.
So that in this New Year we may be like Mary, saying Yes to what comes and grateful for what has been, we pray … Be born in us; be born in our world. Prayer: Good and gracious God, you chose humble Mary as a fit dwelling for your Son. Hear our prayers and grant us the grace to reveal Christ to your waiting, needy world. We pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
