    critical role in facilitating rural revitalization. This panel will highlight the mandates and major activities of

    successful rural development corporations.

    Panel # 2 – The Role of First Nations Investment Organizations in Revitalizing Rural Economies - This

    session will explore the success that two First Nations from other parts of Canada have had in revitalizing the

    local economies in their territories.

    Panel # 3 – Mobilizing Local Capital for Rural Economic Revitalization - This session will examine how

    Nova Scotia and Alberta have developed and use highly successful models to raise and invest local funds for

    rural economic revitalization.

    Panel # 4 – Rural Lands – Rural Economic Development - This session will examine how two organizations

    have been successful in creating more rural business development and economic activity and value from their

    agriculture sectors.

    Panel # 5 – Major Projects & Rural Communities – Creating Mutual Benefits - Presenters on this panel will

    share their experiences and opinions on how rural communities can derive greater economic and social benefit

    from major resource projects occurring near their communities.

    Panel # 6 – Providing an Effective Rural Voice - Often rural communities feel that their issues are not well

    understood by those who make policy decisions which affect them. Yet experience in other jurisdictions has

    clearly demonstrated the need for rural policies and programs that facilitate rural economic revitalization. The

    presenters in this session will discuss their experiences in constructively advocating for rural communities.

    Thursday Workshops On Thursday two concurrent workshops will be held to allow conference presenters

    and workshop attendees engage in more detailed discussions and questions and answers regarding the workshop

    topics. The workshops will start with short presentations from the conference presenters/resource people and

    then turn to a facilitated roundtable discussion of opportunities in the BC context:

    1.) Building Successful First Nations Investment Organizations

    Recommendation No. 1 Draft Audited Statements Year Ended December 31, 2014

    The Corporate and Administrative Services Committee recommended that the Treasurer’s report titled “SCRD Draft Audited Statements – Year Ended December 31, 2014” be received;

    AND THAT the reports titled “Sunshine Coast Regional District and Sunshine Coast Regional Hospital District Audit Results and Communications to the Members of the Board for the fiscal year ended December 31, 2014” and “Independent Auditor’s Report” and the Draft Audited Financial Statements be received;

    AND THAT the draft audited statements for year ended December 31, 2014 be approved as presented;

    AND FURTHER THAT this recommendation be forwarded to the April 23, 2015 Regular Board meeting for adoption.

    Recommendation No. 13 Rural Areas Grant-in-Aid: Transportation Choices

    The Corporate and Administrative Services Committee recommended that the Administrative Assistant, Corporate Service’s report regarding “Transportation Choices (TraC) – Bike to Work Week Grant-in-Aid Request” be received;

    AND THAT TraC be granted $2,400, apportioned as follows, from Rural Areas Grant-in-Aid:

    • Electoral Area B (01-2-122-212) $750• Electoral Area D (01-2-127-212) $750• Electoral Area E (01-2-128-212) $500• Electoral Area F (01-2-129-212) $400;

    AND THAT staff be directed to issue the Rural Areas Grant-in-Aid payment to TraC in May 2015;

    AND FURTHER THAT this recommendation be forwarded to the April 23, 2015 Board Meeting for adoption.

    Recommendation No. 15 Letter of Support – Sunshine Coast Museum and Archives

    The Corporate and Administrative Services Committee recommended that the correspondence from the Sunshine Coast Museum and Archives regarding letter of support request for application to Employment and Social Development Canada’s “Enabling Accessibility in the Communities” grant be received;

    AND THAT a letter be provided to Sunshine Coast Museum and Archives in support of their Enabling Accessibility in Communities grant application;

    AND FURTHER THAT this recommendation be forwarded to the April 23, 2015 Regular Board Meeting for adoption.

    Recommendation No. 16 Letter of Support – Gibsons Public Market

    The Corporate and Administrative Services Committee recommended that the correspondence from the Town of Gibsons regarding letter of support request for the Gibsons Public Market application for financial support under the Economic Infrastructure Program be received;

    AND THAT a letter be provided to Island Coastal Economic Trust (ICET) in support of the Gibsons Public Market’s application for financial assistance under the Economic Infrastructure Program;

    AND FURTHER THAT this recommendation be forwarded to the April 23, 2015 Regular Board Meeting for adoption.

    Recommendation No. 17 Rural Areas Grant-in-Aid: Gibsons Elementary School Parent Advisory Council

    The Corporate and Administrative Services Committee recommended that a letter be sent to Gibsons Elementary School Parent Advisory Council advising that they have been granted $500 from 2015 Rural Areas Grant-in-Aid;

    AND THAT this recommendation be forwarded to the April 23, 2015 Board Meeting for adoption.
