Congratulations We celebrate the following children who received the

sacrament of First Reconciliation: Catholic Schools Week is a special time to celebrate the gift of Catholic schools. Catholic Schools are more than just places for children to learn; they are places for children to grow in their faith and commitment to service. No other schools offer the unique combination of challenging academics combined with Catholic values. Teaching the whole child is the goal of St. Susanna School, and the whole child includes one’s spirituality. Being consistently exposed to adults and classmates who share a core set of values help ingrain those values in children. Ser-vice is an ongoing process that is taught as a way of thinking and living, not reserved for isolated situations. The result is the formation of people who are good citizens and positive individu-als who lead by example. St. Susanna School implemented “The Leader in Me” because it fits easily with our Catholic val-ues and stresses positive leadership traits in all children. Lead-ership isn’t just being a “boss”; leadership is as simple as doing the right thing simply because it’s the right thing to do, regard-less of what others are doing. It’s that self-discipline that Catho-lic schools strive to enhance in every student. Enrollment is now open for the 2018-19 school year. Please call Mrs. Michele Tillery, our principal, at 317-839-3713, x 138 to schedule a tour today! Come see how St. Susanna School can bring out the leader in YOUR child!

Find out about these stages and how you can help your child navigate through them. *Deanna Nibarger is the Social and Emotional Behavior Coach in MSD Washington Township. She attended Indiana University for undergrad and earned a degree in Elementary Education and Special Education. Girl Scouts offers the best leadership development

experience for girls in the world. Girl Scouts unleashes the GIRL (go-getter, innovator, risk taker, leader) in every girl-preparing her for a lifetime of leadership. Girl Scouts helps girls thrive in 5 key ways as they: Develop a strong sense of self, seek challenges and learn from set-backs, display positive values, form and maintain healthy relationships, and identify and solve problems in the community. These experiences range from regular troop meetings, to camping and hiking, participating in fun activities to learn more about careers and the community, doing community service projects, earning higher level awards through completion of involved and long standing service projects (like the Buddy Bench on the playground), and running their own business through cookie sales and booths. All the while having fun and developing long lasting friendships and relation-ships. If you are interested in learning more about Girl Scouts please contact Angela Dick at [email protected] or Becky Wildeman at [email protected].

UPDATE ON 45TH ANNUAL MARCH FOR LIFE IN WASHINGTON, DC The 45th March for Life, held on Friday, January 19, 2018, in Washington DC was truly a celebration of life. At 1:30 pm that beautiful, unusually warm (55 degrees) day, tens of thousands of people – men, women, teens, children, and babies – marched up Constitution Avenue with signs, songs, prayers, and chants proclaiming the sanctity of life. Earlier that day, Vice President Mike Pence and President Donald Trump spoke via live stream to the crowd about the great strides in pro-life legislation over the past year. The Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act was passed by the House of Representatives on Oct. 3, 2017 and is awaiting review in the Senate. President Trump urged the Senate to pass the bill and he will sign it. Pres. Trump also announced that he signed an executive order to protect religious liberty. On January 18, 2018, a new Conscience and Reli-gious Freedom Division has been created in the Dept. of Health & Human Services as a significant step to implement President Trump’s vision to protect the American tradition of religious liberty and live up to our constitutional obligations. The conscience rights and religious freedoms of doctors, nurses, and other medical professionals will be the focus of this Division. Finally, Pres. Trump announced that he has reversed a 2016 policy letter that restricted efforts by the states to direct Medicaid funding away from abortion facilities that violate the law. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services notified directors that the “provider (i.e., abortion facilities) requirement standards be reasonable” which was CMS’s original intent prior to the 2016 policy change. Therefore, if a state has actionable violations against an abortion facility, it can present them to CMS for review without fear of substantial pushback from the agency.

INDIANA MARCH FOR LIFE, JANUARY 22, 2018 At least ten St. Susanna parishioners braved a rainy and windy day in downtown Indianapolis to attend the Indiana March for Life on Monday, January 22nd, the 45th Anniversary of Roe v Wade decision. Following a packed Mass at St. John the Evan-gelist Church that was presided by Archbishop Thompson of the Archdiocese of Indianapolis and Bishop Doherty, Diocese of Lafayette, the marchers walked along Georgia St. and ended at the south steps of the State Capitol. Archbishop Thompson opened the program with a prayer and spoke to the crowd. Other speakers were Sue Swayze, Lobbyist for Right to Life of Indianapolis; Anna Allgaier, President of Students for Life of America; and speakers from Silent No More.
