How effective is the combination of your main product

and ancillary texts?

A recurring theme I noted was the channel 4 logo was always to the right of the screen. Also the logo wasn’t too big, just small and significant. This is what I did in my print advert.

Our aim was to create a stylist print advert that captured the subject of our documentary and was catchy. This is when I research several print adverts by channel 4 as I wanted to know what makes them stand out from regular print adverts so I could use this in mine.

This print advert gave a very clear template that I could follow in order to make mine as catchy and stylist as a professional one.

I also followed the structure of the tag line. I used some form of text box clashing the colours. I used a white background with a black font as I used this in my documentary as well.

The picture is also a structure I followed as the picture has to sum up the theme of my documentary. I used a simple image with was very clear.

My Print Advert

The tag line we have reads ‘its all about the middle’ this is a recurring theme throughout all of our products. Our music chose in the opening sequence of our documentary also reflects this with the song ‘stuck in the middle with you’ being played in the documentary and radio advert making it recognisable.

As seen here my print out has a very similar layout to these real channel 4 print adverts.Just like the one above and the one to the left my print advert has the channel 4 logo on the right hand side, it contains a tag line which has a text box surrounding it and also has the title of the documentary and a picture that sums up the subject of the documentary. This makes my print advert very effective and ties all the ancillary texts together as it is informative to the audience, it shows clear themes of my documentary which are portrayed through each of my final products (for example the tag line is included in the print ad, my radio ad and also the final documentary.) This layout makes the print advert recognisable as people can relate it from previous channel 4 documentaries.

The radio advert didn’t have a pacific template to follow as there is no set codes and conventions that channel 4 abide by. However there are still certain things that my radio advert had to contain. To do this I had to research real radio adverts online.
