Hymn: TiS 228

1. Crown him with many crowns,

the Lamb upon the throne;

hark! how the heavenly anthem drowns

all music but its own:

awake, my soul, and sing

of him who died for me,

and hail him as your chosen king

through all eternity.

2. Crown him the Son of God

before the worlds began:

and we who tread where he has trod

crown him the Son of Man,

who every grief has known

that wrings the human breast,

and takes and bears them for his own,

that all in him may rest.

3. Crown him the Lord of love;

behold his hands and side,

those wounds yet visible above

in beauty glorified:

no angel there on high

can fully bear that sight,

but downwards bends a burning eye

at mysteries so bright.

4. Crown him the Lord of life,

who triumphed o’er the grave,

and rose victorious in the strife

for those he came to save:

his glories now we sing

who died, and rose on high;

who died eternal life to bring,

and lives that death may die.

5. Crown him the Lord of peace,

whose power a sceptre sways

from pole to pole, that wars may cease,

absorbed in prayer and praise:

his reign shall know no end,

and round his piercèd feet

fair flowers of paradise extend

their fragrance ever sweet.

6. Crown him the Lord of years,

the Potentate of time,

Creator of the rolling spheres,

majestic and sublime:

all hail, Redeemer, hail!

for you have died for me;

your praise shall never, never fail

throughout eternity.

Matthew Bridges 1800–94 and

Godfrey Thring 1823–1903 alt.

Greeting: The Lord be with you.

AND ALSO WITH YOU. (see Ruth 2:4)

Sentence: Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power and wealth

and wisdom and might and honour and glory and blessing. Revelation 5.12

Prayer of Preparation:

As we gather as God's people let us pray together:

Almighty God,

to whom all hearts are open,

all desires known,

and from whom no secrets are hidden:

cleanse the thoughts of our hearts

by the inspiration

of your Holy Spirit,

that we may perfectly love you,

and worthily magnify your holy name,

through Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Summary of the Commandments:

‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one; you shall love the

Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your

mind, and with all your strength.’ Jesus said: ‘This is the great and first

commandment. And a second is like it: you shall love your neighbour as

yourself.’

The Confession

Let us confess our sins in penitence and faith, confident in God's

forgiveness.

Merciful God, our maker and our judge,

we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed,

and in what we have failed to do:

we have not loved you with our whole heart;

we have not loved our neighbours as ourselves;

we repent, and are sorry for all our sins.

Father, forgive us.

Strengthen us to love and obey you

in newness of life;

through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Absolution {Celebrant}

Almighty God, who has promised forgiveness to all who turn to him

in faith: pardon you and set you free from all your sins, strengthen

you in all goodness and keep you in eternal life, through Jesus Christ

our Lord. Amen.

Gloria – Ushaw Setting (Alan Rees)

CHOIR: Glory, Glory to God, Glory to God in the highest,

ALL:

and peace to God’s people on earth.

Lord God, heavenly King, almighty God and Father,

we worship you, we give you thanks, we praise you for your glory.

Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father, Lord God, Lamb of God,

you take away the sin of the world: have mercy on us;

you are seated at the right hand of the Father: receive our prayer.

For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord,

you alone are the Most High

Jesus Christ,

with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father.

Prayer of the Day

Everlasting God, whose will is to restore all things in your well-beloved Son,

our Lord and King: grant that the people of earth, now divided and enslaved

by sin, may be freed and brought together under his gentle and loving rule;

who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.

Amen.

THE MINISTRY OF THE WORD

Readings from 'New Revised Standard Version' (NRSV)

First Reading: DANIEL 7.9-10, 13-14 9As I watched, thrones were set in place, and an Ancient One took his

throne; his clothing was white as snow, and the hair of his head like pure

wool; his throne was fiery flames, and its wheels were burning fire. 10

A

stream of fire issued and flowed out from his presence. A thousand

thousand served him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood

attending him. The court sat in judgement, and the books were

opened. 13

As I watched in the night visions, I saw one like a human being

coming with the clouds of heaven. And he came to the Ancient One and

was presented before him. 14

To him was given dominion and glory and

kingship, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve him. His

dominion is an everlasting dominion that shall not pass away, and his

kingship is one that shall never be destroyed.

Response: Hear the word of the Lord,

THANKS BE TO GOD

Psalm: Psalm 93

1 The Lord is king, and has put on robes of glory:

the Lord has put on his glory, he has girded himself with strength. 2 He has made the world so firm:

that it cannot be moved. 3 Your throne is established from of old:

you are from everlasting. 4 The floods have lifted up, O Lord, the floods have lifted up their voice:

the floods lift up their pounding. 5 But mightier than the sound of many waters, than the mighty waters or the

breakers of the sea:

the Lord on high is mighty. 6 Your decrees are very sure:

and holiness, O Lord, adorns your house for ever.

