Program12th Annual Roar & Snore

Each year, hundreds of girls look forward tothe annual Roar n Snore weekend that wehold at the Rio Grande Zoo. This year,attendees had more of an adventure thanplanned for... around midnight, the sprinklerswent off, soaking our Girl Scouts. While somewere soaked and chose to head home, mostof our Girl Scouts turned lemons intolemonade. Our Girl Scouts chose to help oneanother, calming each other down, sharingequipment, sharing tents. Here are somecomments from some of our volunteers whowere at the event:

·     "Life is a great adventure, it's all in how youlook at it. Tonight I am at a sleepover at the RioGrande Zoo with 900 girl scouts. At 12:30 AM thesprinklers came on full blast. Girls werescreaming and soaked. I was so proud of mygirls. They rallied together to ensure that othertroops were taken care of. Sharing tents. Sharing sleeping bags. Taking care of everyone.Really remarkable girls."

"I'm proud of our troop.  There's a reason the saying is, "such a trooper." Girl Scouts facewhatever life throws at us while singing songs and helping one another.  Thank you forallowing me to have these experiences with your daughters, they are teaching me so muchevery time I'm with them."

" These girls showed me what it truly means to "be a sister to every Girl Scout". They werethe personification of Girl Scout values. We are a young troop and I have much to learn as aleader,  but I look forward to the day that our troop, your girls,  are consoling and comforting adisappointed group of Brownies when things just didn't go the way expected.  They will tellthis story,  they will have this memory and know that all turned out just fine in the end.  Theywill encourage others not to despair all the while understanding the heartbreak."

The BioPark staff have apologized and they have accepted responsibility for thisinconvenience. They are in constant communication with GSNMT staff to makesure to make this up to our Girl Scouts.  If your troop was one of the troops wholeft the event in the middle of the night, please contact Cecilia [email protected] by Friday, June 17, 2016.

We, as GSNMT staff, want to share how extremely proud we are of our GirlScouts. We keep hearing stories of girls taking the lead, looking out for each other,and making the most of what could have been a bad situation. So much in life thathappens is unplanned, but it is what we make of it, and we are so proud of ourgirls and volunteers who survived and thrived at Roar n Snore!
