INSTRUCTIONAL CONTINUITY eLEARNING PLAN

Introduction• Why are we developing for an Instructional Continuity

eLearning Plan?We are in a state-wide emergency that requires our school facilities to be closed for students at least through April 15th, 2020. The continuation of high quality teaching and learning despite circumstances and having an academic plan to sustain curriculum and instruction for our PreK-12 and Manatee Technical College students and support our teachers in providing online instruction is a critical component of a school district’s emergency management system.

Three Major Components:• Access to Mobile Devices: Steps taken by our IT

department to ensure students have access to mobile devices.

• Access to Internet: Schools will determine how many of our students do not have access to the internet at their home, and what can be done to provide free or reduced cost internet service to students. More information at manateeschools.net/IT

• Standards-Based Content Delivery: Steps our teachers and staff take to make sure standards-based instructional material is available to our students and their education is continued.

Page 8: Instructional Continuity eLearning Plan

ACCESS TO MOBILE DEVICESProcess begins on March 23rd, 2020

• Each school and classroom teacher is responsible for determining need for student access to technology devices. The school principal will facilitate the loaning process.

• Each student must be logged in to the Schoology classroom using a laptop, tablet or smartphones.

• For any student who does not have access to a mobile device, the district has limited amount of mobile devices available to loan students.

• IT Department has an eLearning Device Loaner Agreement for Parents to borrow a device for their child.

• IT Department will coordinate transfers of devices between schools where needed.

Page 9: Instructional Continuity eLearning Plan

ACCESS TO INTERNET

• IT is investigating partnerships with service providers to equip free or reduced internet access to students.

• IT is purchasing 400 additional hotspots in case student locations are not covered by free services.

• Spectrum/Charter Communications is offering our families and staff free access to Spectrum Broadband and WIFI for 60 days. Parents can contact 844-525-1574 to obtain free internet access.

• Detailed information on accessing Remote Learning can be accessed at manateeschools.net/IT