Second Reading: REVELATION 1.4B-8 4John to the seven churches that are in Asia: Grace to you and peace from

him who is and who was and who is to come, and from the seven spirits

who are before his throne, 5and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the

firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth. To him who

loves us and freed us from our sins by his blood, 6and made us to be a

kingdom, priests serving his God and Father, to him be glory and dominion

for ever and ever. Amen. 7Look! He is coming with the clouds; every eye

will see him, even those who pierced him; and on his account all the tribes

of the earth will wail. So it is to be. Amen. 8‘I am the Alpha and the Omega’,

says the Lord God, who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.

Response: Hear the word of the Lord,

THANKS BE TO GOD

Gradual Hymn: TiS 105

1. Let all the world in every corner sing:

My God and King!

The heav’ns are not too high,

his praise may thither fly;

the earth is not too low,

his praises there may grow.

Let all the world in every corner sing:

My God and King!

2. Let all the world in every corner sing:

My God and King!

The church with psalms must shout,

no door can keep them out;

but, above all, the heart

must bear the longest part.

Let all the world in every corner sing:

My God and King!

We stand for the reading of the Holy Gospel as a sign of respect as we greet

our Lord who is present in His Holy Word.

The Lord be with you

AND ALSO WITH YOU

The gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, according to Saint John chapter 18 beginning

at the 33rd

verse.

GLORY TO YOU, LORD JESUS CHRIST.

33

Then Pilate entered the headquarters again, summoned Jesus, and asked

him, ‘Are you the King of the Jews?’ 34

Jesus answered, ‘Do you ask this on

your own, or did others tell you about me?’ 35

Pilate replied, ‘I am not a Jew,

am I? Your own nation and the chief priests have handed you over to me.

What have you done?’ 36

Jesus answered, ‘My kingdom is not from this

world. If my kingdom were from this world, my followers would be fighting

to keep me from being handed over to the Jews. But as it is, my kingdom is

not from here.’ 37

Pilate asked him, ‘So you are a king?’ Jesus answered,

‘You say that I am a king. For this I was born, and for this I came into the

world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to

my voice.’

Gospel Response: This is the gospel of the Lord,

PRAISE TO YOU, LORD JESUS CHRIST.

THE BAPTISM

When Jesus had risen from the dead, he commanded his followers to

go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the

Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. We have come together today

in obedience to that command. In baptism, we are joined to Christ, and

made members of his Church.

Baptism of children is a celebration of new life and the promise of

eternal life, and an acknowledgement of their need for care and protection.

While we focus on the grace of God given to those who are baptized,

we also acknowledge that spiritual growth depends on parents and

godparents, and the wider circle of family and friends, who are the

examples and influence that mould a child’s character. In this service of

baptism we bring Caitlyn into God’s presence that she may be enfolded in

the grace of the Holy Spirit.

Parents and Godparents who bring children for baptism must express

their own trust and commitment to the promises of God, and their intention

to bring up the children in the faith and practice of the Church.

The Baptism party gather around the font.

The parents and godparents are asked the questions:

Q/ Before God and this congregation, you must affirm your belief in God

and so I ask: Do you Believe in God; Father, Son and Holy Spirit?

A/ I do.

Q/ Will you accept the responsibilities placed upon you in bringing Caitlyn

for baptism?

A/ I will.

Q/ By your prayers and example, by your friendship and love, will you

encourage her in the life and faith of the Christian community?

A/ I will.

Q/ As your life will be an example to Caitlyn, will you turn away from evil

thoughts, words and actions?

A/ I will.

Q/ Will you affirm Christian values, especially those of honesty, compassion

and mercy? A/ I will.

Page 12: HTK Pew Sheet, 10am, November 25, 2012

Priest to the congregation: You have heard our brothers and sisters respond

to Christ. Will you support them in this calling?

ALL: WE WILL.

Priest: Almighty God lead you in the light of Christ to his everlasting

kingdom. AMEN.

Prayers and Blessing of the water

[Let us pray:] Grant, merciful God, that Caityln may be so united with

Christ in baptism that your new nature may be raised up in her where the

fruit of your Spirit may grow and flourish. Give to family and friends the

desire to share what you have revealed in your Holy Gospel.

We give you thanks that at the beginning of creation your Holy Spirit

moved upon the waters to bring forth light and life. With water you cleanse

and replenish the earth; and through the waters of the Red Sea you led your

people by Moses out of slavery into freedom, and brought them through

the river Jordan into the land of promise. We give you thanks for your Son,

Jesus Christ: for his baptism by John, for his anointing in the Holy Spirit, and

that through the deep waters of death Jesus delivered us from our sins and

was raised to new life in triumph. We give you thanks for the grace of the

Holy Spirit who leads us to your kingdom.

