QUESTION 2 - HOW EFFECTIVE IS THE COMBINATION OF YOUR MAIN PRODUCT AND ANCILLARY TEXTS?

NATASHA STOWELL

EMOTIONS – HOW I COMMUNICATED SADNESS AND HEART ACHE FOR A POP/RAP MUSIC VIDEO

The body language and the facial expressions are to portray an vulnerable, ‘Just cheated on’ man, to make the audience feel sorry for him, especially when the video match each word of the lyrics.

The way that his hands are positioned are body angry and sad, giving the impression that he is upset and is frustrated, which is the look I was going for.

EMOTIONS – HOW I TIED IT IN WITH MY ANCILLARY TASKS.When promoting his new album, and I wanted to artist to come out strong, so I gave him more of a confident, sweet outlook, especially on the magazine advert.

However, for the website, I wanted the hoodie to be apart of his ‘Brand’ so I positioned my model to have the hoodie over his head, indicating that he is sad to keep with the continuity with music video.

EMOTIONS – HOW I TIED THIS IN WITH MY NARRATIVE STORY LINE

I also used my main product to portray and express the emotions in the narrative story line. I wanted to promote my artist as a sweet, confident guy, which is good to express for my female target audiences.

On the right is the process that the boy goes through with the emotions of being cheated on, and with this topic, the audience could relate to and feel sympathy for.

EMOTIONS – HOW ARTISTS HAS INFLUENCED THE PORTRAYAL OF MY ARTIST.

Both Hoodie Allen and Professor Green played a big role when it came to emotions and how to portray them successfully when it comes to a music video. Both Artists use there body language to express how they feel when singing. Professor green raises his arms with anger and hoodie looks romantically into his girls eyes, same as mine.

Both is what I used to portray my artists to be a confident, ‘Sweet’ guy.

OUR TARGET AUDIENCE

The target audience for my artists were of the young generation between 17-26 year olds.

To find out the target audience I first did research into who likes what more. And It came across that the highest two on the survey was pop and rap.

To gain the target audience that I wanted, I dressed the artist in the young fashion/casual clothing, so that fans can relate or buy what he is buying, so by dressing him up for the magazine advert, it was easy to find the latest fashion and still relate to the target audience.

COSTUME – HOW IT IS RELATED TO MY GENRES

I dressed our artist in fashionable/casual clothing, not having any ‘high-labels’ so that the audience can find it easier to relate and identify with the artist.

I have kept his hoodie the same through-out because I wanted that to be his brand.

RELATIONSHIP – HOW I USED THE RELATIONSHIP IN THE NARRATIVE

As like before, the relationship between the two performers is very delicate, and shows the stages of the break up of the failing relationship

1) Boy sat on the bed, with the girls phone in his hand, as he has just discovered the cheating text at the beginning of the music video

2) She gets angry with him for going through her things, and says that she is not happy

3) He gets upset, he doesn’t understand what he has done to deserve this

4) She shouts more telling him all the reasons why

5) Until she gives up and just storms out.

RELATIONSHIP NARRATIVEOther Rap/Pop artists will sing about break ups, and in there lyrics would be narrative that features in there music video, just like Andrew Goodwin’s theory. Singers like Professor Green and Conor Maynard.

The reason why I chose to do a break-up scene of the male being cheated on instead of the woman, is because I didn’t want a traditional aspect to my music video, seeing as my music genre is very modern, and with the emotions he goes through, makes the audience sympathise with him.

OVERALL – HOW EFFECTIVE WAS IT IN ATTRACTING TARGET AUDIENCES WITH MY MAIN PRODUCT AND ANCILLARY TASKS

MUSIC VIDEO:Target audience that are specific to this video and its meaning, would have been in, or will be in a bad relationship which could come down to cheating, and this will be easier for them to relate to the artists.

WEBSITE:With my website, it promotes everything you need to promote, with Facebook, links to tours, and especially the ‘Our Fans’ page, where if you write in, you are able to get ‘in contact’ with the artist and could win a full day out, which is getting the audiences and fans involved, and with Facebook, getting the ‘Word of mouth’ out aswell, creating a wider target audience.

MAGAZINE ADVERT:The costume design on the magazine advert relates the whole way through the music video and the website, which keeps continuity and makes himself and his hoodie a ‘Brand’. Not only that, but target audiences can relate to the clothes, as they are not designer, but just smart/stylish regular clothes.