And now we give you thanks that you have called Caityln Grace Bowen

to new birth in your Church through the waters of baptism.

+ Pour out your Holy Spirit in blessing and sanctify this water so

that all who are baptized may be made one with Christ in his death and

resurrection, through Jesus Christ our Lord, AMEN.

An affirmation of faith

Priest: I ask the congregation to join with the parents and godparents in

affirming the faith of the church.

Do you believe in God the Father?

A/: I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

Do you believe in God the Son?

A/: I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived

by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate,

was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the

third day he rose from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and is seated at

the right hand of the Father; from there he will come to judge the living

and the dead.

Do you believe in God the Holy Spirit?

A/: I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of

Saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life

everlasting. AMEN.

The baptism

Priest: Caitlyn Grace, I baptize you in the name of the Father, the Son, and

the Holy Spirit, AMEN.

I sign you with the sign of the cross to show that you are marked as Christ’s

own forever.

(Oil that has been blessed by a bishop is used in anointing to symbolize being

chosen in God, as were the priests and prophets of the Old Testament, and

the New Testament understanding that we are all anointed in the Spirit

through belief in Christ.)

Page 14: HTK Pew Sheet, 10am, November 25, 2012

14

Live as a disciple of Christ; fight the good fight, finish the race,

keep the faith.

ALL: Confess Christ crucified, proclaim his resurrection, look for his coming

in glory.

Priest: God has called you out of darkness into his marvellous light.

ALL: Shine as a light in the world to the glory of God the Father.

Priest: God has called you into his church.

ALL: We therefore receive and welcome you as a member with us of the

body of Christ, as a child of the one heavenly Father, and as an inheritor of

the kingdom of God.

Prayers for the child, parents and godparents

Merciful God, in your infinite love you have made a new covenant

with us in Jesus Christ, promising to be our God and the God of our children.

Enable all who are baptised in your name to live as your faithful people.

Fulfil your promises for Caityln, we pray, and grant that she may

grow in your faith and service.

We pray for Andrew and Liz, that in your Spirit of wisdom, their

family may grow in your love, and their home share in the joy of your

eternal kingdom.

And we pray for Caityln’s godparents, Rachel and Edward; enable

them to share with their goddaughter what you have revealed to us of your

love in your holy gospel. We ask this in the name of our Saviour Jesus Christ,

AMEN.

THE GREETING OF PEACE (all stand)

{Celebrant} We are the body of Christ.

His Spirit is with us.

The peace of the Lord be always with you.

And also with you.

Offertory Hymn: TiS 225

1. My heart and voice I raise

to spread Messiah’s praise,

Messiah’s praise let all repeat:

the universal Lord

by whose almighty word

creation rose in form complete.

2. A servant’s form he wore,

and in his body bore

our dreadful curse on Calvary:

he like a victim stood

and poured his sacred blood

to set the guilty captives free.

3. But soon the Victor rose

triumphant o’er his foes

and led the vanquished host in chains:

he threw their empire down,

his foes compelled to own

o’er all the great Messiah reigns.

4. With mercy’s mildest grace

he governs all our race

in wisdom, righteousness and love:

who to Messiah fly

shall find redemption nigh,

and all his great salvation prove.

5. Hail, Saviour, Prince of Peace!

Your kingdom shall increase

till all the world your glory see,

and righteousness abound

as the great deep profound,

and fill the earth with purity.

Priest: in songs of never ending praise:

Our Father in heaven,

hallowed be your name,

your kingdom come,

your will be done,

on earth as in heaven.

Give us today our daily bread.

Forgive us our sins

as we forgive those who sin against us.

Final Hymn: TiS 315

1. Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord;

he is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored;

he has loosed the fateful lightning of his terrible swift sword:

his truth is marching on.

Glory, glory, hallelujah, glory, glory, hallelujah,

glory, glory, hallelujah, his truth is marching on.

2. He has sounded forth the trumpet that shall never call retreat;

he is sifting out the hearts of men before his judgment seat:

O be swift, my soul, to answer him; be jubilant, my feet!

Our God is marching on.

Glory, glory, hallelujah, glory, glory, hallelujah,

glory, glory, hallelujah, our God is marching on.

3. In the beauty of the lilies Christ was born across the sea,

with a glory in his bosom which transfigures you and me:

as he died to make men holy, let us live to make men free,

while God is marching on.

Glory, glory, hallelujah, glory, glory, hallelujah,

glory, glory, hallelujah, while God is marching on.

4. He is coming like the glory of the morning on the wave;

he is wisdom to the mighty; he is succour to the brave:

so the world shall be his foot-stool, and the soul of time his slave:

our God is marching on.

Glory, glory, hallelujah, glory, glory, hallelujah,

glory, glory, hallelujah, our God is marching on.
